I ran American Deiselectric loco cranes in a steel mill for many years. To be able to disassemble a steam locomotive with a steam crane would be a day in heaven for me! Bravo!
That is some interesting cribbing, considering the load sitting on it. I wouldn't be overly impressed working on it, hoping it's not going to tip over.
Very good video , love the Cowan Sheldon stem crane in action . My late father made a replica in O gauge so nice to see the real thing in action again .
Did you have to put some sort of block(s) where the springs on the trucks of the steam crane are so it doesn't squat when you're lifting heavy loads? Thanks. Beautiful piece of history.
The outriggers that you see at the start of the video stick out from the chassis and effectively mean that the crane is not bearing on its trucks during a lift. Only a very light straight lift would be contemplated without the outriggers.
