The goal should always be honesty. A person who loves truth, spontaneity and creativity will discern that it is all fake despite of how well he came across the audience. It is just a comment. I am not against.

00:00 👁 Maintain strong eye contact (90% of the time) during presentations to convey confidence and credibility. Glance at notes briefly but focus on connecting with the audience. 01:56 😊 Incorporate smiles during presentations to appear relaxed and confident. Smiling enhances the perception of connection and warmth in your communication. 03:52 🕴 Stand with good posture, keeping feet shoulder-width apart, weight on the balls of your feet, and shoulders back. This "ready position" communicates confidence and stability. 04:50 👐 Use hand gestures to add emphasis to your speech. Keep hands in a comfortable "home base" position (loosely together at waist level) and make purposeful gestures to convey confidence. 06:17 ⏸ Pause after sentences and longer pauses after key ideas to regulate pace. Add a small nod during pauses, creating a confident and persuasive impact. Practicing these habits leads to confident public speaking.

Thanks, Alex, great tips! You're right, video is much different, and results in faster speech, with most people using the speed control to make it even faster and more efficient.

Thank you for this Alex. One question I have: In the 07 Steve Jobs iPhone presentation which you featured in a video as well, he did move back and forth. Can you clarify more about being "planted" vs. walking around like he did? You covered this, but maybe this might be good fodder for a separate video.
@alexanderlyon
@alexanderlyon 6 месяцев назад
It's a great question. My advice for beginning speakers is always the same: It's better to stand in one place for at least a 30 seconds to a minute at a time and then move with a purpose and then stand planted again. In most cases, beginning speakers are on small stages or often no stage at all and they're speaking in front of small groups. In contrast, Jobs was an extremely experienced speaker and was speaking on a massive stage to over 1000 people. AND, most important, Jobs was moving with a purpose and always stayed planted when making a key points. The "rules" for movement are really dependent on experience level, speech length, size of the stage, etc.

I tend to get excited in conversation and use my hands (and arms) a lot. I can only imagine how I'd be in public speaking. It would however depend on the situation 😊 (nods)

Gestures are great as long as they are small gestures like I showed in the video. You don't want to look like you are fighting bees. Ha!

I agree but it makes me angry because all you are saying is to look; confident, established,,etc. So remember that what you are saying can be used by abusers to have it all together right. They now will know what to do and not to do, to be liked and trusted by people while they are abusing people with theirs lies.
@JPBandrePK
@JPBandrePK 6 месяцев назад
Abusers? You mean scammers? There's plenty of paralinguinstic books and videos out there. How can you blame him? You make zero sense
@alexanderlyon
@alexanderlyon 6 месяцев назад
The same can be said for almost anything anybody teachers teach (e.g., writing skills, Math, money management, martial arts, etc.). Abusers have a moral problem. Thankfully, my channel attracts mostly good and honest people who just want to do a better job at work. The more equipped those good people are, the better off we'll all be.
