I am absolutely blown away by the support for this episode!!!! Thank you all so much for watching, commenting, and sharing your own struggles with anxiety! I am honored to have had Squirrel sit down with me for this honest conversation, and I am so glad that so many of you felt seen and took something away from it as well. Please let me know who else you would like for me to have on, or what topics you would like for me to talk about solo in the replies to this comment! Thank you again for your support, and I'll see you in the next one!

I'd love to hear you have a conversation with Shelise Ann Sola from cults to consciousness. She talks a lot about her experience growing up in a cult on her podcast, but I'd love to hear about how she copes with hearing so many horror stories.

Loved this. I've had crippling anxiety for YEARS, but I'm working on it. I grew up in a Jamaican household and my mother believed that I only needed to worry about school and keeping the house clean. In her opinion, friends were unnecessary, and I wasn't allowed to stay after school or go anywhere. So, I didn't talk to people between the ages of 9 and 18. I went to school and came straight home. If there were ever assignments that required me to talk to classmates or speak in front of the class, I failed every time because I simply didn't do it. Fast forward to college and my first job, I didn't have any social skills. People terrified me. Large groups scared me. I remember a time when my boyfriend tried introducing me to a friend of his. I was suffering so much from anxiety and being sheltered that when this man held out his hand to me, I shied away and physically hid behind my boyfriend. I avoided parties and group activities throughout my twenties. I only went to grocery stores during times when there wouldn't be many people. I remember needing my boyfriend to always speak for me because I'd freeze up and shut down from things as simple as telling a waiter what I wanted to order. My anxiety has gotten a little better over the years, but it still keeps me from doing things like...leaving comments online. Has anyone ever typed out entire comments before and then immediately deleted them because they were afraid of being attacked or judged in some way?

As someone who also has really bad anxiety its good to know that im not the only one who struggles at doing simple daily tasks. I always get mad at myself for freaking out over "nothing" or feeling sick to my stomach just to call someone or make an appointment 🙃 I probably should be on medication but I have past trauma about going to the doctor/hospital ... ugh im a mess
@consciouscontactpodcast
@consciouscontactpodcast 11 месяцев назад
It is never "nothing"! If it affects you then it is something! I'm a mess too haha. But it does get better. The more I lean into it, and see it as a superpower and don't try to constantly hide it or just "be okay" the less it affects me! And I went to lots of therapy over the years too!

I absolutely loved this! I never knew squirrel struggled so much with anxiety. I completely understand how he feels. I was diagnosed with GAD when I was in high school. Now Im 31 and my social anxiety is at its all time worst. Mostly when it comes to talking on the phone or going out to placea where I know im going to have to talk to people. Like squirrel said, its really only the initial reaching out to people that's hard for me. If I have to make a call, ill rehearse every thing I want to say in my head over and over.. then once I actually do call someone, the moment they answer the phone, ive already forgotten everything I wanted to say.. but once I get passed that first initial interaction, im usually fine for the rest of the call. It honestly helps a lot to hear you and squirrel talk about it. Im so glad I found your podcast!

Squirrel and Genay!!! 🥹❤️🫶🏼 proud of your growth! I’ve had crippling anxiety at some point in my life where I was too scared to leave my home and it lasted awhile! It takes a lot of practice to control it and it’s been a blessing to get passed that and move forward! Continue to keep pushing through it! Don’t let anxiety stop you from reaching your full potential! Squirrel you’ve got great things coming with your gaming which I am a HUGE fan of! And Genay you’ve got great things coming your way too with this podcast! Keep it up! ❤️

Ay! Good to see this one coming out. This is a real good look into the difference faces of anxiety, as my wife and oldest daughter are dealing with theirs. Hearing all the experiences and trying to figure out the inner workings, self help, does, kinda, help me better under what's ticking in their minds. As a husband, father, I've always struggled with helping them realize the world isn't theirs to take on, as I'm there to help, or if anything take it on for them. Either way, I truly found this really helpful in my understanding. Keep up the good work and can't wait for what comes next for Squirrel. ❤

@consciouscontactpodcast And I'm figuring that out more and more, the being there and not questioning, but rather wait on their time, as they swim through their thoughts and emotions to land. It's been rough, but a real learning experience, as my upcoming with any thing to do with anxiety was seen as being lazy or weak. But seeing it first hand, it really takes a strong mind and person to tackle this on their own. I'm glad I can be there to at least show they're never alone.

Loved this, honestly. That is really rough to deal with. I had some kind of fear going to school coz I felt so alone and outside, really was alone too, but it wasn't this level of anxiety you talk about, but it was rough. So it wasn't so much as I pretended to be sick, I really felt sick. Did not make it better, coz when I was home my teachers told my classmates to be kinder to me. And THAT blew up a whole new storm of insecurities. In fact, I think that made me more negative. Not so much alone, but I knew it was fake from the classmates, so I turned all of that "friendship" away and just wanted to be alone instead. Theatre class in the Gymnasium/ high school helped me out a lot, and dancing. Coz standing on stage, well it was really nervewrecking, but after it was done I feel like I claimed a piece of myself that I lost. So, not for those with anxiety issues, but those who feel very insecure and alone - go to theatre or dancing. Just get a role to play, stand on stage, it's scary as heck at first but you will feel so great afterwards. Not as a contest or anything like that, heck no. Just for fun. Just sitting in the back of the classroom (been there!) doesn't help at all. Now got my very small group of friends, I'd say its about 4 people that I really trust and would call my friends, and only one of those are actually living in the same country as me, the other's come from other countries. Met two though! Proud of myself for daring to go abroad to meet people I only knew online! Ok I will stop rambling xD And good luck with your channels! And I hope you both get to chip away more of that anxiety and fully enjoy the world, both Genay and Squirrel. Wish you both the best :)

I’m the same way with the anxiety thing. When I was single and lived alone I used to stare and not see people for days at a time. Sometimes I’d spend the whole weekend without saying a single word to anyone. I had to force myself to grocery shop. Even to this day I wouldn’t even dream of going somewhere and sitting down to eat alone. Someone has to be there with me so I can feel comfortable.

Yes, anxiety is absolutely horrible. I too have the “something bad is going to happen/end of the world” moments all the time. Phone calls are terrible. Meeting new people and doing new activities is bad because all I can think of is I’ll make a fool of myself or people will make fun of me 😂 the one that drives me absolutely crazy is when I go to the store for just one thing and they don’t end up having it so I feel like I have to act “extra normal” so they don’t think I’m stealing or being suspicious haha. I can feel it starting in my chest and then I start shaking, it’s always worse when I drive the highways. That’s my biggest anxiety trigger

Geney I suffer with anxiety and panic attacks for like 20 yrs. I wish I had you to talk to about this because I don't have any friends to talk to about this. I am in therapy, so that is a start, but would be nice to have someone that can relate to me. Everything seems to set it off and it is very frustrating. I also have been trying to read about it too. I had it under control for many years, but in the last 5 years, so much has happened. Divorce, new grandbaby, and getting medical checkup, it came back with a vengeance. So just thought I would throw that option out there if you feel like reaching out.
