Many posts about adopting a dog from a rescue or shelter. I would totally support that, even though the situation in USA is different to here in the UK. I used to have Golden Retrievers but once I visited out local dog rescue centre with my adult son I realised there were many good, well behaved dogs that deserved a good home. My son adopted his Border Collie about 8 years ago, he is a great dog - totally devoted to my son, his wife and now their baby son. When my last retriever died of old age and we were ready for another dog, we adopted a Staffordshire bull terrier from the same animal rescue centre. Two years later we adopted another Staffie to be a sibling to our existing Staffie - they are a great pair of dogs, well behaved and devoted to the family. They are both besotted by our grandson and behave very well around him. Sure rescue dogs have some issues you need to work through, but the rewards are great.

PNWCB here, wishing you good luck finding your new dog. I did go back and watch the Stanley video... it was very nice.... I know how hard it is, I lost my retirement dog of 13 years a month ago. I'm still mad at the universe. She was 9 lbs of the most loving and loyal poodle you could want... she was awesome, she loved going for a ride in the truck. I still talk to her when I'm alone at the house.... I always talked and sang to her.... Have a great day..... Peace....

Re; The puppy! Wow - You folks opened up the proverbial "can"! I'm sure you will get lots of offers of a free pup and it will likely be a good , well-bred dog. But I second many others who advise a shelter or other good adoption site as a source for your new dog. There is a huge need to find homes for these dogs and the Morgans would set a great example for others by doing this. Best thing we ever did!!

Our neighbors had a run of 7 or 8 Goldens. Excellent dogs and they let Grandpa Steve (ME) cross the street and rough my buddies up when ever I like. Recently, with the passing of their last Golden, they have transitioned to a coupla rescue dogs. Grandpa Steve still has some buddies to wrestle with and they have hit the jackpot on some really great loving dogs.

I hope you find the perfect fur person. If I had English Goldens I would happily give you one for the great advertising for my kennel. When I lost my dog to cancer I wanted a lab from a great kennel here in town that were only $800. and came with a health certification. My wife talked me into a rescue lab husky mix puppy. One month later I had over $2,000 in veterinary bills, and that was just the beginning. I love Daisy and wouldn’t take anything for her, but I will never let anyone talk me out of doing I want anymore. Nothing compares to raising a dog from a pup. Love and Light from Winston Salem, NC

Melissa, I can appreciate how you feel. Three years ago, I bought a puppy for my 70th birthday. My birthday is Feb. 4th and I got her on Feb. 6th. Her name is Maggie and she is a mix. Her mom was a Bernese Mountain dog and the father a mini poodle. (Done surgically). She is about 32 pounds and sleeps with us every night. I have been in and out of the hospital and my wife says she feels safer with Maggie here. I find it hard to imagine not having her and understand how much you miss Stanley. I wish you the best in your search and know you will find a puppy soon. God bless.

Have you ever thought about adopting a retired military working dog? All retired MWDs available for adoption are located at the Military Working Dog School, which operates out of Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. There is no fee to adopt a retired MWD, but you must pay for all transportation costs. Veteran dogs that served with honor would be an awesome addition to your home. My friends adopted a retired (GSD) German Shepherd and he is amazing. Have a great day!

We got a new dog about eight months a go. I when to Puppy Find ( puppyfind.com ). I put in what I was looking for, then the state. Then they give you a pictures and a statement on the pup. Some breeders give you a couple of lines or want you to go too another site for information. The breeder we picked give all the information on the pup. The age, the parents, if any tests where done, the shoot history, etc. After a ever nice phone call with the breeder we went to look at the pup and picked her up. We took the dog to your vet and everything checked out great. Because of the info and talking with the breeder and finding that she had been breeding for over 14 years, we felt comfortable to take the time and drive the 2hours 0ne Way to get a dog. The dog has been great, all kinds of energy. Loves to play ball, to the point she bugs me to take her out. And very, very smart.

I see why Melissa wanted to feed. She can feed faster than Mike can split. Mike could split faster than the conveyor could work. We lost our dog and my wife said, " no more dogs. Take down the dog run. " I took down the dog run. Little while later, we got another dog. So....I put up another dog run with a dog door so she can go out whenever she wants. I love watching your videos. I wish we were neighbors. Take care.

RESCUE RESCUE RESCUE, join there RESCUE Organization. My last two are rescues from the Australian shepherd organization we joined. They come out to your property to inspect and verify everything.

Look at the shelters for dogs, They have golden Retrievers of all ages. There are all Rescue Organizations that handle just one breed.

After my Golden passed away, we looked into a Rescue that deals specifically with only Golden Retrievers of all ages. Their name is "Delaware Valley Golden Retriever Rescue" and they're in Reinholds, PA. They seem like a great organization, but I haven't dealt with them directly. Ultimately, we decided not to get another dog. :-(

I always used to have issues at the pharmacy with our (rescue) dog's birth date but the best was when I had to have a conference with the pharmacist about the label warnings concerning limiting alcohol intake and not driving or operating heavy machinery while using the drug!! He had a licence but i'm pretty sure it wasn't for driving!!!

What took you so long Melissa? We lost our 8 yr old puppy 2/16/20 and we have already been to the rescue . The 3 of us really miss Trevi, but our 14 yr old lab is totally out of sorts. We love big "mutts". Had a golden when yhe kids were growing up. Good luck finding a puppy

Personally, I'm all for Rescues. I'm sure there are rescue organizations for Golden's. Lots of pure breeds have them. We have a chihuahua that is. The family had to move and couldn't keep her. We have had 5 over the years and they ALL are great loving companions. They just seem to know that they are on their second chance. That's my two cents...

Don Stanfield we had to put our rescue down today. She was over 10 years old when we got her. We think she was just about 15. She had been in the shelter for at least two years when we took her home, and what a loving, loyal and joyful dog she was! Wound is still fresh, but if we get another, it will be a rescue. I totally agree with you.

Ignore the following, if it's irritating. :) First, love the baby "outro!" best yet. Next, would you guys consider adding a different breed to your pack of gorgeous Goldens? We've been dealing with a breeder in Telluride, CO, for decades, and raising German Shepherd Dogs. You could pick up a puppy when you swing through Colorado, and stay at our house in Aspen area. These dogs are dispositional "Family Dogs," with ZERO aggressive traits, but hyper-smart, loving, intuitive and protective of babies and women. Your new GSD puppy would bond with Ruger and Piper, instantly, and be submissive and obedient. You wouldn't have to worry about Mel going on walks (coyotes, etc.) because the Shepherd would not run from a confrontation, but protect Melissa. It would curl up around your grandson and lick him to death. We've had Shepherds from this breeder, forever, and they're remarkable, loving, wonderful friends. Apologize if this is inappropriate. Love you guys.

@@firewoodprovidersnorthwest Nothing worse than losing a loving friend, and that defines what "dog" means; hugs to your son. We had labs and goldens when I was a kid, and they're wonderful, loving friends, but Shepherds are a breed apart. They can interpret facial expressions and read your thoughts. They are also fearless. The wife of one of my friends was hiking on The Continental Divide with her three male Shepherds, and they were attacked by a mountain lion. The lion killed one dog, but the other two stayed in the fight and drove the cat off. She was four miles from her car, and could see the cat following behind her the whole way back.

Mike, I love that splitter but it appears the levers are plumbed wrong for operating it on the side you're on. It should be the lever closest to you for the ram, the middle one for the wedge up and down and the one farthest away for the lift. That would make it easier to operate. What do you think?
