Full SB4 details HERE - roadstershop.com/engines/mercu...
Mercury Racing has partnered with Roadster Shop to bring the revolutionary SB4 DOHC engine to the custom car market. Based on the GM LS7 engine block, Mercury has developed a dual over head cam, 4 valve head to take the LS platform to the next level. The 4 valve head allows for significantly improved intake and exhaust port flow over the traditional 2 valve design, resulting in improved drivability, idle quality, and most importantly a package that revs to 8,000 RPM making 750 HP.
Horsepower: 750 @ 8000
Displacement (L/Cid): 7.0/428
Bore (MM/IN): 104.775/4.125
Stroke (MM/IN): 101.60/4.00
Compression Ratio: 11.7:1

@richardharrold9736

@@cstavro yeah, the Voodoo crank is needlessly complicated, it's not a true flat plane like in a Cosworth DFV or a Ferrari V8 road car. It has eight individual throws, eight rod journals/pins, each of which has to be counterweighted, plus a big mass damper to counter the vibration.

Would love a setup like this for the Ford FE engine. 8,000rpm 428 DOHC Cobra jet 😍
@Davesworld7
@Davesworld7 Год назад
@James Wedding. Except that mercury racing has 32 valve versions of the Chevy BB where they deep skirted the bock with 6 bolt mains. The FE is a medium block with bore spacing in between the Chevy LS and BB. The 428 is a smaller bore stroker motor compared to the 427 FE and the stock 428 had the same lousy lubrication system that plagued every FE except the side-oiler blocks where the mains are the last to get the oil on the standard FE system. If the pressure drops below 60 psi, you just killed a bearing or several but anything aftermarket is like the side-oiler. As far as a production 428 spinning at 8000 rpm, not gonna happen. It's a low rpm street motor with the same stroke as the new Godzilla motor but an even smaller bore than the Godzilla's 4.2". The 427 had a 4.25" bore and a shorter stroke and was tested at 7500 rpm for 24 hours in 1965, yes it was the cammer. This design for the LS7 could be scaled up a tad to fit the 4.53" bore spacing of the Godzilla and the Ford 6.2l boss. The Godzilla has .2" taller deck than the 6.2. With the Godzilla you are already starting at 7.3 liters rather than the 428's 7.0 liters. The reason I would be interested in a modernized FE engine to do this with is the 4.63" bore spacing and taller deck so much more displacement can be realized. The 6.2l with something like Darton MID wet sleeving could reliably surpass the 428 in bore and easily meet or exceed the 427 bore, possibly even making a reliable 460. Rousch already built a 460 cu inch boss engine that started out as the 6.2l. Not much was said about sleeving etc. I was thinking of sending a sacrificial 6.2 block or two to Darton to make the MID sleeves like they did with the LS. This would ensure the largest possible bore that can be had reliably and Cometic will make any gasket you need for the application. As far as the two valve OHC 6.2l heads, Livernois and others have them in the mid 300cfm per intake port range as it is now. I think the 6.2l needs this stuff to happen as it is far too overlooked. Everyone is going gaga over the Godzilla pushrod motor without knowing the similarities and potential of the Boss block. Even ford went right to making a crate Godzilla motor and bypassed the 6.2l OHC.

If mercury racing were to make this head compatible with the v12 ls motor being made in Australia by a aftermarket company. It would be badass to be able to have an ls12 dohc crate engine, especially if it were twin turbo or boosted somehow.

@Davesworld7
@Davesworld7 Год назад
@@marchog5276 Or just get the 9l mercury racing motor that is based on the retooled Chevy BB including deep skirts and 6 bolt mains. The only problem I see with that V12 is that it is a 90 degree engine which could be evened out with split pins. Oh, I said it, split pins, oh no! Lamborghini and Audi V10s use split pin and I have never heard of that causing a problem. If you're going to make a V12, make it fire at evenly spaced intervals. A 60 degree block would be best.
