Tappin, perfect name for a golfer.

Biggest short game improvement I've made is to pick one club (in my case, a 9i) and to use this to bump and run for anything that can't be putted or needs loft. As a higher handicapper I'm finding the consistency and familiarity of using this stock shot is a massive help. Need to look at the 'toe down wedge' for dodgy lies tho - I tend to find my share of those ! Great tips, clear instruction 👌

I use tip #3, the toe down one, for chipping out of greenside heavy rough. It's a real stroke saver.

At 62 I am just trying to learn to play golf somewhat competently. These types of videos are very helpful for me to hear how good golfers think about the game and scoring. I've never really given this much thought really, just tried to get closer to the hole than where I am.

My Top 7 for posting a score: 1) Fairway Finder 15 Yard Fade Drive - everyone should have this shot - seen Majors won with it 2) Goto Scoring Wedge Shot for Par 5s or recovery Par 4 shots - don't hit it to 50 if 70 is your number 3) A hybrid / 7or5 wood that is your long out of the semi-rough club for advancing the ball to green 4) The vertical shaft, toe down, Raymond Floyd chipping technique you showed for hitting out of bad lies (everyone needs this shot) 5) The low 120-170 yard carry and then 30-yard running hook and slice recovery shots 6) Goto 3wood / Long Hybrid drawing tee shot - for doglegs or fairways at angles 7) A 200-220 yard club that you absolutely know the shot shape of - this is the score killing range so might be the most important shot in the game

Excellent video with some great advice. You mentioned how important it is to practice these shots to familiarise yourself with how the ball reacts. I don’t devote nearly enough time to practice. The only way to improve is to practice these shots until you are familiar and confident with them. Keep these videos coming and I’ll always watch them.

Fabulous! As a Beginng Golfer, I couldn't ask for a better set of lessons from a really impressive Pro/ Teacher. The Presenter asked all the right questions, making lessons clearer! I liked the total Package, but was impressed by the tip about walking along the Green to look at the "lie of the line " before making the putt! Please can you explain what a "routine" would involve before making shots? Something simple, such as how Not to take up too much time and Not making it obvious. I am really sold on learning about this point as I consider it an essential part of the game.! Thank you for such an excellent Presentation, it was exactly what I needed, Focused, Functional, Friendly and Fabulous Fun.!! Thanks Folks!!!

Very useful shots demonstrated. Please include difficult shots such as the tree or other obstacles are between you and the ball; when you didn't bring out the club in your bag you need for the shot; playing under really wet (rainy) conditions; forgot to bring out the sunglasses and playing into the sun; playing into the wind, with the wind behind you, blowing left to right and right to left; how to guess he the wind will take your ball when it is 80 yards above ground. Thanks.

Easy to focus on the short game I suppose but a good second shot on a par 5 is key golf shot. Regardless of what club you hit can you hit the shape you need and is it long enough ?

Some good tips there, though I've always struggled with my putting until I started using Aimpoint. The benefits to me were the feet really do tell you how the green is between you and the hole, whether it's uphill, downhill, left to right or right to left and importantly how much. There are many greens where the breaks are subtle or have optical illusions and Aimpoint has really helped me identify these. Also I always aim to sink the putt, to me this dustbin lid thing is defeatist. If you aim to get the ball in the hole and it drops it boosts your confidence which is so important in putting. There's an old saying that 100% of short putts never go in so I'm always looking to get the ball to go gently into the hole from the high side because that feedback helps you with the rest of the putts in your round, and in particular are you gauging the speed and breaks properly or not. If you happen to just miss on the high side watching the ball after it's passed the hole gives you the line coming back too.

@ChristopherDowning
@ChristopherDowning 3 года назад
Ha! I'd say my first issue rather than shot is take out the clubs you are not 98% ok with. So for me that was a 5 and 4 iron, my 3 wood, and that 60 wedge. Then secondly find a putter that works for you not the expensive well known classics.

On the chip shot near the green, curious to see if leverage the bounce of the club instead of toe would make any difference? Also, was it because of the lie that Alex purposely chose to use the toe of the club?

Boys a stock shock is bloody difficult for a high handicapper, just to get the thing to go straight is a huge bonus for me. Which lately it is, very happy with it not looking to think of stock shots. From 18 to higher I just want it straight and not to duff it on the fairway. By the way it's the second video about stock shots. 🤔 But love the rest of it.
@jamesrussell2696
@jamesrussell2696 4 года назад
When you hit a bucket of balls is there a ball flight that you see more than any other? Do you hit a fade 3 in 5 or something like that? If so, that is the stock shot. If not, the hard truth is you need to take three or four lessons so you get a standard swing & stock shot.
@CKW10001
@CKW10001 4 года назад
@@jamesrussell2696 if not straight which is what they are going lately, it's generally slice left for a lefty to a fade, very rare right, but I can't rely on a stock shot as I don't have the consistency to be worried about one yet. We will see after the winter when I get lessons.

CKW10001 I’m in lockdown right now & haven’t been allowed to hit a practice ball since earlyJune. Cannot wait to get back to it & I know as a 12 marker, a lesson every few weeks is the key to things...I’m not good enough to solve my own deficiencies. Can’t wait!! Good luck!!!

@@jamesrussell2696 you will be back soon hopefully. That's good advice, I have recently joined a fantastic course and looking forward to get a handicap as I played 9 holes recently and shot my best score to date for 9 holes, but plenty to work on. Good Luck also, and hopefully you will be playing soon.

8th shot to master.... YOURE EGOO! man how the ego plays a big part of golf. I would ditch driver and use a 3 wood (far better consistency) practice short game (literally hardly see anyone do this) Punch shots are a great way to practice (and fun, because how many times are we in the trees!) Great video
@ChristopherDowning
@ChristopherDowning 3 года назад
Nope - use a 12 or 13.5 degree driver - the 3 wood is actually not an easy club to use - then 5 wood then a couple of hybrids.

@lawr66 3 года назад
I was told use the club that just gets on the green - so if you are right next to the green use a 6 iron, whereas if you are 10 yards from the green with 10 yards of green to the flag, and a bump and run still seems feasible, use a pitching wedge (with a bump and run technique, which is basically a short pitch with as little wristiness as possible, and the weight stays on the front foot through the shot).
