Paul Cotton was a main songwriter and guitarist of Poco. He passed 3 months after Rusty Young. Richie played w them for years. They recorded some beautiful songs. I recall the 1st time I heard Crazy Eyes decades ago. Richie's voice is something else

to me personally, the best part of Lelands videos is the inside knowledge and stories this veteran player brings to us. Any bass playing is just a bonus. Keep on doing exactly what your doing Lee your vids are great. To those that want Lee to just play bass, if you listen to him talk you just might learn something!. ( from Wellington New Zealand)

Absolutely! If people want to see bass players there are plenty of other RU-vid channels, but only Leland has the experience and pedigree to give us all the stories. Just listening to him talk is great.

@Paul Clarke, Ah ha, a fellow wellingtonian though I'm up the coast a bit, before that lived in the city for 39 yrs. I'm With you there Paul and your comments, I've learnt so much just listening to the stories and also trawling back through all my albums and CDs and having a good hard listen to the bass parts. I first encounterd Lees name on a record way back in '70 along with Russ, Kootch, Waddy and a whole host of other great musicisians. I am not at all surprised that he's played on so many of the discs that I have. 👍

There are enough videos on this channel where he IS playing the bass. Watch those. I’m very thankful that he is still doing this. Just do want YOU want, lee. 👍🏻 ignore those selfish bastards.

I saw him several years ago w Neil Young and Stills in Oakland. All 3 are great but everybody was so enthusiastic when Richie sang his songs. His voice is so beautiful and never fails. Saw him a few times years ago w Poco. Now w Paul Cotton and Rusty Young having passed there's not much left of Poco. Btw some of the Oakland show is on utube and very well done

Gotta warn ya Leland, it's Mr.Poco Fanatic Doug up here in Green Bay, WI. Here we go. First time I heard Richie's guitar (Gibson electric 12-string) on Stephen Stills " Bluebird" from Buffalo Springfield Again", I thought this guy is different. Last Time Around was The Springfield's final and last recording and it was Fantastic!!! The song Questions came on and I said, " That's Richie Furay's 12-string electric! Wow!! Another Steve Stills masterpiece. " Pretty Girl Why" was hypnotizing. Fast forward------ Messina replaced Palmer(immigration issues) and then Poco was born only after Richie and Jimmie decided they wanted a steel guitar on "Kind Woman" and recruited Rusty Young from Colorado. Got him out there, cut the song and Rusty knew a drummer from back home and got George Grantham. Got Randy Meisner for bass and Poco was born. That was it for me. I've never heard vocals like that before in my life. Randy splits, Timothy B. is in. Jimmie exits, Paul Cottons in. That band was so Explosive in concert, kinda was caught with my mouth open. Crazy Eyes came right around after the death of Gram Parsons. I believe one of Richie's masterpieces was and still is the title track "Crazy Eyes". Richie got anxious and split, but the other 4 kept things chugging for many hard working years, mostly on the road, hit the studio, and then, back on the road. Leland? 4 songs from "I Still Have Dreams". Thank you, Thank you and Thank you. Like I say about extraordinary singers/composers/musicians that sound like no one else in the world. Richies right near the top. Val Garay knew how to organize you guys on this album. Superb Professionalism at it's Best. Richie knew exactly who he wanted on this album. That voice, sureal. I'll leave you alone, but I could probabley write for another couple hours. Rest in Peace Paul Cotton and Rusty Young. The heart of Poco after Richie pursued other things. Again, Thanks Leland. This album is played often in this home and still makes me shake my head when I hear those vocals and harmonies, and the band is "PHENOMENAL!!!". Sleep well Leland. Doug

To those who are complaining about the lack of playing: Do you do your jobs for free? As much as Lee loves his job playing bass, and it might not feel like a job for him, it is still his job. He's giving us his time for free. Realize that the insight he gives on the non-playing videos goes way beyond the mechanics of playing. I love Lee's playing as much as anyone, but I also love the stories as they allow me to appreciate these songs from another perspective. There are a million cover/play-through channels this isn't that. Thanks for all you do, Lee! There are few better ways to start my next lap around the sun than with a Lee Sklar video. (Playing or non-playing.)

Oh for goodness sakes! Play when you have the time to do it and feel good about it. It was one thing when you were fairly fresh off the tour and could play the set; quite another to go back to a song you haven't thought about for 10, 20, 30!, 40!!, or 50!!! years ago!!! Good grief! Some people. Richie Furay--what a resume! I recognize that voice, but I'd never have been able to place it just hearing it. Looking forward to the Clubhouse field trip today. Hope you can talk the guys into stopping by to say "Hi!" Stay safe and stay well!

When you play music from the 70´s, it´s allways a special sound from them. I don´t know if it is the studio or the console, but it´s a really nice sound. Warm and nice. I get that feeling when i see "Cheers". It´s from 1982 and the theme from Gary Portnoy. It is so close to the that 70´s sound. Analoge sound at it´s best.

I have a good number of your videos to watch yet, but they are far better than anything on TV or the big screen. Thanks for sharing this album of Richie's. I bought it back in '79 and have several Furay albums along with an autographed copy of the book he published a few years ago. I had forgotten the great engineering on this LP. A few years ago I gave my wife a little more of the living room by selling and giving away my 800 LP's and hi-fi gear. My main music sources now are an iPod and Pandora with some good headphones. Stay well and thanks for all the hard work to share the music, the memories and the good news of what you are creating today. Oh! I also have to ask if you ever worked or just jammed with Max Bennett or Chad Watson? Max was from my hometown of Oskaloosa, Iowa. I met Chad in 1974 when his band was playing in Iowa. He told a member of my band he was looking for a Les Paul and I just happened to have one that too heavy for me. We did a guitar swap. My '72 Les Paul for his '63 Strat.

@@lastnamefirst4035: Agreed. But I also blame those people who are still sending money into these folks. That's a two-way street of idiocy for me.

@@stevedrums1675 I know. Hard to believe there's alot of stupid people. PR owns diamond mines and seems about as far from christianity as one can get. Funny really

👍👍 Particularly liked the sound of the third piece. Back before Covid (summer 2019) Poco played in the area on a triple bill with America and Firefall. I don't want to go back and check, but I think it may be the case that the "play bass" people are not regulars. One could point out to them that there are way over 700 videos, and if they'd like to watch bass technique they could look for one of the many, many videos in which you are playing. (I think the "old dude" business just sounds like trolling).

To the SIlly Folks asking Lee to Just PLAY BASS...........GROW UP!!!!!!!!!!! This is LEE's Channel and the MAJORITY of GREAT FOLKS who are subscribed(WHICH IS 99.99% of us) we like when LEE just hangs with us just as much as when he plays......BUT on LEE's CHANNEL it is LEE's CALL and that is what makes his channel(AS LEE put's it......OUR channel) AWESOME! If LEE plays he plays......If he listens with us it is like a Music educational class. Lee will mention a specific instrument in a song or why something happened in the song or who played that part in a song or what happened in the studio the day of or walking into that day.....not all the time but Lee always Pre or post song adds great info here and there and Most(99.99% of US LOVE it that way). LEE is one of us when he hangs and listen's. BE PATIENT and listen more when LEE is listening with us.......he will add a little something sometimes and sometimes he is a fan boy like us with him. THAT is what makes this GREAT! IF YOU DO NOT LIKE IT there are plenty of other channels to go to......ENJOY and be safe!!!!!! No offense meant but just move on. No Frets!
