I didn't mind KoToR as the protagonists actually had reasonable excuses for not being able to use their full strength force powers.

Kinda surprised they didn't pick that, "You literally died" is a very catchy reason. Otoh, it'd be the third "You got exploded", so maybe better to save it for the inevitable comment edition.

Then in Mass Effect 3, you get released from jail right before the reapers hit and have to rush off planet in your ship.

@@carlsiouxfalls 3 is a bit of a mixed bag. Yeah, you lose most of your gear but you keep your skills and they raise the level cap instead.

In most games Sonic just doesn't have the emeralds anymore because reasons. In Unleashed you still have them but they've been drained of all their power and you need to restore them.

Its kind of a reference to Spaghetti Western movies with he protag being rich in the end of the movie and then in the sequel his money dissapearing is never explained and just lost, it happened in "The Good The Bad and The Ugly" to "A Fistful Of Dollars" or "Sabata" to "Return Of Sabata"

Ooooh I know the answers....roughly 1) in CoM you're in a castle that affects your memories. Therefore everything is done with cards. 2) in 2 you've been sleeping for about a year (Don't remember exact time frime) 3)in days you're a nobody and thus not who you were in the other games. 4) in coded you're a data replica. 5) in DDD you're in a dream during mark of mastery with no Donald or goofy. 6) in BBS it's a prequel so that explains it. 7) in 3 it's very fuzzy to me but iirc sora is trying to find a way that best suits him and more or less forgets everything. That or his new outfits abilities are not compatible with his old outfits powers. Only game that goes against the trend in a way seems to be 0.2 considering aqua still has an end game keyblade and endgame spells. Edit: I'm only counting the singleplayer games here. So no union/unchaind X

@@Twiganut my memory is a bit rusty so I figured I'd mess something up. It's been a while and a half since I played through any of their stories. I'm surprised I remembered what I did. I think last story mode I played through was 3 at release and still don't have the dlc. Since then I've played alot of other games. I still think that while true losing magic could be associated with CoM in 2. I think his aging and physical growth affected him losing some of his combat abilities. But yeah losing things in sifegames and not fully explaining them in main games can get confusing.

Notable in that instance is that Arthas is the ONLY returning hero unit in TFT that’s weakened. When Malfurion and Tyrande show up in the Night Elf Campaign, they’re still level ten and have all of their abilities maxed out as you would expect.

I think they didn't mention that one because arthas lost power step by step and in the final level he regains it anyway but yea would be nice to have pop qnd wc3 in the same video

If you wanna mention WC3, you could mention going from Level 10 Paladin down to Level 1 Death Knight. Because, you know, he grabbed a cursed sword and became undead. It's still a player shock, as a Level 10 Paladin was nigh-invincible and the Level 1 Death Knight will die to pretty much _anything_ in the first level without some minions, and it's more of a stealth mission than anything.

That's pretty reasonable, all things considered. 10 years in the slammer with nothing but mooks to plow through? Not that anyone would want to fight him after seeing him floor a group of 6, 7 guys sent in as assassins. If anything, I'm more impressed by that police officer who took him out in one hit with a baton.

The cleaning crew you hired has found, cleaned, and organized your weapons from the first game for you. You'll have an opportunity to save and pick your load out, and then you get to kick ass. Then you get an achievement titled "Pack Rat". If you use only the gear you had before that point to beat the boss, you get the achievement "Newer Garbage Pile". If you defeat the final boss with all over your rediscovered weapons, you get the achievement "Nostalgia Trip". If you use a mixed load out, you get the achievement "Fixer Upper". (The save point is in that room because the developers figured you would want to play the entire game again just for a slightly different boss fight for each achievement.)

Yup, Kingdom Hearts uses this trope constantly.

Actually, he doesn't reach that realisation until later in the game, after Kaileena's death. And it's not until near the end of the game when he finds his father's body that he is forced to accept that everything bad that has happened is the result of his meddling with time. At the start, he lets it go, because he assumes everything will be okay. He's expecting a hero's welcome with his new bride - who herself can control time anyway.

I was gonna write the same thing. Gothic 2 was awesome. And Night of the Raven was even better. "Good" old wizard pal Xardas rescued you but your weapons and armor was sadly left behind. Together with all your exp, skills, etc.

The temple collapse didn't actually happen at the end of Gothic 1. They added that in the Gothic 2 intro.

@@gilless429 You're almost right. *HUGE SPOILER FOR Deus Ex:Mankind Divided:* ....you're not actually the same Adam Jensen from Human Revolution. The Illuminati do recover Adam's body from Panchea, but he's very much dead. The playable character in MD is a clone with the original Adam's implanted memories, that's why all of his augs are new. You can find literal proof of this (beyond the end of Sarif's ongoing questline and the mid-credits scene at the end) in the VersaLife vault. Look for one of the crates in the corner (you can see the shape of a human torso in it with your Smart Vision), jump on top and look down so you can see the little frosted-over window on it, and toss an emp or stun grenade to get a quick look inside (provided you have emp and/or stun protection). Sorry for the nerd rant, but this blew my mind when I found it in game. It's totally worth playing through the game again knowing this too; you notice a lot more elements throughout that tie into this subplot.

@Lizardguy Prime has always been canon, they've stated the inconsistencies are just due to the different developers. To Tanabe and Sakamoto every game is canon and theirs is the only opinion that matters (however unfortunate that turns out sometimes).

Though I believe you get to keep at least some stuff if you import your save from the first game. I haven't played the original trilogy in a while so I forget exactly what carries over.

@@jackiechan715 You get a bonus to your Paragon/Renegade score depending on your disposition in the first game. In Legendary Edition you also get an email from your bank telling you you've been collecting interest on your account this whole time, here's 100,000 credits.

Even at full power, Cal is pretty average for a Jedi, and if Merrin is playable, then you have a new character to learn abilities with. And Cal did end the game with a pretty nasty gut wound, so he's probably on the mend.

Well, most Zelda games are self-contained. Nearly every Link is a different Link from the rest. Of the few that are actual continuations, I know Link's Awakening opens with being shipwrecked and waking stranded on an island, and Majora's Mask starts off with Link getting robbed.

@@flashbaxx Adding on top of that: Phantom Hourglass starts with Link nearly drowning much like Link's Awakening, Breath of the Wild now has a prequel to justify its built-in excuse of regeneration and amnesia, and Adventure of Link... is the only one without a great excuse, actually. Oracle games are flimsy but you can actually transfer a lot of your stuff between them.

and oracle of seasons/ages actually has you carry your stuff over! wind waker and phatom hourglass might be guilty, though, IDK never played WW

To be fair, in most Zelda games you play as different incarnations of Link in different eras and timeliness. There's no reason to expect the next Link to have all the items and skills of the previous Links at the start of each new game.

My headcanon is that she is suffering from PTSD from the baby metroid dying for her. Sure, you could get that from how motherhood is a theme in the game, but in my headcanon Adam is that asshole because she can't be trusted not to bomb everyone at first... then can't seem to think of turning on thermal protections without being told it is ok... then she spaces out and seems to ignore everything when in big danger. But we don't see it because we are playing as the ptsd'ing person.

@@masteryoraerasante well the canon is ptsd, but more from losing TWO homeworlds to ridley showing up, watching two father figures (both of which turn out to have dna in her so ya...) die trying to stop ridley, and a tiny bit the sacrifice of baby. during other m shes really not in a mood to be going full out and then when ridley pulls a freaking immortal reappearance she snaps just alittle. i would too if i blew up a planet after killing the guy 5 times and he STILL shows up alive.

Especially before the Shadowkeep expansion, when you always started with the campaign and were depowered for more than maybe 10 minutes.

I dunno, I didn't like the idea that my character, a literal godslayer, would leave the city with just a basic pistol in shitty armour. My hunter was a Trials champion, that dude wouldn't have left his Eyasluna behind for anything.

I just head cannoned it that I had left my gear with banshee as he was going a custom paint job for me so I wasn’t using the same shader as everyone XD

When I played SR1, I would always recruit one of the random blonde female gang members at every opportunity. Which meant she was always tagging along behind everything I did. That last drive to the dock? I brought her along... ...so my headcanon retcon for Saints Row 2 is the character from the first game (Player) died in the blast. The female character I created for SR2 (Boss) was that random scrub homie who accompanied him. She didn't get a gender transition-- she got a promotion.

I don't know why I love that headcanon retcon so much, but I love it so much.

Yeah, it might have been a first for the live-action movies, but I'm pretty sure there was at least one instance of Jedi healing in the Clone Wars series, so even in Disney-canon it's still established already. Granted, he's not wrong about the Force doing whatever they want it to, but as I recall that's literally an tenet of both Jedi and Sith philosophies: a skilled enough user can do pretty much anything.

Star Wars RPGs (whether TT or VG) would not have been nearly as successful without various healing powers.

Friend of mine pointed out that depending on how you see Darth Vader's I'm Getting In A Big Egg Now scene in Empire Strikes Back, we not only had healing in the movies, but DARK SIDE healing.

I'm pretty sure lockpicks wouldn't have made much of a difference in RE3 given that it's about you escaping a city as a civilian rather than staying indoors. And you can probably blame RE4 Leon on the government being stingy. Now Chris actually has no excuse since he's a war machine that works for himself and he should've infiltrated the code veronica island with more than a shitty pistol.

To be fair, RE4 starts out with Leon just checking out a rumor about the president’s daughter, not entering a known hot war zone, so going in fully equipped with all his gear from before would’ve been considered too extreme. I do agree with the Jill Valentine point though.

@@LuunieTuunie it's been one of those non-canon things we handwave for gameplay mechanics since legends. In lore force healing existed too, but it was things like purging toxins from the body, boosting natural immune responses to disease, and speeding natural healing processes. It's never been "I'm gonna hold my hand here for a sec aaaaaaaaaand you're not dead anymore". And there's a reason for that. That being that death is supposed to be the ultimate consequence. And once death doesn't have consequences, stakes disappear. Why would I care if one of the heroes gets murdered when I know someone can just do jazz hands and everything will be fine?
