Great question about "what makes this point in time different." I think a lot of people get so focused on the world building that they forget to think about the here and the now of their world, which is where the stories come from.

It's the same for movies. Why should we care about the story being told right now? That question makes you think about the conflict and the conflict is what makes the players feel like heroes

I've been using this question to frame each of my main and secondary characters' arcs and motivations. Some of them are immortal; why is right now important to them? It's giving me lots of extra story beats, so thanks!

The screenwriter background of this channel is exactly what I've been looking for. I understand generic DnD advice but what I really needed was storytelling applied to a tabletop medium of consumption. So glad I found this channel.

Great points 👍 I particularly like the fourth point, having a past brings the world to life, otherwise it feels as if the world was just on standby, waiting for the players to come along.

I like this list, because everything on it can be the starting point for something the players can do. -Why this time? Something big just happened or is going to happena nd your characters can participate. -What role does religion play? You have a task for / against some big church or secret cult -What secrets exist. FInd them. Laying ground for your players to interact with your world.

To flesh out the questions on the dominant group; how do all the different dimensions of power intersect? Secular Ideology, Natural Resources, Craft Goods Infrastructure, Cultural/Ethnic Majority, Religious Ideology, Agricultural Production, Aristocratic Loyalty, Military Renown, etc…. I’ve found its often in the details of how these strengths are disseminated among (and bridge between) factions that can really help to give life to a world

One of my "pantheons" is made up of one true primordial god and a bunch of ascended, previously mortal gods. The old god is a trickster with eyes on their palms (they have five arms and hands) instead of on their face, a big cheshire grin, and chitonous, inky black skin. They weave fate and existence, and their garments, long billowing strips of fabric, are woven specifically from the choices of mortals that they didn't plan for until they happened. So free will is kind of complicated. Another highlight god is The Bird With The Stars In Its Bill. Yes, you have to say the full name.
