These commercials aired on CBS on November 28th, 1977
1. Soft Scrub
2. Duracell
3. Sinex Long-Acting
4. Corning Pyrex Bake-A-Round (Strange idea, sort of science fictiony)
5. "The Incredible Hulk" Commercial Bumper
6. Ruffles
7. Zest (Washing photographs in soap to examine the film left over...what the what?)
8. No Nonsense Control Top
9. Tender Vittles
10. Birdseye International Rice Dishes
11. Kal Kan Mealtime
12. GE Coffee Corner
13. Fisher-Price Adventure People (I LOVE the "TV action team". The success of this series led Kenner to develop the similarly sized Star Wars 3 3/4" action figures, released in 1978)
14. Avon
15. Green Giant Early Peas (With the voice of Paul Frees)
16. "The Incredible Hulk" Commercial Bumper
17. Promo for "M*A*S*H", "One Day At A Time" "Lou Grant" (Wow that last clip is...awkward)
18. Promo for "Bing Crosby's Merry Olde Christmas" (Crosby had died just over a month earlier on October 14th. Besides being his last Christmas special, it's notable for featuring his "Little Drummer Boy" duet with David Bowie. The full special can be seen here: • Video ) and "The Johnny Cash Christmas Special"
19. Promo for "An All-Star Tribute to Elizabeth Taylor"
20. Promo for "The Four Musketeers"
21. "The Incredible Hulk" Commercial Bumper
22. Promo for "Maude" (With Bill Macy)
23. Promo for "The Johnny Cash Christmas Special" (The full special can be seen here: • Video )
24. 7-Up at QFC (With the voice of Paul Winchell. Though not as bad as the Pepsi Snowman I posted last year...still nightmare fuel)
25. Ford Fiesta
26. Promo for "The Mary Tyler Moore Show"
27. KIRO Eyewitness News Bumper

4:22 - "Not a vegetable? And it's from Bird's Eye?" NOTHING MAKES SENSE ANYMORE!! Cats and dogs, living together! Mass hysteria!!
@hrtvfan2870
@hrtvfan2870 7 лет назад
Well, during the 1970s at least Bird's Eye had been expanding beyond frozen vegetables for a while at this point (selling everything from whipped topping to pudding during that period)
@zachhoran
@zachhoran 7 лет назад
Dover Farms whipped topping was the Birds Eye brand, circa early 80s, back when General Foods owned Birdseye

I can remember that For Fiesta commercial where it started out with a bunch of cars going through paper. There's another one like it with Ford Fairmonts.

Wish I could find those Birds Eye international rice dishes in the store. They look really good.

The short order cook at the counter in the Ruffles ad was William Duell, who played patient Jim Sefelt in the movie One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. You also have No Nonsense Panty Hose's longtime spokesperson, Susan Blanchard, in one of their commercials. And that's Paul Frees as the guy reading the Sprout that story about peas. As for the two talking snowmen in the 7up ad, I know that's Paul Winchell as the snowman on the left, but who did the voice of the other one? It sounds a bit like Herb Vigran, but a much younger sounding version.

They had to specify that it was the Twiggy from England that was in the Bing Crosby special. I guess as opposed to the one from Laos.

Chris Lang my question is why didn't they mention that David Bowie was also from England?
@allenjones3130

Twiggy and David Bowie were guests on Bing's last special, "Merrie Olde Christmas".

0:30--Back when alkaline batteries were a luxury of sorts, and not the standard type of battery. 2:43--Looks like this was before they tried to (falsely) convince us that Zest wasn't really a soap. 3:45--I remember feeding our cats Tender Vittles back in the day. They were soft bite-sized morsels that fell somewhere in between "dry" and "wet" (canned) cat foods. 10:45--Ford Fiesta was imported from Germany? That's news to me. With the Ford brand, I always thought it was an American car.
@80sCommercialVault
@80sCommercialVault 3 года назад
Captive imports were in vogue at the time, mainly because most American cars were still being designed like boats and were not at all fuel efficient during the oil crisis. This was not even Ford's first captive import released in the 70s, their first being the Capri.

Interesting to see John Marler at the end. When I moved to Atlanta in 1986 he was on WAGA, a CBS affiliate at the time.

Yikes! @ 2:38 this guy (IMHO) is a dead ringer for Anthony Hopkins and I am therefore CREEPED out by him in that commercial! The weird voiceover did not help either.

Lou Grant with a rather interesting topic is OUTSTANDING entertainment, according to CBS. Those 7up snowmen came close, but nothing will EVER top the Pepsi Snowman from last year. NOTHING. Channel Sevennnnnnnnnnnnnseattle.
@80sCommercialVault
@80sCommercialVault 7 лет назад
I've never actually seen it, but "Lou Grant" is often cited as a one of the best TV shows dealing with the field of journalism and dealing with a variety of topics in the news at the time. Judging by the promo here, CBS had no idea how to sell the show to audiences.

You’re right. After some deeper Googling I learned it’s an actress named Susan Blanchard. Their voices are so similar to me! Thanks for the videos, as always.

Also keep in mind, the actress who you mentioned was over 30 here...Martha Quinn was only 18 in 1977 (born in 1959). Here's an example of an ad with her from 1981, likely shot just before her gig at MTV: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-CGIIq9NkpFY.html
