I find it the most entertaining when it's either a very hard lock like this or the very easy locks followed by a small rant about master locks

Not an avid lock picker but have picked for about a week now. I work in a steel mill in PA so we have lots of old locks to try and learn on. Love the videos. It's the reason I started. Thanks for your hard work and great videos. Keep up the good work.

@rexterrocks

That was brilliantly picked. It reminds me of a surgeon working on a patient :-) I enjoy picking and bypassing locks. I buy them mainly, but they aren't anything like as tough to beat as the locks you pick. .I have learnt such a lot from these videos. It's great getting an autopsy. This one has really puzzled me. I understand how a basic lock works and know how picking pins works . Now I can see how a' pin in pin' works but I can't imagine how to pick pins like that. Great to watch as always

Just found this channel. I picked for a couple years 30 years ago in college. I got the MIT lockpickers guide off a BBS. Made my own tools out of nails and sweeper blades. Good fun. Lost interest when didn’t have to break into the laundry room to do late night washing.

Impressive work on that lock and on the picking. Don't know why I didn't think to use MTL pins. Bill if the lock is still gutted check to see if those inner MTL pins have the grove and if the outer have the counter milling.

You gotta shim it with the pins dowN! Use a pick, slip the shim in from the back as you move the pins up and down. You can't shim a picked lock. Well, I suppose you can, just not this one! :) Oh, I suppose you can try and shim WITH the key, too... hah! Love the video. Great work. I really envy your picking skills. Nicely done.
@butre.
@butre. 9 лет назад
I think that spool went with the last pin, not the pin in pin one. since the pin in pin is oversize if you were working against a spool either you could just cram it up as hard as you could and not stop until you hit the cylinder or the spool would just flop around loosely in there

+bosnianbill Another great vid as always, your videos are an inspiration to all of us. But about these unbelievably awesome intros; either you do them, or someone else does. We are all very impressed with them and you've been asked over and over who does them but you seem unwilling to tell. Why the secrecy? C'mon, we're family, you could either tell us, or explain why you don't. How about it?

The way the Assa locks are usually fitted, the cylinder is only held in place by two brass screws threaded into the back of it. This makes picking unnecessary as you can just grab onto the cylinder with a spanner or pipe wrench and give it a twist. This snaps the brass screws and the door is open. If you want to cover your tracks the screws are easily replaced. This exploit can be prevented by using a lock face that ties the cylinder part into the handle part.

Hey Bill, maybe for a "christmas special" You will make something different that picking a lock, but something like "The making of a challenge lock"? I really appreciate your videos. There are lots of picking videos out there - with no commentary! You tell us what you're doing, which makes all the difference. I know everyone has a different talent level, but ballpark, what kind of time does it take to develop such an incredible level of skill? About how many hours a week do you spend picking? Thanks again for the great quality videos.

@rallock67
@rallock67 9 лет назад
Those pin-in-pin are better than the one in a ASSA I got. The lock didn't have a key so not even sure it would work with a key. Anyway the cylinder had very little movement and than it had none at all. The pin-in-pin in it had wedged at the shearline and due to the serrations was "screwed" in so the plug was truly locked. I spent about ten minutes getting that pin out. If you make pin-in-pins be sure the outer pin isn't to thin or it will distort and make the lock unpickable
@rallock67
@rallock67 9 лет назад
+bobwatters There are much easier ways to do that though LOL I have used a master wafers and inverted Chrysler top pins-looks like a "T" pin to make a lock "pick proof" by drilling holes opposite the construction ball holes. You'd have to get really lucky to get all five picked to the correct shearline to not lock the plug up

Hey Bill. I really enjoy watching your videos but I don't know all the terminology used. do you have a video about the different types of pins? what is the advantage if a spooled, Christmas tree or pin in pin vs a standard pin? or explains what a false set is? Do you have any experience with this? :I have a lock that in order to turn the key, you have to press the key against the lock and move the entire barrel with it a little bit, i have found this on many doors, i am not sure if its a feature or a mistake but i cant pick any of these because you cannot turn it without pressing against it and i havent found a way to do that with a pick. help? it is a standart looking european FAB lock

I tried both Sparrows and Peterson, as well as ebay and a google search looking for a pinning tray like the one you use. I can not find them anywhere. All I am finding are large, complicated trays that have way more spots and slots than I could ever need. Any hints on where to find one like yours?
@themadmagi

+Justin Updyke I believe Bill 3D printed his tray. If you google bosnianbill and 3d print you should be able to find them. He uploads the plans for people to be able to use. I don't have a 3D printer, so I do not know the address.

My screaming at the monitor didn't help as I watched the cylinder move in and out. Then you got it. *palm hits forehead* I'd suggest you get that gnarly looking shim all the way in before touching the follower but you seem to be doing fine without me. Of course by the time you got the cursed C clip off you were probably ready to toss it across the room. Dang good manipulation. Missing drivers can be a huge buzz kill.
