In this series I will show you a modified version of the US issue LC-2 LBE (load bearing equipment). This system is specifically setup as a 72 hour survival kit to be used as is without the addition of a backpack. This system is designed to be survival / evasion type gear, NOT a traditional tactical type system. This kit is more of a bare bones kit mainly consisting of essentials to support one person for 1 to 3 days on the move. It is designed to be a lightweight, mobile, and adaptable solution to carrying essential gear in the field. This system is also a perfect setup for day hiking. Video 1 of 3.

hey Pack rat 5.56, I like you LBE web kit. I have used the same basic kit since 1972 when Uncle Sugar invited me to take my senor trip with his group and we toured several U. S. base's and a few of his nicer over seas vacation spots. I have used my LBE Kit for Hunting and day hikes. We used the same gear set for up to 10 to 14 Days but we would be resupplied either by air or truck. We would also use large Alice packs with a external pack frame. Thanks again for the LBE gear review. Joe-R

Jager, as a marine i say, wow maybe if we rip apart people that share and post here more often. He should be thanked and encouraged to post more. Everyone in bushcraft has their own style and we can always learn from another. The sad point is your survivability is greatly diminished with negative attitudes and not being open to any and all possibilities Its your greatest tool that will save your life. Seeing the positive in any situation. Lets keep this a learning sharing and caring place.

Hey, great system. I use a load bearing vest with sustainment pouches and but pack for small 2-3 day hikes and I love it. Great system.

OH my goodness! I put together a kit JUST like this (I based off of WWII/Vietnam load bearing equipment) for outdoors and survival situations! I never thought anyone ever had the same idea. Really cool, man! Awesome video.

I love how little you carry. Some people showing their 3day packs are carrying multiple of the same tools and things they likely wouldn't use adding maybe half in useless weight.

I prefer the ALICE Y-Harness system with a Nam era butt pack , 2 saw pouches (5ak mags per), K-Bar, voodoo tactical dump pouch as a med kit, 1 1qt canteen, drop leg pistol holster. I wear this under my ALICE Medium BOB. This system has worked for me for 4 years in USMC and it is what I carry at all times since discharged from Marines in 1976. My Alice pack is mollee modified and I carry an OK3C USMC bayonet with ALICE Pack. This has NEVER failed me once since 1972.

I have a couple of these and one is set up like yours, the traditional way as the military intended it to be used. Nothing wrong with a backpack set up either, I also am a pack user. Just depends on the situation which I would prefer. Thanks for your interest and support. Take Care.

Good video I'm sure you're right an experienced survivalist could last with as little as a flint, knife and compass But, it's always nice to have other tools for piece of mind and a little added comfort the two most important things to have are a good mental attitude and be prepared, thing soften happen with only a moments notice peace :)

Hi SkillSet7, I appreciate your kind words of support. I am in the process of filming a followup to this video to show the exact system you are asking about. I hope to post it soon. In my opinion, the cross draw is really a personal preference. If it is comfortable for you and you get good results, then I think it is fine. I have practiced with the traditional setup for so long, it is what I am comfortable with personally. again, if it works for you, use it! Thanks again for the support!

Thanks! They are very convenient. I think these are great for in the field use. They can be used as patches too if you need to swab the bore, at least until you have better means to clean your weapon.

The only suggestion I would make would be to add a poncho liner to the kit. It is works as a decent makeshift blanket in warm environments.

I quick suggestion for the ALICE pouches. Tactical Tailor short MALICE clips can be used in place of TA-50 keepers (ALICE clips). MALICE clips are lighter and more durable than ALICE clips. They also are not going to pop open on you. I use them on my bug out bag for an ALICE canteen pouch. I combine that with an ALICE to MOLLE adapter so I can stick it on the PALS webbing on my pack.

@ omgPepper, the description begins immediately with an explanation that this series differs from the back pack series, because you can throw it on and be good to go for 72 hrs. I like this series because I feel the army departed from what worked and what made sense when they change their load bearing equipment. I was in the Army reserves during the 80's and used the pistol belt and suspenders, with 2 canteens, a butt pack with poncho. I had everything I needed for several days at all times.

While I'd never carry half the stuff you pack, that's my personal preference, I appreciate you showing people your choice items. One thing I'm noticing with these edc/bob/bug videos... They're too long or waste too much time. It really didn't require 4minutes just to get to your items... perhaps I'm part of the "I NEED IT NOW" generation, but honestly, we're back-packers, campers etc... we know what this stuff is for, just show us what you have. No hard feelings mate!

We had to follow SOP in the 2MARDIV in the late 70s early 80s w the ALICE set up- two 3 mag ammo pouches, one on either side the buckle, E tool on left hip, gas mask bag on leg or chest, canteen with Gas mask cap on left hip, on center of back went the IFAK,then the second canteen w/cup, next bayonet or knife (or holster) then a pistol ammo pouch if so armed. everybody same same and it gave you your fighting load, hanging on the harness over your armor. No butt pack, everything else went into the medium ALICE pack, w/o frame.

The Ka-Bar is a mass production knife and probably fine for the weekend warrior (who probably will not be splitting logs hitting theirs with a 2 x 4) :) Custom knives are a far better choice except then, price becomes a consideration Tops knives makes some good knives Ty Goo makes nice customs There are a bunch out there (they can get pretty pricey) peace :)
@yeehaw94
@yeehaw94 14 лет назад
Listen guys. ANY knife can and will break if used hard enough. The bottom line is Ka Bars are good knives for the price and yes the tang extends through the handle and pommel and is pinned to the pommel.

Which is really better, a load bearing platform or a back pack / ruck kit? It seems like a load bearing setup would be more comfortable to travel with but a backpack kind of a thing would be quicker to grab. My question would be, what about a tactical vest plus battle belt? Would that be the best of both worlds? Also, in survival situations, appearances don't matter but in a bug out / urban unrest type situation, I'm told you don't want to look like a militant or survivalist. Thoughts?

@SPCkeith
@SPCkeith 14 лет назад
nope i use a gi tanto and a bowie spike. the tanto is perfect for chopping and will not brake like a kabar could (kabars do not have a full tang) and the spike is great for skinning and gutting. its a good combo for 40 bucks and i would rather carry 2 grate knifes vs one so so one for the tasks at hand. a bit unorthodox but works great in my opinion. and the weight is not an issue the spike is like 4 Oz. and the tanto isn't much more if any then a kabar or anything.

17LBS!!! Holy Sh__!! As soon as you stop "hiking" you are taking that off to rest. It now becomes worthless as soon as you take it off. So many hikers leave their heavy bag behind..... just to take a walk, go look around a bend, find water, etc. Then they are screwed.
@jamesaritchie2
@jamesaritchie2 8 лет назад
+Dan Wesson By that "logic", a backpack is also worthless. This really isn't about hikers, it's about a seventy-two hour bugout. It's not the same thing. You don't walk off and leave gear under such circumstances, though there's nothing wrong with stashing gear for a scout. It's essential under bugout conditions.
