I most loved the tips #6 because I usually tend to walk aimlessly when presently, and this is a distraction itself. I feel like I am lost sometimes, especially when I am not inspired. lol.

I just can't seem to keep my feet planted. I pace around anxiously and I wish I didn't. Even when I rehearse on my own, I have too much nervous energy to stand still.
@alexanderlyon
@alexanderlyon 7 месяцев назад
My advice would be to redirect your nervous energy into using more hand gestures and into more volume in your voice.
@weetabixharry
@weetabixharry 7 месяцев назад
@@alexanderlyon Good tip! I noticed that increasing my volume makes me feel more settled (which I thought was counterintuitive, but now makes perfect sense). I'll try out the hand gestures too. Thanks!
@alexanderlyon

Yes, from the waist down, keep yourself planted. From the waist up, you can be animated.

Part of my responsibility is teaching Gen Ed classes, so a lot of my students have no experience at all with public speaking. I also use your video on how to disagree respectfully. My students like that one a lot.@@alexanderlyon

Alexander! This is an awesome video man - been eagerly awaiting your uploads for a while. I’m a storytelling coach (far less experienced than you but still super passionate about spoken communication). I’d love to host you on my podcast if you’re interested? I think it would provide both our audience some great value!

Could you analyze some of the worst speakers who do everything wrong and point them out?
@alexanderlyon
@alexanderlyon 7 месяцев назад
I could do that but I don't. My approach is usually to show positive examples of good speakers. We need role models and concrete examples to inspire us.

Alex, first of all I wish this video gets you 2M views 😊 I would add another tip that I had to learn and I catch them with everyone I work with….. avoid filler words, the ums and ahhhhs 😂 SILENCE IS POWER, so pauses are great. I made a video about it and also on eye contact, yesssss, you’re right it’s awkward first, but it helps connect with the audience!
@alexanderlyon
@alexanderlyon 7 месяцев назад
Yes, fillers are a big issue!
