I just put up drop cloth curtains and totally love them. My suggestion is wash them and time or two first before hanging. I didn't bleach mine. I wanted the natural color that they are. They are great. If you are looking for perfection, these may not be your choice. I am looking for that country warm look and that's what they show.

Also depends on what look you're going for. If you want perfection then yes, this would probably be the wrong material to use, however,if you are after that not so "perfect" look then these make GREAT curtains! Very affordable as well. I have drop cloth curtains that I've made for my house and my daughter's house and we LOVE them. Especially for the farm style look.. perfect!

Cotton shrinks especially if washed in hot water and then put in a hot dryer. :) Cold water wash and hung to dry cotton doesn't shrink much.

I’m currently preparing to make drop cloth curtains. This video has definitely given me couple things to think of.

Thanks! I was planning on using drop cloths for a room divider so I would need the full width and length. I was going to try bleaching too! Saved me a lot of aggravation.

If the whitening is the only drawback for someone, they might be able to try laundry bluing to get bright white curtains. That being said, one is either going to love or hate the drop cloths for decor. Thank you for sharing your thoughts, as there are a few things I didn't think about. I think the drop cloths are great for a quick fix, to cover your windows quickly for privacy reasons. But maybe they aren't best for long time use? God bless!

The trick is to soak the drop cloths in a laundry detergent that has a white brightener it add some chemicals to it that makes it appear brighter and it works...

Huh, I haven't tried that, and I thought I'd tried everything!

Also quite frankly you can paint them white. Seriously you can use cheap craft paint, but I’d go for Blick. Add a fabric medium and voilá. Come to think of it, it would be even cheaper to use latex. However you choose to do it, bright white isn’t difficult to achieve, though personally I prefer pale ecru or cream. It’s easier on the eyes.

I plan to wash mine with bleach just to lighten them up a bit, as they match my walls almost exactly. I'm also cutting (not folding) them to the perfect height (7ft) for my windows, as well as lining them with some sheer white curtains I already have. Pinch pleating would look amazing, but I already have my fugly bronze clip rings.

I actually got a soft Grey by soaking them in latex paint diluted in water - they have held the color for 5 years and I wash them regularly

But then they cost more than $10 a panel. Really her complaints are that everything she wants doesn’t come as inexpensively or as easily as she would like. There are plenty of solutions to her complaints. But essentially she has different curtain goals than all the 9x12’ drop cloth fans.

#8- If you're going to use them outside, in addition to the previously mentioned reasons, if you live in a windy area you will be spending lots of time finding ways to keep them blowing in the air! I thought the drop cloths would make great outdoor curtains for better privacy, but Pinterest and RU-vid was wrong!

Make a bottom seam and put fishing line weights (sinkers) in. Keeps them from blowing around as much. Just be careful in hurricane type winds..lol... can be lethal.
@rtd1791
@rtd1791 Год назад
@@mandyrogers6645 I was going to say the same. It really depends on where you live. In SoCal we rarely have winds that will cause a problem. And frankly I either take down my curtains when a storm is coming or I tie them up.

I'm coffee staining mine because I have a dog and live out in the country... can't stand my curtains hitting the floor; and can sew sooo it's basically just a super cheap way to cover my 32 huge windows... next cheapest option is sketchy cheap duvet covers. Plus whatever is left over gets braided into rugs... cause those are stupid expensive too.

Yes to all you said. I’ve yet to see a no sew version I like. If you pinch pleat, hem and line them they look great but that defeats the purpose.

C’mon guys, not really! Drop cloths are designed to soak up liquid messes not to make upholstery or curtains. Everyone who uses drop cloths for home decor accepts its limitations. If you don’t want to, that’s cool, but then you have to accept that what you want may come at a higher price.
