He worked at KSTP until 1981, so no, he didn't lose his job because of this rather innocuous comment. I think people are taking his comments a bit too seriously. I saw it as possibly making light of the angry phone calls the station received because of the Playboy special. Even if he was legitimately disgusted by it, I don't think people back then expected local newscasters to be mindless, corporate zombies with no opinion about the lead-in to their newscast.

The TV anchor is Ron Majers, and he's great. Been on the news in Chicago for as long as I can remember, and I'm in my early 30s. Every afternoon he does a spot on the Roe & Roeper show on WLS-AM, and he's absolutely hysterical. Nice to see him here being his usual witty self.

"Mork and Mindy"--one of my favorites! I've noticed that the "cheerleader" episode is one that has been panned by critics, though.

Wow! This is quite the treasure trove. I'm sure the station got phone calls regarding the Playboy broadcast...but was Richard Dawson the one hosting the show? I saw a credit regarding "assistant to Mr. Dawson," and he was pretty famous then. The "America Held Hostage" show about the Iranian Hostage Crisis ended up becoming "Nightline."

2:12 - LaWanda Page (Aunt Esther from Sanford & Son) in Detective School! Plus a classic Fred Sanford-like remark at the end. I for one would have enjoyed what the local anchor said if that was on in my area at the time! TOUGH ENOUGH.... TO OVERSTUFF!

That's actor James Staley in the Contac commercial. He was the Motel Desk Clerk in Vacation that refused to cash Clark's check until it cleared.

Also, did anyone have a TV set like or similar to the one in the Contac commercial? We did, except it wasn't silver trim on the front. It was brown like the rest of the cabinet. Even after viewing full screen, I can't tell if there are push button switches to change the channel. On ours, all we had to do was touch a small metal post. There were no moving parts to it, just a light touch to change the channel. You could set a specific channel to each. The layout is similar.

I wonder if this news man is still a journalist. It was very unprofessional of him to comment on the current programming. He was calling the current viewers disgusting for watching the Playboy special. And praising those that refused to watch.

I honestly doubt any news director would allow such behavior. He turned a news update into a Bill O'Reilly talking point. I wished his name had flashed on the screen so I could see if there were repercussions to his comments. If the then programming were going to allow some local reporter bad mouth their programming decisions.
