The amazing thing about 12 years without an accident is you have avoided the lunatics on the roads for 12 years! That’s truly amazing Dan! I’ve been watching your videos for about two years now and in just the past year I’ve seen you avoid two serious accidents and if it hadn’t been for your exceptional driving skills you would have definitely smashed that van that decided at the last second that it wasn’t going to exit at that exit and drove right in front of you and fortunately you hit the brakes hard, stayed in your lane and didn’t interfere with the other semi beside you on the highway. You avoided hitting the van that pulled in front of you and you avoided wrecking yourself because of your defensive driving skills to avoid a wreck. Mercer obviously recognizes and appreciates your dedication to their organization and your professionalism in representing them. Same can be said for Dorsey Trailers. If they didn’t have great respect for your skills and professionalism they wouldn’t be associated with you at all but they’re proud to have you pulling their trailers around and making them look good. True that!

Yes sir I learned the hard way about jumper cables. My truck wouldn’t start at the rest area near Monroe, La. Repair shop came to give me a boost which only took them 15 minutes to complete and cost me $300. Lesson learned!!

i was told years ago Dan that there are people who drive trucks. There are others who are truck drivers. You have to make up your mind which one you want to be. You Dan are a truck driver.

Once you pull that Stepdeck - you won’t want to go back to a flatbed, you can, but you WILL want that step deck BACK, ! They can be the same- But So different- you can find a small Bern and unload, where with a flat bed, it best be a loading dock or a portable dock, stepdecks, are so easy to load, normally you’ll load a lot of farm equipment, or military, you can haul what you would haul with a flatbed, but with that Stepdeck, it “opens up so much More” I can’t wait to see what you think, will it be a 48- ? If so, I hope the top deck is at least a 10ft, but 12ft would be better, I had a 48, with a 12 top deck and a 36 lower, I had a older trailer 96 inch. Spread - but Buddy, I got News for you, once you pull a Stepdeck- you’ll Wonder Why You Waited so long ! Haha- I truly ENJOY seeing you and Bailey out there, but knowing your missing the Home life, I trucked for 20 years, and I was fired for showing my Ass- Lease driver- my wife came and picked me up - 1500 miles, I sometimes Wished I had Never drove a truck- when we got home, the next night- She told me she had Lung Cancer, I got 6 years with her. I Wish You Happiness- Prayers for You and Bailey, 🤠🐾♥️✝️🇺🇸🌲

Havent been here for a while but 1st to say... 12 years without an accident, well done mate. Had 2 in a row in late 2021, nothing real big but not that easy to hit 12 years without any troubble. About the dorsay stepdeck... Im on a stepdeck since january last year and i wanna say "sometimes it hurts", sometimes its a pain in the a** . Steps are different, the loads, lenght, weights and so on. Might be a good journey for an "old man" like you Dan.

I just got new drives put on the truck I drive, got 400,000 miles out of them, you can’t beat the Bridgestone M726 ELA drive they’re fantastic, steers I’ve had the best luck with Michelin’s and the Firestone FS 591’s

To the folks looking at that air hose, make sure to get one with the straight on air chuck, for whatever reason a lot of them seem to come with the angled one that won't get the inner dual. I swapped the end of mine to take a quick release but still didn't have the right chuck. Most of our trailers where I am at have a CTIS so I rarely have to drag that out unless that fails. For the tractor I have a trucker stick kit on both sides of the truck so if I need to get the rear axles aired up I just carry one hose over to the low side and pair it to the hose on that side and get it that way. Spotted ya headed south on 65 outta Louisville Saturday or Sunday. Good looking ride, congrats on 12 years.

I bought a used trailer that had 2 double coin tires, they wear funny and are only going to last half as long as the Firestones next to them.

Dan Dan the professional flat deck man. Congrats on the 12 years. WOW getting a step deck from Dorsey for 6 months. You park yours and use there’s which over the 6 months will be a savings to you. You might actually like the step deck better. Gives you a lot more options which means as you know sitting less. Plus they are so much easier to get up on. Plus your center of gravity lowers. One thing about step decks, is you have to lean over to crank the winches. That, and the winch bar keeps hitting the ground. Hopefully you get ramps and can haul some tractors and stuff.

Step deck is the way to go. With ramps there are more opportunity for different types of freight such as farm machinery farm tractors with cabs and vehicles and vans and of course all of the regular flatbed freight. Much easier to secure loads and easier to install tarps. That is just a few of the advantages. Also on 53 foot length is the available sliding rear axle for spread or regular tandem just makes it easier to turn when spread axle is not needed during trips when loads are lighter.

Im glad to see you ran the Double Coin brand, I have them on my Wanderlodge M/H. It gives them credibility.

You may need to get a different set of tarps for the step deck. It really makes a difference having step deck tarps.

Hi Daniel I have been retired for a bit now I was an owner operator from Canada I ran all over the US and hauled a flat bed my whole career for a few years I had 2 trucks been around a bit a step deck is a wonderful trailer for an old guy there is a learning curve but at the end of the day you can haul any load you want just a bit more planning keep up the good videos 😊

Stepdeck- Mercer is by and large a Flatbed Company. Switching to a specialty trailer could hurt your bottom line. Biggest differences- lower deck working is only 30ish inches from ground so alot more strain on lower back. Rachet bar to tighten straps will hit pavement. Again, you are 18 inches lower to ground. Tires- 17.5,.19's, or 22's. Big difference in wear. Loads- depending on lower deck height, you can now take loads that are 10' tall, maybe even OW/OD if you so choose like military vehicles. Which rolls into next comment, Ramps. Ramps are super important in my opinion with a step deck to load/unload vehicles/equipment. Ramps should also double as load extenders for Flatbed freight. Also, dual axle or tri-axle? Anyway, you'll learn a new trailer system, haul different freight (Vehicles), and document new experiences. So exciting for you! Best of luck!

Make sure Dorsey provides load levelers with that step deck I know you get I beam loads occasionally

Dan I think you'll really like pulling Dorseys knew step deck you'll be amazed at what kind of loads you can haul I believe you'll get some really different kind of loads a d may even pay better you might decide to buy it after pulling it and the loads you'll be able to haul.
