+David Fisher No, i prefer River class adaptions like Irish Navy and thier New Zealand Opv cousins. These Usa ones are basically gun platforms. Even us kiwis operate sh2 I class seasprites armed with penguin missles. And have a ice strenghthened hull for Antarctic waters and sea state 6. And cranes, Vertrep capable, holds up to a platoon level of soldiers. This ship is toast in those rough seas.

Yes, I agree. Remove the anti-ship missiles and the rear ramp systems. Install a mini VLS with 4-6 Penguins and short range anti-sub rockets, expand the side RHIB to fit two 7 meter instead on one ( the second could be on a track system to slide it into launch position) on either beam. Keep the forward weapons arrangement. This will give this vessel a better multi mission capability and deploy a platoon of marines instead of two squads.

US should just buy what other countries are using. Ships get a lot cheaper when they are bought in bulk. Once the USA is involved well over 100 Ships can be built and watch the costs fall though the floor.

@Joshua Ngau Ajang Technically it is the patrol frigate version of the cutter, with vls and other improvements in electronics and weapons systems.

To be honest I think that our surface combatants are fast enough, I just think that secondary armaments could be good against small attack craft fielded by nations such as Iran, also if rail gun tech becomes viable, I think that the reintroduction of a fast battleship is a good idea

Actually it looks like a smaller version. I would add some 30 foot on the stern as the way I see it the weapons on the foscle is to get very wet on sea.

@@dwwolf4636 Not even escort duty. The old Fletcher class was the same size, but better armed. The Freedom class doesn't even have adequate crew for safe watch standing during peace.

The Swiftships 75M OPV/Corvette uses a shorter haul but otherwise has an identical design to Lockheed Martin's Littoral Combat Ship. Lockheed's LCS costs $348 million at full rate production. The LCS is larger, has a slightly better surface radar and more munition/weapons systems stores for anti-surface warfare and mine countermeasures. The Swiftships 75m OPV will probably cost $230 million at most, but if say 6 or more of the ships are ordered, the cost per ship would more than likely go down to around $200 million at most or possibly as low as $175 million. The 75m OPV is powered by two MTU 20V4000 flex fuel/multi-fuel diesel engines in the Littoral Mission Ship variant, and powered by four of the 20V4000 engines in the Corvette variant. Fuel consumption at cruising speed with power at 50% is 321.7 L/Hr per engine. Since it can burn Diesel, Biodiesel, Bio-kerosene, Ethanol, or Gasoline, the fuel costs are relatively low in comparison to other OPV/LCS ships. Overall, at around $0.70 per L for the most economic fuel mix, operating the vessel for 2 days/(48 hours) at sea would put the fuel cost around $22,000.00 for the LMS version & $44,000.00 for the Corvette version. Fuel costs make up around 45% to 50% of a ship's total operating cost, so it's safe to say it would cost in the realm of $46,400.00 per day to operate the Corvette variant. Assuming the ship is at sea and operational for 320 out of the 365 days in a year, the ship's annual operating cost is probably around $14.8 Million for the Corvette variant and $7.4 Million for the pure OPV/LMS variant. In comparison, it apparently costs nearly $6.5 million per day to operate the new U.S.S Gerald R Ford aircraft carrier. Of course she has a crew of 6,700 versus an the mere crew of 65 on an OPV. Nonetheless, That's still equal to a cost of $2.3 billion per year to operate only one ship!!

EI36 it would be better to invest in a proper frigate I think instead of a corvette like this which is called a patrol ship for some reason but I am not an expert
