I'm not slating digital, it's great, but vinyl is so satisfying. Sure, it comes with it's downsides, but that for me doesn't matter. I love touching and digging through records. Best thing ever, great video!

I learned to spin on vinyl in the 90s. I still have my SL-1200s. Today's digital DJs have much more power tools to make an awesome sounding mix.

I started out on Vinyl and then went onto CDJ's and I'm now using Digital. I think everyone should use vinyl decks and just listen the the massive difference in the sound quality. My biggest regret is my decision to sell my old 1210 decks back in 2007 because I hadn't used them for a while. I think one of the main differences I noticed when switching to digital is I missed flipping through my vinyl cases looking for a few tracks the would make the dance floor bounce and sticking them up ready to go. As for vinyl beat mixing it's more complex and organic in my opinion and you really needed to know your tracks well.

Use what you like we say but trying out vinyl if you get the chance is definitely recommended :)

I'm using a numark scratch mixer with 2 reloop rp 7000 mk2s running virtual dj. I feel completely spoiled it's so nice to play on. You're right about my progress. Started with ddj-400, then ns7ii, then my real 1's and 2's. It does seem a bit backwards huh?

#1 reason why you should learn to dj on vinyl... You can't FAKE it. No dj software, no buttons to push, you can't "burn" a copy of someone else mix on vinyl, the needle REALLY skips, and you can learn a lot about what level you're on. You don't have to stay on vinyl. But it can help the development of your skill level....

. What I did hear in this video was that one needs to learn organization. That is true in most aspects of our life. If we are organized, we can get more done. Put our tools back so we can find them next time. Replace them when they need to be. Practice, if we want to stay good. Practice focus and composure. . I am hearing this analogy of needing to go back to the old way to better understand the new way in a lot of things, and maybe it is because I am now 60+. Things change over time, and some things faster than others. . I have heard: - Doing math by hand makes one better at math. - Learning photography using film makes one better at taking great pictures. - Recording onto analog tape reels makes one a better mixing engineer. - Using turntables to spin vinyl makes one a better DJ . What makes these approaches great is the person teaching is experienced with these formats and is better able to convey their techniques and knowledge using them. It is always a transition period in a 'thing' or 'process' that I experience this. If that is what it takes for a teacher to teach, then it i s good tool. It isn't always the case that the old form is not needed. The day will most likely come when physical medium for delivering music (and video) is totally gone. I like having a CD of Blu-Ray of my collection, but the may soon come when that is no longer an option. There are always exception to rules, and rules for exceptions. Vinyl was almost totally gone, and it is regaining popularity. Photo film has followed the same path. . When I first hung up the DJ hat in 1999, I had never scratched a record. I really don't need to do that in my new incarnation playing for car shows, but I am learning to using Virtual DJ and a bunch of MP3s. I don't expect to be great, but I might be pretty good. No vinyl here... I have digitized the ones I want to play.

We got rid of all the plastic sleeves because they just get crunched and make it hard to put the record back when you are in a hurry. lol

We never see you on turntables in your videos.... credibility is everything sir. Your explaining reasons why spinning on wax is important, in front of a controller....?!? You got the vinyl, no turntables...?!? All I'm saying is.... If your going to do a review of a product or speak on a subject, have at least gear in your presence.

Oh we have both! I'll have to dust the turntables off for a demo soon! Thanks for the reminder, illamax :)
