Even I am suffering from last two and a half year. And recently i got diagnosed as well. Undergoing therapy and counseling. But nothing's working. And above all this I still wanna believe that I am just sad. Maybe trying to escape the reality. But life literally seems like hell in this place

to put it into better perspective, sadness is fleeting, you only feel sad for a little while, depression is an angry voice in your head that feeds on your despair and anguish, and takes great glee in taking every last ounce of happiness away from you, it will morph into your loved ones, and your respected piers, it does not love, it does not care, it wants to hurt you, it makes you hurt yourself in horrible ways, it is a dark amorphous monster that is patient and always waiting for you to reach your lowest point, all of this is metaphor of course, for what someone with clinical depression feels on a daily basis, every waking hour of every waking day of every year of their life.

I would exclude 2&3 from depression mainly because people with high functioning depression can perform those fine but not necessarily get anything out of it
No. this is wrong. High functioning depression exists, where the person hides behind their depression. And depression isn’t always in the form of not showering - some people force themselves to shower, clean their rooms, etc, but they may spend longer in the shower because of tiredness/fatigue or take longer to clean their room because they have no motivation to do so. People with depression can still find joy in some things, but as soon as it’s all over, all the bad thoughts come back and everything goes dark again. And also in this scenario it could be they’re neglecting their feelings, shutting out all their feelings or simply faking their happiness infront of others to not get people concerned. Some people who are depressed find it easier to continue after getting a lot of their built up feelings off their chest. It doesn’t make it sadness. And just because someone with depression doesn’t lock themself away and still talks to people (even if it’s just because they have to) doesn’t mean they aren’t depressed anymore. Most of the time It means they’re trying to block out their feelings, neglecting themselves and making the depression even worse. Please respond because I’d appreciate it to know that you’ve seen this and you’re aware that what I’m saying is correct - a person suffering with diagnosed major depression and bpd

There are different levels of depression. Having depression doesn't mean you necessarily can't enjoy anything all the time, or you can't function at all...depending on how severe. It certainly can, or make it more difficult, but i feel this video makes it too either/or.
As someone who has depression and sadness completely mixed up among his people from his country, this and the video about how it's depression and NOT sadness really help clear things out.... can't thank you enough

Im diagnosed with severe depression but push myself to do the daily things. And if i am watching a show, i force myself to pay attention and ultimately laugh as a result, even though deep down i am hopeless, as i see everything as futile. This video is not an end-all-beat-all; while it may help those in layman's terms/the simple stuff to differenciate the two on simple terms, some of us have had depression for so long that we have learnt to cope and it may look normal, but we know that lying in bed will make those around us angry and make life worse for our depression. So, as much as i love these videos, its not always simple as it seems to differenciate between the two. I live in sadness but dip into depression, though i see everything as hopeless all the time--and i never snap up out of it like your video says that sad people do. What then?
THIS!!!! if im gonna be honest when i started watching this vid i felt like my depression wasn’t real. i still push myself to enjoy the little things, to make the best of the little hope i have left. i’ve learnt to cope and do the best to keep up with life. there are many ways people go through depression and this video sorta gives misinformation.
Im so glad you made this. I've been very upset lately and i didn't want to self diagnose myself. All the things i used to enjoy doing (Basketball, tennis, piano, guitar, ballet, swimming you name it) I've completely lost interest for, which happens with almost everything i have done except for art. This makes me feel so guilty as my only hobbies now are doing my art homework and scrolling through my phone all day. I can't find myself being good at almost nothing either, and my self esteem has been destroying me. I'm a much more private and introverted person than i used to be and i dislike more than a bit of socializing. As you mentioned, it feels pointless doing anything and even going to the bathroom. I'd hold it in for at least an hour just because i think it's not worth it I always cry for no reason, and I'm an extremely sensitive person. I'm not sure if i have depression or not, and I'm afraid to tell my parents what I've been going through. But thank you for informing others.
This is relatable with me, except for the crying cause I can't make myself cry lol. I feel like my mood is just nonstop neutral no up and downs. It's weird tbh. Hope you find the time to heal, sending good vibes.
If this lasts for months, you should definetly tell your parents or seek help, because you just cannot live like that. If it's recent, it's understandable, I have gone through something like that sometimes, it's just that for some reason in life we get tired of things and need something new or something to change, we are unhappy about something and we don't know what, and that makes us lose interest in everything else. It's ideal to figure out why we feel sad and then we can find the solution. There is always a solution and if you want to get out of that state is the first step on the right way. I find that going outside and do things help, staying at home in the same place for long or doing something rutinary everyday can cause temporal depression or makes you feel like nothing makes sense. Please don't take this as a diagnosis or professional advice, this is just me talking from experience. Most of the time we really need to get out of our comfort zone or find things we care about more than what we experience. For example, focusing on helping someone always makes me feel better and I forget about my sadness and then I start to think it wasn't so bad after all, I just needed to take distance from my things. I find that taking distance for a while of the things you no longer care about or the usual environment or routine helps. Think of it this way. A lion seems very threatening up close, but if you rise above and go over the clouds, everything down there is so small it doesn't seem like much at all, and looking at the whole universe in front of us that we have been ignoring because we focused on a few things, suddenly captures our attention and shows us there is so much out there to discover, new wonderful things that can spark our interest. But the first step is always the hardest. Once you start doing something or thinking or something else, doing something that gets you in motion, then it will become much easier. It works for artblock for example. When I go new places I get new ideas to draw, or watch other people on youtube. And sometimes you just have to give yourself some time and think it is okay to feel that way for a while and not stress about it or feel too guilty. If it goes on for more than a month or two, maybe you want to talk to someone about it that is close to you and can be of more use than random people on the internet like me. If you read this far, you are more motivated than you think. I hope you can find what works for you to best cheer you up and get you active again.

I feel like I walk the line between these two things. I regularly struggle to find the drive to get out of bed in the mornings, I seldom eat full meals, and the things I used to enjoy doing now feel like chores, but sometimes something flips over and I have one or two good days. I feel like if I do have actual depression, it's not severe enough for anyone to really be concerned about it, but I've been like this for years, on and off. I feel sorta lost and empty a lot of the time.

God bless you. Precious Memories-By Sonya Lakey Family Story Little did our family of six know that Friday evening, September 24th, 2021, would be the last night our family would be complete. We laughed together, played games, sang, and enjoyed listening as our 16-year-old son, Ethan, played the piano for us. I packed a lunch for Ethan for a church mountain hike he was going on the following day. My mother (who was visiting from out of state) and I woke early with Ethan on Saturday morning. He hugged me and smiled, never pulling away or rushing me. He got in the car, waved, said he'd see me later and he loved me. It was hard to watch my "new driver" heading out on his own that morning. As Ethan pulled out of the gate, I turned to my mother and said, "It's just so hard letting go." Little did I know how much "letting go" I was really doing. That was the last time I saw Ethan. He did not make it home that evening. That afternoon, a friend tried to contact my husband, leaving an urgent message to call him back. He tried several times to return the call to no avail. As we were preparing supper, an overwhelming feeling of deep concern for Ethan filled my heart. I quietly blinked back tears. I glanced out the window, half expecting to see a police officer pull up to the house, but no one arrived. However, within a few minutes, a patrol car DID pull into the driveway. In my heart, I feared the worst. My husband and I went out to meet the officer, who confirmed our fears. Hesitantly, he told us our son had fallen off of a bluff and had succumbed to his injuries. Our hearts were crushed; they still are. Yet, in all of our brokenness, deep, continual grief and loneliness, our family has such a blessed Hope and assurance that we will see our dear son and brother again. You see, when Ethan was a young boy, he was saved; he put his faith in Jesus alone to forgive his sins and to take him to Heaven when he died. He realized some very important truths from the Bible that he would want to share with you. His Story Everyone is a sinner. Sin is any violation of God’s Law. God is holy, just and righteous, and He cannot allow sin in His presence. Ethan realized that he - like all of us - had sinned; and his sin separated Him from God. “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; ” (Romans 3:23) “Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:” (Romans 5:12) He understood that, because of his sin, he deserved to spend eternity in Hell. “For the wages of sin is death;” (Romans 6:23a) [Wages: price] “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.” (Revelation 21:8) Ethan believed that Jesus, God’s Son, paid the price for all sin when He died on the cross - because His sinless sacrifice was the only thing that could satisfy the just demands of a righteous, holy God. Jesus was buried in a borrowed tomb, but He arose the third day, triumphant over sin, death, and Hell. Jesus is alive today! “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16) “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” (Ephesians 2:8-9) Ethan was sorry for his sin, repented (turned), and received by faith the free gift that God offered to him. “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” (Romans 10:13) “...but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” (Romans 6:23b) Because of this great salvation, Ethan lived his life serving Jesus. He worked hard to spread this Good News to the world. He is alive in Heaven with Jesus today; and because of this great HOPE in Christ, we know we will see him again soon - not because he was a great kid, but because of his faith in the great Saviour! “And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.” (John 10:28) Your Story What about you? What if you had fallen to your death that day - What if you were to die today? Where will you spend eternity - Heaven or the Lake of Fire? There will not be any parties in the Lake of Fire. It is a place of eternal torment for those who reject God's Son. The Word of God is very clear that there is only One Way to Heaven. “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” (John 14:6) We did not know that Ethan would step into eternity that day; however, because he put his faith in Jesus alone for his salvation, Ethan was ready to go. Some day - perhaps today - you will take your last breath here on earth, and you will step into eternity. Where you spend eternity is determined by what you do with Jesus Christ. Will you accept Him or reject Him? You are not promised another day or another breath. Eternity begins soon - Are you ready? “...Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved…” (Acts 16:31b) “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” (Romans 10:13) “(...behold, now is the day of salvation.)” (2 Corinthians 6:2c) ****************************** This testimony has been made into a gospel tract. I really disagree with some of these points because High Functioning Depression is a very real thing, and I'd say people with high functioning depression are the ones everyone was like "oh but they were so happy I didn't see this coming" when they decided to end their lives.

Yeah, i feel like this video is invalidating. Not everyone can stay all day in bed and isolate forever!! Responsibilities force depressed people to push themselves to continue their normal lives even if they can't take it anymore and are physically and emotionally exhausted! Like, no one is capable of being entirely sad and suicidal 24/7! You can be numb all day, but you can't be sad and suicidal all day! Like.... like you say, high functioning depression is real dammit! Not everyone is the same!! No one can be only "sad" for 5 years!!! (I was giving my example)

I’ve been sad for a long time and still feels negativeness, feels like an endless loop. Can’t sleep well, there are times where don’t want to do something I like, and I definitely don’t like to tell when I’m feeling bad, sad etc I’m not sad 100% every day but most of the time I just don’t feel right, and have negative thoughts of myself. idk what’s wrong with me.
I just want to say: If you think you’re depressed or have symptoms of depression, see a doctor if you can go talk about your symptoms even if it turns out to not be depression. It could be sadness, it could be depression, or something else. So if you can talk to a professional, do so. Keep in mind a lot of depressed people ‘ mask ‘ their depression / symptoms. Also try not to talk yourself out of your symptoms. It doesn’t lead anywhere good.
Thank you for this 💕 I have been in the throes of depression but recently I didn't feel it applied, random bursts of sadness have come and gone but I'm finding my love for writing is suddenly emerging again. I've actually refrained from watching a lot over the last few weeks as I'm deeply entrenched in one of the stories I'm creating - when I was battling depression I couldn't muster my passion for it but right now I can't stop my love for what I do. To be honest i dont know if i am depressed or just deeply saddened but i dont find joy in the simple things i once had. Unless i abuse substances like alcohol, or weed. Even just to enjoy the company of those close to me

I might say sadness and depression are quite different. I have felt sadness many times but it often lasts days-weeks, but one time... I was experiencing symptoms of "sadness" until it became chronic and haven't stoped before right my depression starts. So, careful with the symptoms everyone!

I was diagnosed with clinical depression over 30 years ago, and have spent every day since then attempting to become more "normal" because it's uncomfortable to exist in a depressed state. Often I choose not to acknowledge my depressive moods for exactly that reason. As a result, it seems I've unlearned how to recognize signs of depression; all of these seem to apply to me, though I KNOW my diagnosis and the reasons for it, and I KNOW everything I'm continually doing to keep myself healthy despite it. Having conquered depression is not a signal that it's gone, just like not using heroin is not a signal that one is no longer addicted.
It's not always easy having caring and understandable friends. Sure u might feel free after letting it out, but who can u share it with when no one's interested. Those people are lucky who have good friends ☺️ always remember to hold on to them .

I think that diagnosis or not it is still valid, if you are sad, angry or experience anything you find hard in life you still have the right to talk about it or feel validated for your feelings ❤️ I think it’s just important to not be too hard on yourself and to remember that feeling negative emotions is normal and having periods in life or depression and anxiety is also normal. Just that you have a support system if things go out of hand
Wow, this really made me realize that I've come so far out of depression a year ago... I used to have thoughts of kms, I'd spend all day in bed without eating and it was so deep. Thanks. I'm a minor and my parents don't know about this; I really needed this. I was really confused about what I have, but now I'm sure I have sadness. It's been 2+ months but I don't really have most of the depression symptoms. I'm a minor and I don't want my parents to know about this because I know they won't take me to a psychiatrist.
Dude honestly this video is misleading. You can have all the sadness symptoms and still have depression. Look deeper into it and take this video with a grain of salt. Invalidating depression is just as dangerous as throwing the term around loosely.
As I clarified, I can't ask my parents for help as it's obvious that they won't take me to a psychiatrist. Also I never said I have ALL the depression symptoms. I faced a (bit) trauma in my early childhood and I was never a social butterfly but I don't want to self-diagnose. I just want to wait for the perfect time as things aren't really going well for me right now. I live in a country where they give a lot of workload/stress in schools and that isn't helping either. For now I just want to wait until I can become of legal age. Thanks.

There is also another treatment going on for me rn and I don't want to clash the treatments so I'm looking forward to visiting a psychiatrist when my current treatment finishes and I will probably be of legal age by the time. I’m not diagnosed and I CAN’T be diagnosed because the people in my life who would help me with that, are the cause of it, and it’s hard to talk to anyone. Sometimes I wake up energized, then after standing for 2 hours because of “favors”, I drain fast, immediately get easily irritated, clam up, barely eat drink or sleep, and don’t want to talk. I’ve spent most of this summer just sitting in my room listening to music that doesn’t help or hurt, and/or watching ASMR videos that make it seem like I’m having a conversation with them.
I'm only taking care of myself and doing my daily task because I just don't have any other choice but in reality, I just don't wanna do it. I wanna be in my own little happy place no people can understand forever. This contradicts your video about "Signs you're secretly depressed"

Please understand that Jesus loves you more than you can possibly know. He longs to have fellowship with you. The most important decision you will ever make is where you will spend eternity. The Bible says that you can know that you have eternal life in heaven, but If you are putting your trust in anything other than the finished work of Jesus on the cross to get you to heaven, you do not understand God's way. Please let me share with you how you can know you have a home in heaven. The Bible says that we are all sinners. When God created Adam and Eve, He made them perfect without sin, but they chose to disobey God and became sinful in nature. This sin nature was passed down to all humanity. Romans 5:12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned: Your sin separates you from God. Romans 3:23 For all have sinned (yes, you too) and come short of the glory of God; A holy, righteous God cannot allow sin into heaven. Sin must be paid for and God's price for sin is death, but not just a physical death, but a spiritual death which means separation from God forever in hell. Revelation 21:8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death. In the Old Testament when man sinned, God required the sacrifice of a perfectly spotless lamb as a substitute in the place of the sinner. The blood of that lamb was only a temporary payment for their sin and so this had to be done often. Come, see the place where the Lord lay. Friend, Jesus did all this because He wants to give you the FREE gift of eternal life in heaven with Him! You cannot do anything to earn your own way into heaven. You can't work for it, be baptized for it, go to church for it or try to be good enough for it. It is a FREE gift that God is offering to you if you will simply receive it by faith. Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Ephesians 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9. Not of works, lest any man should boast. God said there is only one way to get to heaven, but it is not hard. You must admit you are a sinner headed for hell. You must believe that Jesus died and paid for your sin with His own blood on the cross, was buried and 3 days later rose from the dead. Then you must repent of your sins and call on God for mercy to save you from hell and give you eternal life in heaven with Him. Romans 10:9 that if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 13. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. None of us deserve God's mercy and grace, but let me warn you friend, that if you reject His FREE gift, you are already condemned and when you die, you will suffer the torment of burning in hell for eternity in a lake of fire where you will be forever separated from God and all that is loving and good. John 3:18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. I have depression but still do some of these things because I force myself to. I force myself out of bed I force myself to talk to people I force myself to enjoy things but deep down I'd rather be in bed all day. And frankly I'm getting tired of forcing myself to do things. You can do literally everything in this video and still be depressed, except for the last one. 4 months later I feel no better even though it may not look like it.

In germany they also say something like "depressions" in plural to describe traumas or things make you feel depressed, which further complicates things in our language when explaining it
So my brother was supposedly diagnosed with depression while he was in a relationship, when he got out of the relationship, he was suddenly better. Did he have actual depression or was it just sadness?
The doctors who diagnosed him are way more qualified than the people on here. Please don’t invalidate his depression. You can be happy and build up but it never goes away.
I was also diagnosed with depression 20 years ago during my early 20's, and this video also makes me feel like I was going through periods of deep sadness rather than clinical depression since I always felt that I had a very good reason on why I was feeling sad whereas someone with clinical depression often feels sad for no reason at all, and I was still enjoying my creative artistic hobbies during my periods of deep sadness whereas someone with clinical depression doesn't enjoy doing any of their favorite hobbies at all.
@@sso.snakey166 I wasn’t trying to invalidate his depression though. It’s been a year since then and he hasn’t shown any kind of the signs like he did when he was in a relationship. He also stopped taking his antidepressants because he said they were causing him anxiety.
i think this is an even tougher distinction, because theres also high-functioning depression. on the surface, people with HFD may be able to complete their tasks, hang out with friends, and still be depressed. maybe they won't have complete anhedonia, but it's still depression
I currently have a bad time. I feel sad or even emotionally numb for no reason. And I also think too much, but not in my artistic way of thinking too much. I think about things I don't want to share with, esspecially with people I don't know. I'll just say it's not very happy things. However I still can feel happy, laugh and smile honestly. I have enough energy to do my tasks and things I love, and I enjoy them. That is why I knew I'm ONLY feeling down. But still, thank for this video. It calmed me even though I knew It's just sadness.

Even though I used to bike a lot, biking was my favorite hobby. I wouldn't mind biking around the neighborhood alone but now, biking alone is... difficult and lonely. I feel like I wasn't enjoying myself.

I went to the loony bin for being suicidal. A friend came and tried to relate to me by telling me about the time they were "depressed" after a break up and told me I'd get over it in a few weeks.

high functioning depression exists. some points of this video can be really really wrong to some people’s experience with depression. everyone goes through it differently and this video really doesn’t help in some situations. it could invalidate people’s experiences and if people who really do have depression watch this, they could start to think it’s just sadness and nothing serious and that could lead to bad things happening later on.
Sadness is an enotion. Depression a mental state. You can smile, laugh, enjoy and do every piece of shit this world has to offer and still hate yourself with the wish, it would all end.
As far as I’m aware only 2 people know that I’m depressed and that’s only because if I don’t let the darkness out it will keep expanding in my mind till I explode. And on the verge of exploding I get these voices of telling me to do it, that I’m useless and no body would care if I died. I say this cause I’m just a stranger to many and I doubt anyone that is my family would ever see this. Recently I’ve taken to start writing all my built up emotions in a note book and keep in check of these things and any possible suppressed memories. I’ve never felt better writing especially when it comes to how I feel. I have an idea why I do have depression and I believe it’s linked with unhealed trauma that I know I do suffer from. I should go and seek help and I really do but something just keeps holding me back, I’ve been suffering from depression since 2013- I created this mask, though blank it hides all the negative emotions and I’ve had it since but recently like 2020 recent it’s starting to crack and I think it’s from my mum passing away- her death still hurts me to this day. There are moments where the darkness isn’t that bad and I can enjoy those little things or when my mate at work (whose one of the 2 people) goes out of his way to make me feel happy with his jokes and sarcasm and talks about the things his kids do to get in trouble or annoy him. And then there’s my other friend her support means everything to me and I’ll support her just the same. I mean I could have been suffering for much longer but in my early teen years I remember somethings that make sense for it to begin sometime around 2013/2014. Because I had more trauma added to the mix in 2015 and by that time depression had already done it’s damage and I just didn’t know how to speak out about it. For 6 or 7 years I kept quiet about it until I told my friend and then telling my mate about it. My friend only found out about it cause I slipped while making a joke about it. After talking about it to her I felt lighter.

Good info for the most part, and while I do need to find more info, I see that I'm persistently sad but NOT depressed! Because I can definitely relate to 1, 2 and 4, which makes it different and NOT a problem for me! Definitely CANNOT relate to 3 or 6, because as an introvert I have NO need or desire to socialize or have any friends (other than a girlfriend, and not just any girlfriend but one who's just as introverted as I am and therefore more into cuddling than talking) -- and also, because my sadness is (usually) entirely due to my extremely low level of cheerfulness which is part of my introversion (in fact, sometimes I even deliberately use my sadness as a shield against too much stimulation), 7 is false for me as well because it remains constant -- but, since it's NOT causing me any problems, it's probably NOT depression!
Whenever I got sad my brain would be very forgetfull that one simple thing can make my sadness go away (I sometime also even forget why I’m being sad and thought I’m just being dramatic lol)

i believe i am in between, i have been feeling "down" for over 8 years now, maybe even more. it comes back everyday and just makes me hate my self. the 1st 3 years i regularly thought of suicide, but i got over that. i can still enjoy my hobby's, being with my friends and other stuff. but i always only see the negative side of things. i got no self confidence , and regularly burn out. idk what i am in but every month something else happens that brings me deeper in this hole.
you could still have depression. this video sorta gives misinformation. people go through depression in different ways and your experience is just different from what the video says.
as someone who has been diagnosed with major depression. my “ex friend” clearly DIDNT know the difference between sadness and depression. Not getting what u want isnr depression. She mocked my mental illness like it was nothing. And said she had it herself? from what I know she’s perfectly fine and mentally stable unlike me.
