Great effort Andy 👍 . I ran 1hr 30mins 52secs . A pb , 1min quicker than 3yrs ago with good energy at the end . Great prep for Boston in a couple of weeks time. Raising money for Hospice of the valleys along the way 👍🏃♀️
Yes mate! PB! I think it's quite good to have beaten your best and still feel there's more in the tank! Running into a wind is less than ideal, too. Good job, bank it all for the next one!
Imagine my day in Australia for a minute Andy.... 4km easy run this morning...... Brekkie, shower, change, work...... and hanging out for the recap 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Cracking PB!!
Congratulations Andy 👏 You may or may not remember but I am a local Cardiff lad that was in two minds over whether to go Alphafly or Vaporfly. Did a fast 10k on Friday evening in my Vaporfly's and compared run stats and figured out that I was approximately 8 seconds per mile quicker in the Vaporfly. Confidence was also a factor as I know that I PB'd the Bristol half and Newport 10k in them. I got an official PB of 01:50:18. 03:50 off my Bristol time. I did do a virtual half of 1hr 48m in November with my Tempo next%. But that was before my sciatic nerve injury in my left foot. By the way it's Roath park and not Bute park 😉 Bute park is by Cardiff Castle. I live 2 miles from Roath park and it's part of my regular route. That incline hit me too but seeing my family by the wild gardens pushed me on.
Ah yes I remember! Wow brilliant PB time well done, what a buzz to get a PB!! Yes I have no idea why I said Bute park when I know its roath lake!! I love the support up there despite the hill, the nursing home residents always come out to cheer and I always make sure I give them a wave!
Well Done Andy! I do agree being in the pain cave is fun, maybe not so much during the race but once you finish and see that you were capable to continue and get a PB it is an ace feeling.
Congrats Andy, tremendous run and time when you consider the conditions and how you felt there was a little more in there, exciting possibilities from here 🙌👏
Hi Andy, it is Roath Park and not Bute Park, that you go up and around. It is a long old hill which is definitely draining, especially at that point in the race.
Congrats Andy for a new PB. Course looks challenging with those hills but getting those vibes from the people must have been a blast. Very close to 15k subs too, yay!
Thats a great effort. I PB'd at Cardiff too, but I am fairly new to running and coming up 50 so my target was a modest 99 mins or better, that ramp at the end nearly put pay to that, but all worked out and I came in under my target. Your Bute/Roath park mix-up did make me chuckle as Bute is right at the start and if it had gone pear shape for you by then, you were in for a really long day 🤣 awesome run though. congrats
Well done Andy, great time. The last time I raced Cardiff was for my first marathon there in 2006. It finished with a lap inside the Millenium Stadium!
Great result, the course looks challenging with the elevation 2nd half and nobody enjoys wind 🌬 🏃♂️. Congrats on PB very consistent pacing. The right profile course and easily sub 75 shape. Definitely seeing improvement and more controlled running.
Andy big congrats. What an effort. That hill in the last part looked mean! I am a tall guy and wind and hills are my achilles hill, it hurted watching haha.
Thank you! No not yet but I know alot of people have and they love it! The only danger is a) it’s the height of summer so usually very hot and b) it’s last 6 miles is back along the coast path so can be quite windu
Great channel! I’ve just done Manchester marathon and got a big PB but now am wondering how much better I can get so have subscribed. One question, when do you decide when to wear your club vest? I wore mine for my race but am not a huge fan of the fit so would rather wear something I am more comfortable with but am not sure if it’s a big no no.
Thank you! And well done on the PB 👏 our club vest fit is horrible, it’s like a belly top on me and it’s super thick so I only wear it in the winter, any sort of heat and it gets heavy with sweat so I rarely use it through spring/summer/autumn!
Congratulations for you new PB ! Awesome 👏🏻. What shoes do you prefer for half ? Alpha o vaporfly I have both but I have only tested the alphafly for Maraton not half
Well done 👍, it’s nice when everything comes together. I ran the Weston Super Half Sunday, smashing my PB. I thought I was running too fast but for some reason I could maintain it, felt good. Still amazed how I did it tho. Cardiff is on my bucket list.
Great run.Find a flat course and you'll nail the time you want . Look forward to seeing how much your target changes over the year....I think bit letting the 2nd lady get away next time is a good target 😉
Well done 👏, tough course and conditions I ran 1.16.19 and suffered from mile 4. I went through 5k in 16.57 but then completely lost it. Credit to you, defo in sub 1.15 shape if you can run that close on that course and those conditions. My fitness isn't what it was in January but a great weekend and Cardiff is class well worth the 5hour journey 👍
Oh wow well done, we must of run with each other at some point then if we were that close in time! Quality result well done, i'm sure you'll agree the conditions weren't ideal were they! But always worth the journey for that race!! well done!
@@TheFODRunner yeah it wasn't easy, I didn't notice you and I've followed you for awhile mind I suffered so probs had my head down when you flew past me haha
Congrats on the PB, Andy. Couple of observations. You ran this PB coming off a speed block. This differed to your Canova style build up in 2021 when you ran well, but not this well. Do you think the speed style training works better for you? Secondly, you ran in Alpha's. Would you now conclude these are your (and possible for everyone else too) best racers?
Thanks! So the canova work was geared up for the marathon, I was in marathon training mode, this speed block was geared up for 10k training so if anything, in theory the canova should of been better…. I just found the raw speed thah I’d been working on helped me feel stronger throughout… but don’t forget training is an accumulation so I can’t just attribute it to that specific block. Alphas for me now are number one, I absolutely love them , everyone’s different but they just work so well for me!
Just a heads up that the Vaporfly Next% 1 is on Nike UK store for £144 right now, a few others on sale too. I know you previously posted about the Alphafly (which I bought as a result at 135 odd) so thought I should let you know. Congrats on the speedy run!
Hi Andy, I did make it to the start line after all with my healing broken collar bone. Absolutely loved the day and got a PB 2:18:59 not in you're calibre but hoping to go again in October 👍
Congrats on the great performance. What’s the name of the EDM song that you’ve played in the background of your recent videos? (E.g. at 1:15-20 in this vlog)
Cracking run Andy, massive congratulations on the new HM pb 🎉 How were the Alphafly’s in comparison to the next %? Like you I’ve only just got on the Alphafly train…and would be interested in your thoughts… Many thanks 👍🏃♂️🙌
@@TheFODRunner Alphafly’s killed the old feet at Manchester marathon today! Should’ve worn the Vaporflys… you live and learn…thanks as always to you and the community for some great insight 👍😊
Andy, they just let me down a little bit….first big race in them. Just think Vaporfly would’ve suited me more. For me. Sure they’ll be decent for others 👍🏃♂️🙌
Yeah support was down this year for sure, that finish chute is normally lined side to side with crowds but it was a bit empty this year! Other areas out on the course were really good though to be fair
Ah the infamous "pain cave" !! A lot more often mentioned than the much dreaded "sh*t my laces are coming undone garage" and the "what the f*ck did i do with my last gel attic" .........
