There is more to money than simple 1’s and 0’s. There is also the effect it has on our lives and psyche-both positively and negative. How we think about money matters. With that in mind, I thought it would be helpful to share the seven quotes about money that changed my view of it.

Interesting. Lately I have been feeling wealthy actually. I don't have a lot of money, I'm waaay far from being a millionaire. But I have my home, no debt and some savings. I might not have a tesla like my friends, but I hate driving. I might not have a high income like my friend, but I don't like working 16+ hours a day, I cannot afford to eat outside everyday, but I learned to cook delicious meals without those extra calories, I might not be able to pay for the fancy gym, but I like my small hole in the wall where I lift things up and put them down. Money is nice and I like it a lot, it brings me peace of mind. But by not desiring material possessions I get something much better than money... Time! I have time to learn to cook, to make my long looong walks, to exercise, travel, spend time with people I love, focus on my health, live with less stress. When I told my father how much I spend per month, he pitied me. I didn't get it, I feel very comfortable, I wouldn't even know in what I would spend more money. I have enough clothes, I don't enjoy alcohol that much, I like going to the local market to buy cheap and fresh produce, museums are mostly free or very cheap. Idk, this capitalist society kinda makes me feel like a failure, but I resist.

Mindset is SO important, but education about money management and prioritizing is also crucial. Children are not taught basic money principals by their parents any more, and the schools don't do it either. I was taught things like how to balance a checkbook and to set up a simple budget in my 6th/7th grade math curriculum, but nowadays young people graduate from highschool knowing nothing but that they want what they see on TV. Channels like this are so needed, because our society values the AMOUNT of money so much more than the ability to MANAGE the money one has. Thank you, Joshua, for helping to steer people in the right direction.

Yes and yes. Money does buy happiness because it buys freedom, security, protection, and comfort, peace. All of these examples below make me happier because they provide for me and my family: A home in a safe and quiet part of town A car that has modern seatbelt and crash protection features A few more dollars to buy earthquake insurance for my home An aid to help an elderly parent if/when they fall at home and need help A bowl of organic fruits bought at the farmers market A new pair of shoes when the old are worn out at the edge A lot of time not to have to work and spend time with family The luxury of being a stay at home parent The time one gets from being able to retire early Routine dental hygiene Travelling to places that we wander about So, money DOES buy happiness but it it is important to spend money on things that matter and know when is enough enough, and have a healthy, humanistic approach to money

Not all true...At the age of 21years old I decided I wanted to retire at 45 and live abroad. I calculated a figure that I would need to live on to be financially independent until my personal pension kicked in. I worked long hours, saved, invested, planned and achieved my goal at 44.5 years old. I have spent the last 12 years living my dream and still have enough to see me through till retirement. The problem is that most people don't know what they want, so they don't work towards it, so will never achieve it. And NO, I never had a higher education or a high paying job, I only worked on the shop floor in a factory. I was always careful with every penny that I worked for and made it work for me, and NO, I never felt that I missed out on anything while I was working towards my goal. And finally I always pay in cash...you cannot spend what you don't have.

I recently quit a toxic corporate job that I had been at for 12 years and where I made a lot of money. I was very surprised about the way I felt after leaving. Before leaving I thought all of the great things about my life were tied to that job or making a lot of money but what happened was all that was different about my life was the job that had been toxic for years was gone. Everything good about my life was still in my life. The life I had created for myself had nothing to do with my job or making a lot of money. I took a job that pays a lot less but gives me more intrinsic value and I'm very glad I made the switch for many reasons. This kind of switch may not work for everybody but I think it will work for most people and make people happier in the long run.
@erin79
@erin79 2 года назад
I''m on the verge of wanting to do this, leaving a high paid corporate job. It's not the love of money that keeps me there, but the general truth that I do need food, shelter, healthcare, etc. I never buy things, I only spend money on necessities, never wrack up credit card debt. But we do still need to earn a living. So it's not always some greedy love of money thing. A lot of us just want to make ends meet and save as best we can for retirement. Our current system just makes it really hard to do that, cus it's near impossible to find part time jobs that would allow more freedom but would also pay enough for cost of living and provide healthcare. The rat race is a trap, and it can be hard to escape. Still trying to figure it out at 42.
@cathyf6156

@@erin79 I'm a few years older than you and I used to think the same way as you until I escaped. I found that all of my needs are met no matter what job I do. As far as retirement goes, I came to the conclusion that no matter how much money I put into my 401K and my IRA it's not going to be enough for retirement so I'm finding a way to make money into my retirement by doing something I love instead. Good luck to you in your future endeavors!

I don't want to be rich. I just want to have enough that when one of our appliances decides to break down I don't have to stress about where the money will come from to fix or replace it or when the car decides it needs new brakes or tires or the furnace, of our 100yr old fixer upper, quits working in the middle of winter or the roof leaks after a heavy rain! We live on a very tight fixed income. No mortgage, cars are old and bought with cash. No credit cards. Grateful for a roof over our head and cars that take us from A to B. Excellent commentary on money. Our family has more than enough income to live comfortably, and for us, that is the goal. It is difficult to maintain a positive attitude toward money when our family and friends are focused on obtaining more, on renovating houses, on buying new houses and cars, and on travelling. We have learned over the years that a simple life in which we enjoy and use the possessions that we have brings us the most satisfaction. Thanks for another great video!

Morning Joshua and fellow devotees. What a great topic to cover during these turbulent times. I admit to having money wobbles (rather than worries). I work full time, am divorced and in my mid 50’s. I work in a school and love my job but the pay if not great. I have enough for my bills and a little left over - in the current financial climate the little left over is dwindling . I need to remember that I have enough money for my needs, I have a job I love and a good family - I am rich but not financially.

Remember that "the bills" are not a fixed price. You can change your lifestyle to better reflect your priorities. Downsize? Move in to care for the grandkids, or perhaps you have an elderly aunt who needs daily help. Cancel the internet, definitely cancel the cable. Get rid of the car even if possible.

I think if you can't really buy food by the middle of the month and you are not sure how to survive or rely on charity of others to survive ALL of your problems could be solved with money. Of course the "standards" change and millionairs don't feel wealthy. But they don't have to think about how to get their next meal or start crying because the price of toilet paper has gone up again. I think from the perspective of minimalism you are right. But there are lots of people out here who are coming from a very different perspective.

There are those who live minimally and frugally because they MUST and those who do so because they can. I haven't watched the whole video but it is true that there is a diminishing return on money. A $2 an hour raise when you make $14 an hour will make your life better and easier than a $3 an hour raise when you make $30 an hour. Maybe it doesn't solve all of your problems but it will ease most of them.

There was some research that stated that after a certain point increasing income did not equate to increasing happiness the figure was not that high about 33% more than the average full time salary I'm in uk average salary for full time work ( over 30 hours per week) ISA apout 28,000 or 34k $ or after 45k happiness doesn't really increase obviously in USA like in Europe and UK some places are much more expensive to live than others and it will go further in small towns than in London, Paris or New York but then average salary tends to be more in these places too. So I think more money does mean more happiness when you are struggling with getting food shelter and clothes and just a washing machine fault or a child losing their winter coat means hardship and debt then yes money would help but a new car instead of 3 year old car might make you happier for a few weeks but 6 months later it won't still be having that effect.

I would go a step further to say- many people actually don’t have enough money, far and away more people than you are implying- in other words in order to be more safe from medical debt, fear of not being able to pay one’s mortgage, to be able to pay off school debt, for many in the USA would require perhaps enormous sums of money. However, what I think you are missing is the social safety net factor. in the absence of a social safety net such as accesible health care, affordable housing, public transportation- people wouldn’t feel the burden on their Individual and families shoulders financially if our society gave back to us what we give to it in the form of taxes. Said a different way, the need to have large sums of money feels less dire when your society takes care of you. How could someone know how much money they need to protect themselves from disaster?. Many countries do this for their citizens the USA more and more scarcely does.

Josh, great video and one I get a lot out of as I am contemplating retirement. BTW, the art behind you, “Always be honest be kind” … can you tell me where you got this, I love it and would like one for me and my 28 year old son! Thanks!

Some of those quotes are by those who do not lack. It isn't about the money, it is about what can be bought and paid for. Housing, food, paying utilities. Enough to sleep comfortably at night. Those saying those quotes were never homeless.

One thing I've always said about money that helps me is that it's just paper. In the end of the day it's literal paper. It never had any value to begin with, but people put value on it so they can satisfy themself, we don't always give freely, we put a price on it. If the whole world was giving food and a place to live for everyone that needs it, our friends and family freely, it would be a better place in my opinion. If this paper never existed. This paper with a 5, 20, 100 imprinted on it and a president on the side. What's the true importance again?

I do know about what amount I need is enough there are two options 1 about 2 million because that's how an apartment costs here (and rents are expensive and all the time go up and there is no stability) and the rest of the money for living just work part time and live a simple life 2 in addition to the 2 million between 30 and 50 thousand For each year of life (the amount depends on how much I want to calculate each shekel in the supermarket and how much I feel like traveling) but it is the amounts approximately.

I have no need to be rich, I have had a job with a high income for over a decade and it cost me my psychological health. Over 10 years after leaving that job im still psychologically damaged. Dont sell your zoul for money its so nit worth it. Unfortunately all that money went to health professionals to help me start to recover. I have nothing left financially and assets wise. I do however have my soul back, I learnt a valuable lesson. Now I just want a peaceful stress free life. I dont even have enough money after all of that to buy some land to settle on and grow the quiet natural life I now desire.

5 Million Euros. 1 Million for my husband and me, 2 for or 2 children. So even if they will never be able to work they can probably (if inflation doesn't become too high) live a frugal life without ever being hungry until the end of their life.

I GUARANTEE you all that $2 million is the number for me to be totally happy. I am the one who wants to bless others. My ex-husband left me with his mortgage on my coop apartment...so, I pay maintenance (rent), mortgage and insurance. If I didn't have to pay mortgage on an apartment that I own, I could help so many people and be able to save. Joshua, please address that entities target single, Black, female head of households...and I don't have kids!

It is easy to say do not waste your life and chase after money when there is money easily, but he who has no money even for normal food or medical treatment certainly has no choice but to devote his time and all his strength and life to the devilish money because without money you are not considered human! Some people were already looking at me as I rummaged in the trap like I was a street dog! Some men offered me dubious offers for some money. Money is life and without money there is no life!

90 percent Americans financial stress. Inspite of it being the wealthiest country. . Too many people spend money to buy things they don't want or don't need just to impress people or out of fomo . You say if i had a little more i should be satisfied. But can't be cause it's addictive .

I can understand that. It's OK to say we don't need money but we do.when your old and you have had money brought your kids up gave them education holidays etc.gave them everything then people say you don't need money.Its so easy to say that when old. If people were starting off again they would want money because without money you end up on the streets.
