Southwest Airlines flight 855 from Chicago-Midway to Denver. Flying in a brand new (reinstated) 737MAX 8. Beautiful quiet engines, comparable to the new LEAP engines on the A32X-NEO.
At 0:06 it almost looks like you’re actually standing on the runway. I remember getting a great picture like that! 😊 At 4:27 That’s a beautiful view! You really got the best view in the house! 😊
Midway Airport is a bit of a throwback. It's very small, the entire airfield is about 1 square mile so planes have pretty much no margin for error taking off and landing. Crazy that this was the world's busiest airport from the 1930's to the 60's
Highlighted at 7:18 is the Yorktown Center Mall not far from where I-355 was built to replace Rt 53, circa late 1980s (Except the new route had to pass to the east of the Morton Arboretum and preserves). Nice views in this video.
This is interesting. I have a bunch of take-off and landing videos that I have recorded over the years, and I've often wondered if people would watch them if I posted them on YT. Based on the number of views this video has had in a year, I guess the answer is "yes." Nice video, btw! Great views.
yea the hum of those turbofans are the most relaxing aspect of the flight IMHO although I have to admit, those NG turbo fans on this flight 855 sounded louder than usual. I was on two 737-700s from Dallas to PHX and they did not sound that loud during the entire flight...
I can tell that's not full power by the sound. At full 26,000 lbs of thrust, the pitch of the sound would be quite a bit higher. That sounds like the pilots elected to use the 22,000 lb de-rate option.
It seems to me that was a fairly quick, short take off run as it was. I'm supposing they had pretty easy numbers for that takeoff so maybe they could get away with a lower power setting.
7:55 you can see the larger of the two Chicago airports! O'Hare International! With 8 strips, O'Hare apparently has the most runways of all the airports in the United States.
Yep. Credit that to not just the ATC that vector the planes, but the procedure designers who craft departure and arrival procedures to ensure no two aircraft come close to each other.
You zoomed a close up of a rather large yard with what looked like a crowd of people just standing around, it wasn't any recognizable sports facility, so what was it, a prison? Was it Cook County Jail? Signed: Just wondering.
I believe it was row 4 or 5. Typically by row 8 you’re too close to the center of the aircraft to get a good view of the engines. I always aim for row 4 in either Boeing or Airbus.
I'm no pilot, but I have watched a lot of pilots on YT. (That's probably a lot of us here, lol 🙂)They may have had a momentary speed or altitude hold on their way higher causing them to cut back power for a bit. The airframe noise picked up around the time power was scaled back so perhaps they cut their climb waiting to be cleared higher and airspeed built up close to the speed limit for the airspace. The camera was zoomed in on the horizon when power came back up and it looked like the plane pitched up some at that point, suggesting they were cleared higher.
Delta flys sport charter's using 757-200 models from Midway, and ATA when in business flew not only the 757-200 but also the super long and stretched 757-300!
Many takeoff's, specifically on longer runways, are de-rated (less than full power). Midway usually requires full power regardless. Every turbofan engine will buzz if the RPM of the fan is at the right speed. To me, it's surprising the buzz sounds very similar to the CFM56. The buzz is at the same hertz at the engines rev's per second.
That's definitely the ORD runway layout. At this point in the video, MDW would be behind and to the left, not visible from the right side of the aircraft.
The engines are a good reference point for the MAX vs NG. These engines were considerably larger and had the raked edges on the rear edge. As well as the safety cards in the seat pockets reading “737MAX”. The ambient lighting inside was also pretty cool (blueish lights). Unfortunately I didn’t include the videos and pictures of this in this RU-vid video. But trust me, it’s the MAX! 🤩 Compare the takeoff sound and engine size with this -800 takeoff! Pretty cool stuff! ✈️ ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-VVhYJp3ZtMQ.html
