Man, this Super Bowl was a classy one! Nowadays, Super Bowl Sunday is a gawdy & commercial insanity! Oh, how times have changed!

Wow, I remember the old styrofoam clam shells for McDonalds and all the uproar it created garbage wise in the 80's, hahaha.

Wow; I've recently started watching these montages in order (1970's Volume 1, 1980's Volume 1, 1970's Volume 2, 1980's Volume 2, etc) and now I feel like I've seen all the commercials from Super Bowl XIII. Makes me wonder if any of these commercials were produced specifically to air during the Super Bowl and only aired once, as is often the case nowadays?

I guess all that customer service was'nt enough to get Eastern Airlines to survive past 1990

Man, McDonald's ads just aren't THAT cheery anymore.

Nor is McDonald's. It's kinda lost its luster for me. At least, that's the case with the local franchise.

Sports programs have always drowned us in the same 3 or 5 sponsors throughout the show.

Yep. Probably one of the best games, though. (Saying this as a 25-year-old Steeler fan and as a bit of a nerd about NFL history).

The foam McDonalds containers were made by Huntsman Chemicals, the same (John) Huntsman of the Huntsman Cancer Institute. I always assumed that he felt compelled to give back after making a bunch of foam. Not sure if that's the official story, but they've done a ton of good cancer research in any case.

There are some great jingles in this volume. i.e. McDonald's Schlitz & Coke 9. the more things change, the more they stay the same I wonder if any airlines have the same policy that Eastern Airlines did at this point in time

Wow... so these were the Super Bowl ads of that day, huh??? Pretty underwhelming compared to the glitzy, celebrity-packed, multi-million dollar ads from nowadays!

Coke: "It's the real thing"; "adds life"; "is IT" (my personal reportoire of coca cola tv commercial slogans).

They've had lots of great slogans/jingles over the years, but I must admit that I'm partial to "Things Go Better With Coke", even though it's from a bit before my time.

@Idoljunky32 Lowenbrau and Schlitz are still around but Schlitz especially had a hard time during the late 80's and 90's. Pabst eventually bought Stroh's (who bought Schlitz in '82) in '99 and thus aquired all their brands. Pabst then reintroduced the old formula in '08 to try and revive the brand after the beer fell into obscurity. Wikipedia has a good article on it if you're interested. Just type "Joseph Schlitz Brewing Company" into google and click the wiki link. :)

@RoxyAlexander I remember making the same comment back when these ads used to air. My father said that if you shot directly at the steel U-loop the bullet - while I'm sure it would leave a mark or dent - would just ricochet off without severing it. More to the point though, if you want to defeat a lock like that, why are you using a gun? Just bring some bolt cutters.
@RoxyAlexander
@RoxyAlexander 13 лет назад
If you wanted to shoot a lock apart, wouldn't you aim at the vulnerable metal loop instead of the body? Just sayin.

64k chips? Where's the 64GB chip that size? That "American" Dodge used a VW engine until 1981 which makes that car as American as that Lowenbrau beer

There is a a lot of 70s 80s 90s commercials when they advertise their products.

@videodoe I was about to comment and say that these sure do seem rather quiet and low-key compared to today's Super Bowl ads (or any ad from today, for that matter).
