One thing I really loved about this movie, which was way before my time, is that there’s little dialogue and they let the cars, the scenes, etc speak for themselves and do all of the acting. It’s wild to think that in the context of things, we now have street cars that will do 0-60 in 1.99 seconds and the quarter mile in the 9s…all with the air condition in and listening to the radio in a comfy leather seat
I owned a Buick 1970 GS455 from 1978 until 1995, it was a good car. I still can't imagine what it was like to be able to buy one or 455 GTO new in 1970.

At 0:39 & 1:18 the GTO chirps the rear tires when it shifts into second gear. With that 455 engine the trans obviously would have been a Turbo 400 Hydramatic. Good Day Everyone!
i just have one question after seeing that scene; were bias plys prerred over radials ..? specially on muscle because that was all they had? or did they have superior hi-speed performance?
How to get a yellow car and call it "Sunburst Orange" or an orange car and call it "Carousel Red"? Throw a Pontiac emblem on it in the late '60's to '72 and make it sexy. I've always wanted a radius'd rear wheel well '55 210 since first seeing this movie, but the 3 or 4 Sunburst second gen Pontiac A-bodies I've encountered in real life stopped me in my tracks every time. Atoll Blue is the best color for a '70 Judge in my opinion though.
I know it has been a year but I saw the GTO at a Pontiac convention in Charleston WV several years a go it was completely untouched and unrestored but still in great shape the GTO is not a plane 455 it is a 455 HO complete with functioning cold air induction (the RA IV 400 for 1970 was faster but extremely rare)by the way a stock 70 GTO would've easily won the cross country race against the shoe box now in quarter mile the shoe box wins hands down my thinking on that the 55 probably has a 4.88(or lower) rear gear vs the goats 3.42 or maybe 3.90 but unlikely with it being a automatic 55 Chevy top sustained speed maybe 55 mph and with that induction system (2 X 4 bbl) maybe 4 mpg while the GTOs top sustained speed would be 80 + mph and at that speed 12 mpg and I would guess the 55 has a small fuel cell doesn't take much to go a quarter mile saving weight is everything in a drag racer so old saying can pass everything but a gas station would hold true for the 55 (takes time to get gas) Having said all of that in the movie the 55 would've won simply because the goats driver was a fucking nut case
