➡ ABOUT ME
My name is Crosby and I'm a solo traveler, digital nomad, and full-time traveler! After a few corporate jobs throughout college, I quickly realized that the 9-5 lifestyle wasn’t for me. So in 2019, I took the leap into the freelance world and started traveling the world full-time - from solo traveling Mexico to road tripping Portugal to living in a travel trailer, I'm absolutely addicted to this lifestyle. I just finished up traveling solo around Indonesia and documenting everything here on RU-vid!

Not so much crime as people say on the media eh? Yea, it’s an agenda folks! As a Chicago native, Chicago like any city has bad parts which anyone smart enough would know to not go there. It doesn’t mean Chicago is entirely bad, so don’t be fooled by media! It’s a lovely city, which deep rich history! Our food is amazing, the lakefront, the view, it’s amazing!

Chicago is easily one of the top ten greatest cities in the world. I've lived in 20 great cities but by far Chicago tops them all. Oprah was correct when she said if Chicago winters weren't so tough everyone would want to live here. Personally I don't mind the winters but if you've never experienced snow then you might be too delicate for the Windy City, especially in February.

Totally agree. I have lived in many cities in US and a few in Europe and Asia. The common pattern is the hype of a place always exceeds the reality by a big margin and I was shocked when I first visited Chicago since it is the only place where I find it to be quite the opposite. I enjoy NYC however Chicago is my favorite too by far.

A few years ago, I went on midtour leave from my deployment, I really didn't have anywhere to go so I bought a ticket to Chicago and just hung out for two weeks. I loved the city so much I ended up moving here after the military. I have been here for about two years now and I still love this city so much. I live in the Old Town/Gold Coast area not too far fromt that FoxTrots at 12:34. I definitely think this will be home for quite some time. I glad you all had a good time in the city, it is truly one of the most beautiful cities in America.

One detail about Chicago that even locals miss out on: Chicago has a large number of tiny museums covering incredibly obscure topics.

So true. All kinds of interesting places that you can do in an hour or two. The big museums here are world-class, but as such they are huge and could take you days each to fully explore. But the little ones are true gems, and let you explore regular Chicago neighborhoods, which are often overlooked by travelers with limited time.

How can you spend 3 days in Chicago and miss the Art Institute, one of the greatest art museums in the world? It is like going to Paris and not visiting Le Louvre... I spent a few years in Chicago, and the highlight for me (beside meeting my future wife) was the cultural life, in particular music. Jazz, Blues, Classical, Opera, the Ravinia festival in the summer, it is the place where to live if you are a music fan.

@@kurtsalm2155 It is not a question of seeing everything. In any large city in the world, there are places that cannot be overlooked and should be number one on the priority list. Would you visit Cairo for the first time and skip the pyramids, Athens and skip the Acropolis, or Florence and skip the Duomo and Ponte vecchio? In the meantime, you can find Starbucks and Pizzerias everywhere. Of course, different people have different priorities, I totally get that.

So glad you loved it. I grew up in the burbs and have lived in the city for almost 6 years now. The fear mongering on the news is crazy, especially when you see what the city is really like. There are rich and poor areas, there’s segregation, and there’s mismanagement, but it’s a pretty amazing city overall. Gives you 90% of the NYC experience for 50% of the price. Plus the lakefront!!

Two tips for your next trip back. Take the Architecture Cruise out of Navy Pier. You get a good view and history lesson of the city. And go to the top of the John Hancock building for dinner or a cocktail at the Signature Room for a great view of the city.
@davidw7
@davidw7 7 месяцев назад
The Signature room just closed abruptly and not to reopen citing severe economic hardship that did not have enough business to return even since C*vid. Perhaps a drinks bar that opened at the 360 observation deck that is just above it on the 94th floor to view the city from above did not help.... though you pay a feet to go to that floor with discounted citypass tickets worth it for multiple city attractions for tourist. Perhaps someone else will reopen the cocktail lounge again that housed the Signature room in the future? Time will tell as so many other places like rooftop ones today to compete with.

This was amazing! Glad you loved the city. I'll admit I laughed when you said you biked down Lake Shore Drive. Lake Shore Drive is the highway, but the Lake Shore Path is the pedestrian area next to it. Also, I'll admit the Bean is just... the Bean, but people seem to love taking pictures of it! It's reflective, so people take pictures of themselves with distorted faces, but I'll admit the skyline reflected off of it is gorgeous! Safe travels to Alaska and looking forward to your next Chicago video!

Chicago is better than NYC in my opinion-spent lots of time in both places. That said, some people like the different energy. Both cities are amazing, but Chicago wins for livability and nature. The city actually protects its lakefront from greedy developers. That’s a costly endeavor, but worth it for the people.

Andersonville is super cool now though, they've been up and coming for some time, known for being the girl version of Boystown. They're a bit far northeast from that Rockwell station though. Near Rockwell is Lincoln Square, a hidden little gem in the city with a small town feel hiding inside a big city. Great video though, it's great seeing tourist enjoy this city.

Also visit the top floors of the Willis Tower (aka Sears Tower) and the Hancock Building! There's also quirky little tours like the Gangster tour that covers Al Capone and John Dillinger. I moved here from a smaller city where I would go to a concert every weekend, but in Chicago I would get so frustrated because there would be multiple concerts on any given night that I would have to choose who I wanted to see/hear more!

While you were at the Cubs game, it would’ve been a perfect time to have a real Chicago dog but I’m glad you enjoyed your veggie dog! hope to see you back in Chicago. Have a great Alaskan cruise. That’s another wonderful thing to do and wonderful sites of people you’ll be coming across on that.

So many fun things to do in Chicago ❤ Great architectures, Historical land marks, Delicious food 🤤 Museums, Beaches what not. Definitely one of the best cities in The USA. Of course it has its own challenges same like any other city.

I’m so glad you had fun in Chicago! And thank you for recommending that magic AI tool. I just popped on there with some parameters and it gave me an awesome itinerary for Cape Town South Africa, where we are planning to go this summer. I can tell I’m gonna be using this a lot :-)

I lived a long time in Chicago only a half block away from Wrigley Field. But that was in the 60s and it was nice to see your video, since lots has change in Chicago.

You picked some really good things to do for your visit. I would have traded Navy Pier for The Art Institute though. I didn't see you have an Italian Beef sandwich either. I think Al's Beef is the best but there are many Portillo's fans that would strongly disagree with me but I also prefer Giordanno's over Lou Malnati's. Also I don't know what that thing was that he was eating at Wrigley Field but it wasn't a Chicago hotdog. I hope that wasn't ketchup on it. 🤨

Agree Al's beef is the best, but only the one by UIC/Little Italy is the only one I would go to. Portillo's is just easy to order from.

@@ryanjones2596 I've never been to the Al's Beef in Little Italy. I did briefly work around there many years ago and I used to go to Fontano's for a spicy sub though.

Born and raised Chicagoan.....a GREAT site seeing thing to do is to take a water taxi. You get to see a lot without being on a traditional tour.

Grace, you've probably heard by now that CTA = Chicago Transit Authority, which is the company which runs/manages the "L", which is short for "elevated (train)". I agree with your assessment of the architecture tour. I took it several years ago. Wells St. is in The Loop (the downtown area which is surrounded by the "L" tracks,, but the main intersection is State and Madison.

Remember beautiful memories as a kid being in Chicago's front yard park in 68-69 and looking at the impressive skyline that was so much smaller like Boston . Grant park is a great place at dusk to be in the summertime, listening to a free concert outdoors. 14:09

I use to live in Chicago for three years. The only problem I have with your trip is it's very touristy. I would of have loved for your to do more locals things to do. However, I'm very glad you got a chance to see that sunset and it's awesome you had a great time. You guys really luck out with the weather!
