Here is a description of my Alice pack Bug out Bag or 72 hour pack. I plan on buggin in, however you never know when you may have to leave your house for things such as wildfires, hazardous material spills, natural disasters or other man made disasters. I am always changing and upgrading my pack, contents and setups. I have used the Alice pack for years as well as many other packs, I keep returning to the Alice pack as my pack of choice due to its versatality.
I have slightly modified my pack to make it more comfortable by using the Molle II straps and hip belt. I have also added the Molle II Modular Sleep System Carrier for my sleeping gear.
I use this pack for other things as well such as for Civil Air Patrol extended missions, 2-5 day trips, and some overnight trips. Depending on what I will be doing is how I will load it out.

I have the MSS also and the green patrol bag is more like a 40 degree bag.

Thank you for being the first prepper I've seen on RU-vid who condenses his MRE's by opening up the main bag, and stripping out all the useless cardboard each meal component is wrapped in.

Good deal. Two notes about MREs, though. 1> You can save a lot of space on MREs if you remove the outer bag. 2> However, they do not store quite as long. Not important if you're already on the move, but the outer pouch does slightly increase the shelf-life.

Got a brand new large A.L.I.C.E. GI issue from ammo can man and added the frame so for about $100 I got a NEW GI markings pack added the military issue e-tool with a military knife/bayonet that has Alice pack clips to attach. LOVE IT!!! Brings me back to the USMC days.

I also custom made a frame from PVC and extended the bottom, added a shelf to fit my tent and sleeping bag, also a travel hammock, I also wrapped and made webbing on the shelf with parachord in a jam I made it to where I can still undo it for extra rope

They attach just like the alice do. The alice pack has attachment points, you just feed the molle straps through the attachment point. The straps, sleep carrier and hip belt are a different story. They take a bit on rigging but will fit fine if done properly.

Thanks for the comment. I too have a CFP90, that I used a few times and found it to be too big, and I bought a Blackhawk Patrol pack as well, but sold it to a friend because I didnt use it. I will however use the cfp90 in winter occassionally.

One thing you might want to add is x-lax (unless I missed it in the vid) 'cause those MREs will stop you up quick. Plus if you're an old gunney like myself, you HAVE to pack your daily meds also..........hell getting near 60, let me tell you. Thanks for the vid my friend, good info.

I'm wrapping up my freshman year of highschool and I've been using a ALICE pack to hold all of my gear so I don't waste time having to go to my locker which is on the third floor and most of my classes are on the first floor. the other reason why is because one of my MCJROTC buddies also uses one. you don't want to use the Japanese made ALICE pack cause they will just fall apart. so you're going to want to get the US made ones

I took the assault pack off the CFP90 and placed it on my lg alice pack. this makes for a great scouting bag after you set up camp,Plus it gives Woodland Camo to the packs back. And of course the molle shoulder straps and kidney belt. Plus do a paracord grab handle double thick.

I reccomend getting a knife for and spoon combonation. They started using them in the civil war its a spoon with a fork on the other and and a knife piece that locks into the fork side covering any sharp ends. I have one and it works great!

@ToastAndSausage I don't know about the alice pack featured in the video, but mine definitely isn't, assuming it ever was. That's why you're issued drysacks to stick inside the main compartment. I suppose you could also find smaller waterproof pouches to stick inside the three external compartments. You can somewhat improve the waterproofing of the pack itself by using the right Nikwax product on the outside of the pack, but it will eventually wear off after a while.
@Skills2survive

I have thought about that. I will try it out. Thanks for watching

Those things are tough as hell. Used to live out of them for months at a time. My modern pack leaves a bit to be desired. That bitch "Alice", stands up on its butt making for easy access with the L frame and makes a decent chair back. The newer packs just roll and flop around like a dead fish. If you use it for a chair back or try and stand it upright it will either fall over or get mudded/sticker'd up in the wrong places. With a winter bag hanger the Alice is a bit more to struggle.
@Skills2survive
@Skills2survive 14 лет назад
@nroc13 Medium is what I would go with, however the frame is the same size for the Medium and large. However if you are shorter, I wouldnt want to get the bigger pack and load it down only to find out that you cant carry it good. So i would go with the medium.

@irishgotee You can, however I have never done that. I put all of my stuff in plastic bags. They make a waterproof liner for the Alice packs. You can usually find them for a few dollars online.

I have a large ALICE pack. The guy from Mystery Ranch says they have one that is twice as big but it is $600. I got a waterproof liner for my ALICE PACK. I looked at a smaller Mystery Ranch and it was very well made, it appeared. My theory is fill it up, bug out and start shedding excess.

That philosophy is close to mine....buggin' in, but ready to leave if neccessary. I have a feelin I may return to the ALICE if I can get ahold of those MOLLE straps. The extra padding was one reason I upgraded to a MOLLE-style pack...but it didn't have a frame, which is a real downer :/

@airsoftsurvivalman12 The "mini" packs are small. They would be ok for a day I would think. Personally, I would go with the medium and not fill it as full if you can.

@nroc13 If you bought EVERYTHING in that pack, including the molle modifications and all the gear, it would probably run you several hundred dollars. I bought stuff and pieced it together over the years. I am always adding and subtracting items as needed.

@irishgotee WOW !!! $250 for a frame for an Alice Pack?? Thats ridiculous ! I would like to see that, do you have a link? The frame the pack comes with is ok, you can drill out the rivots and put in screws with locking washes and nuts and it holds up better. There also used to be some plastic type frames out there for them, but I dont think they make them anymore.

I love your ALICE hellcat rucksack! I was thinking of doing this, but its cheaper to just buy a molle 2 woodland rucksack. The one where the main pack and sleep system carrier are on the same bag. Just like the newer ACU and Multi-Cam rucksacks. I don't want to spend $50 on the alice, plus more on the molle shoulder straps, molle waist belt, molle sleep system and than the fast snaps.
@Skills2survive
@Skills2survive 9 лет назад
I had the MOLLE ruck and didn't like it, so I went back to the Alice and just used the parts. You can find Alice packs pretty cheap.
@phillyphilhouse79
@phillyphilhouse79 9 лет назад
Skills2Survive They've got a few around here in my area. I was stuck on the decision of either buying the molle with the sleep system and main pack being one bag generation rucksack or the medium alice. I hated the first generation molle when it came out. I was like "Oh no! Now they're going to make us carry MORE shit!" I thought I hated the alice pack. I just need a good enough pack to carry the issued sleeping bag kit, small pup tent, spare clothes, wet weather gear, poncho and poncho liner, tools, mre's and fire starting gear. The molle does have its advantages but feel it may be just a little too big for a bug out bag. So I go back to the idea of just buying the ALICE and getting the molle shoulder straps, molle waist belt, molle sleep system and quick release buckles.
@Skills2survive
@Skills2survive 9 лет назад

Skills2Survive I've got three 72 hour Blackhawk bags I bought when I was in Iraq. One of them didn't last very long. And the first one was outdated after a few years. The one with the stupid ACU pattern was the one that outlived them all. Go figure. I hated that camo pattern. For the price I just may get the ALICE ruck. It will be $60 less than the molle ruck I want. But it does come with a few more molle pouches that I could use.

Anybody else find that they can only fit an MRE in one of the pouches? Mine was messed up a little bit during manufacturing, so the side pouches are just barely too small to fit an MRE, but the middle one doesn't have any trouble fitting one at all.

Yeah, I'm probably going to break the MRE's up and keep meals in one pouch, heaters in another and so on. I was just wondering if it might be a common problem. With so many having been made, of course there's going to be a hiccup now and then.
