There has been a shortage of fire fighters going on more than ten years, they are not hiring enough to replace the ones that are retiring as there are fewer and fewer people wanting to be fire fighters each year, and that was when it was a paid position dumbass. The FD's budgets across this country have been stagnant or decreases year after year as well not to mention lack of routine maintenance and repair on the apparatus and equipment cause the cities and towns say there is no money in the budget for it, a budget they assign. Ask yourself this genius why are they are resigning and walking off the job without financial support for their families or themselves? I know the answer to that question and its a major reason why cities towns and counties are doing this or something similar to their fire fighters. There is a huge lawsuit brewing and these cities towns counties and states are as well as the NFFA, NFSA going to lose big time for hiding a very serious health risk to these FF's one that violates employee occupational safety laws at both the state and federal level. but you don't know nothing about that so show up to your FD volunteer put on the turn out gear and get trained and certified, and oh buy the way the turn out gear you'll be wearing and the special foam you'll be using has PFAS in it (known as forever chemicals) and was and is a KNOWN CARCINERGENIC THAT HAS AN 80% CHANCE OF CAUSING CANCER WITH LONG TERM USE AND EXPOSURE. That's right the gear you'll be REQUIRED to wear and the foam you'll no doubt have to use to do the job can KILL YOU. Let that knowledge sink in, ops ther goes all your UNPAID volunteers there buddy.

Perhaps, there have been a number of cases where city leaders removed a fire chief for whatever reason, and a huge number of firefighters resigned as well as a result of that.

Taxes are established by law, and you'd have to change the laws to stop collecting the taxes. In the meanwhile, fire levies would accumulate money, which would sit in that account. I couldn't be spent on other uses. It's like putting gas in a car that doesn't go anywhere, the gas is still in the tank.

When the citizenry expects to be coddled and have their every want/need taken care of by the government, they end up with screwed up government. At some point, voters must hold themselves and one another responsible for the "leaders" they have and the policies in place, as well as the consequences/outcomes of those policies. You can blame politicians for their actions, but you also must attach some responsibility to those who put the politician in the job.

I used to work at a community hospital and can tell you that the same thing goes on in the hospitals. Too many paper pushers and not enough people to do patient care. And cuts were always made to areas needed most like patient care but not with the pencil pushers.
