Hey Larry U broke down that rocker switch to its simplest terms for wiring my project! I couldn't get a similar "on off on momentary" to switch my light bar pattern mode to save my life.. til I seen ur video. Excellent explanation showing led side connections vs switching control side of switch! My face plate was also on backwards, easily rectified reversing the top n bottom poles like u said! Thanx for ur post!! :)
all you had to do is switch the green and black wires to change the up and down. the colors dont matter you're just completing a circuit. the red wire is + ignition and can be hooked up to terminal 1, 3, and 5. Thanks for the video. it helped me.
@@larryising5156 to have the switch lit up when the vehicle is on, you run an ignition power (so it's not on 24/7) to terminal 1, then connect 3 & 5 to terminal 1??? Wish I would have read the comments before installing. You're the only video mentions having the light on all the time. I wish it would have been in the video. Thanks for the info.

Great video. But your switch was not backwards. On all DTDP switches, whichever side you push on the rocker, the opposite side pole, circuit is completed. Think of it like a T. If the horizontal line is the rocker, and from above, you push on the left side of the T. The vertical stem will pivot to the right, and vice versa.
I cannot stand the in out unlighted switch that comes with some of the winches. I got the same switch you have so I'm going to try your wiring and see if it works. I hope it does. And thank you for the explanation.

Great video. Thanks. I would like to wire the switch so the light on the switch always stays on. I am using the switch in my Tacoma truck to power a winch I am going to mount in the bed to load deer into the bed (at 72 it's getting a little tough wrestling a deer into the bed LOL). I plan to substitute the switch that came with the winch for one of these switches. I already installed a switch in the bed of the truck to control an LED light mounted on the cap over the bed. That switch light stays on all of the time with now worries about draining the battery since it draws so little power from the battery. I am going to mount the switch next to the current light switch and don't want to hit the winch switch by accident. Thanks for any help.
Hey Larry I just watched your video and it was the best especially having the switch lit when key is on doesn’t make sense to only be on if you push it. So when reading the comments J Cunningham spoke of connecting 1,3,5 to ignition hot did you do that as well after the video or did you leave it the way you showed you did it in the video? In your video it looked like you had two power wires one to the top of led side then jumped to the bottom led side and a red wire to middle switch side. Where are those two hot wires coming from? I’m under the impression there should be two direction wires for the winch and only one positive and one negative I’m at a loss understanding the the two power wires please help.
I want the winch to only be able to run when the key is on. If I unplug the red wire from the toggle switch and run a wire from the key hot to the plug that you have the red wire on will that work?
So, I have 2 switches. One is a winch power switch, and the other is the in/out rocker like in the video. Any idea on how I'd best wire it so the in/out lights don't come on until I turn winch power on?
The switch actuator cover comes off with a careful bit of outward pressure at the center of the switch. Then you could have of just flipped the cover and not change any of your output wire. Hope that helps everyone for next time.
My winch has a 5 pin socket. I can't access my solinoid so I play on plugging into the socket with winch extension cable and cutting off the other end so I can splice my leads. However, what are the 5 cables for?? I figure one would be my hot 12.8v, the other two would be winch in and out, and last would be ground.... But, what would be the 5th??
If you wire all three jumped to a key hot will the center only light up unless you push either direction ? Speaking on terms of the three that run the switch lighting
there is no center led just the upper and lower but yes if you connect 1,3,and 5 to + ignition the (red wire from your winch on terminal 5) the 2 will stay lit all the time.
