The sequential shift!! 😍😍 it just looks so good in the 79 with that retro screen. Like it should be if they offered that option 😂 hopefully Crusier Consoles partners with you to build a sweet centre console.
Impressed with your attitude towards your work boys, and the honesty and integrity you express through the camera. First and foremost, congratulations on an epic achievement so far. And secondly, when will you have a production date for this awesome set up ?
Thanks man, we have all been in business for a long time and there is no advantage is hiding anything. Under promise and over deliver..... simple really. Regarding production date, we have pretty much everything in place to start on the first run of the retail kits. Our plan is to offer 10 kits for the first batch with the intention of speaking closely with each of those buyers and getting detailed feedback, before simply ramping up production numbers. We would like some variation in there, different shifters, different trans tuning and people using the vehicles for different applications. But it will be a first come first serve basis. We can't think of another way to be fair to everyone who has already tried to buy one. However the reason we used mac for the first conversion is the type of driving he does and the power his car makes. We want to be sure these will hold up to his abuse and that will give us an idea on what we can confidently recomend the kit for. We do still need to make some changes to his car before his trip. But in the meantime he will be on the road testing normal manorisms and how the transmission behaves for normal use....... well that was the plan anyway. After collection he just turned it up to full power and starting beating on it straight away.... we definitely chose the right guy to torture test it. Lastly we do not want to be taking payments for kits and then have customers waiting extended periods for delivery. We will keep everyone updated as anything unfolds.
The 8HP70 appears to certainly change the drivability of a car or in this case truck. Great conversion. It will be interesting to see how it handles the torque of the diesel over time. Another great video Andrew.
Fingers crossed! Not just the crazy torque of this fairly modified one, but the right foot which happens to be connected to its owner is also of concern.......
I agree with all the positive comments below, you guys have done an amazing job!!! Particularly impressed with the technology overall, but how you go from billets of ally to adaptor plates is impressive!!. As a happy owner of a 100 Series 1HDFTE Gturbo-Red Wheel, +30's, PDIFMIC etc, etc 235kw/735Nm and a re-worked A750F box ( by GTurbo), towing 3T, I would still save the $$$ for this conversion. I'll keep watching!!!
For all the 79 owners who have always said the 5-speed manual is fine, that's all you need, but not any more. This is what the 79 should have had as an option, bloody Toyota. In the production stage, these mods would have cost a lot less, but it gives guys like you to fix something that Toyota should have done, well done.
@@ZeroTo60Tube I'm actually working with "JSRTuning" just recently (Like a week so far) trying to figure out the "Turkey sounds" or weird Surge like problems I've had since I put in my 17t's. So hope is on the horizon.
Fantastic conversion. Car sounds rad! 👌 🔥 I see you have used same place to hide Lamik TCU as I did in my E92 👍 Glad to see this working so well out of the box 📦
Man this car is making some power! You feel like you are in a monster truck! The lamik worked so well. It’s a little different power curve to the diesels the lamik normally runs on, but so far so good. Also thank you for help back in 2021/2022 getting the lamik in my hands. It’s been a life changer!
Great video, been thinking of a 8-spd myself for a project, Turbolamik do make a good product. On a sidenote, Mac's mullet is MAGNIFICENT, just wanted to get that ouit there :D
I noticed you had some conserns with the converter etc since he was running 37" tires. A suggestion could be to opt for the Land rover discovery 4 8hp70 diesel gearbox. The converter is much bigger and those cars are designed to be pulling 3.5 tonnes trailer etc. Going this route in my patrol as we speak. :)
Obviously everyone’s going to be keen to see the results from the first trip with it getting some harsh treatment and I’m curious as to how the fuel consumption figures will compare as currently they ain’t great
I would be interested to see where this sits price wise, the only reason I sold my 79 twin cab was the transmission was so under geared and the conversions on offer at the time were not what I was after. Looking forward to pricing.
Wow! Solid effort guys well deserved drive and results. There is a mob in South Africa also doing the 8 speed in dualcabs on youtube. Maybe see what parts they use also. This will change Australia this conversion. A question with this would be knocking the gear stick when bouncing around off road or the passenger leans over to change the stereo or so. Can it accidentally be bumped into park or reverse. Still 10/10
The characteristics of the tranny shifting reminds me of my old 2008 Audi Q7 which had the 4.2 litre V8 twin turbo diesel and a 6 speed “tiptronic” auto. The engine braking of the Audi was fantastic, smart and always in the gear where you wanted it. Engine braking during long decents was fantastic and rarely did I need to ride the brake. Once you guys have a flappy paddle steering wheel, I believe it will be on a level or perhaps better than what Europe can make. Congrats on an impressive transmission. No doubt I will be contacting you guys soon.
Yeah, well with the console and oem style shifter it’s all incorporated on the shifter. You can choose one of three modes and they have a park button. Looking at using the 2020 Toyota supra shifter.
What sort of torque is your cummins pushing at the moment? This is not doing any torque reduction, where it really should be. But the point of the test kit is a torture test. We want to find the weak point and how to fix it.
@@ZeroTo60Tube I currently have 550hp 1300ftlb. I would tune it back down to 480/1100 and see what it would do. Does the ZF need defuel between shifts?
That almost makes me want a 79! Think I'll stick to cramming the 8hp in a landy though 🤣 Does the shifter have an interlock button to press when moving from P/N to R/D? Just thinking from a safety point of view if there's a dog or a kid in the car and you go to open a gate it could be easily knocked into gear?
Not a physical lock. But like the oem application of these trans it won’t let you put in the wrong gear. It really looks after the driver. Even in manual mode it takes care of everything if the driver messes up. No accidental double shifts. No too early down shifts. It’s brilliant really.
@@ZeroTo60Tube I meant like if you are in park with the engine running what would prevent it being put into gear if the lever was bumped? On OEM they would require the brake to be pressed and a button on the shifter to be pressed to change from P to D or R. Also what tells the ECU the difference between RND and -/+ operation?
Hey guys, in regard to the 79 series conversion, are you able to proved an 8 speed for the older Hdj79. Look forward to any i fo or feed back. Cheers Rob
Very excited for you blokes! Question around high loads, ie in deep sand. I know should be using Low-range for sand/beach work, but with minimal convertor slip, is the sand going to load up clutch pack holding torque and slip? Hoping the FTE kit is next!!
So we have used this trans is a car making around 900nm on sand with no problems. However it was running smaller tyres. That said we are not expecting any issues in Mac’s on sand. However we do want to load to Maximum cgvm and hit some long hills. Or maybe tow a couple of big jet skis through some soft sand. Testing to continue over the coming weeks.
A suggestion re park on a steep hill and jumping out - yes, often has to be done. But the ease of selecting drive by just touching the lever could lead to a dramatic issue. Needs some sort of park lock safety mechanism. It did seem a bit like the 200 autos - didn't get out of 6th gear and doesn't need 1st much, so are 8 ratios overkill? Otherwise a fantastic gearbox and TC pairing.
The park lock works like any late model oem car. You must have your foot on the brake to get it out of park. It will auto engage park when you turn the engine off. It stays in the park lock when you start the engine. And its very different to the 200 series, once you learn a bit more about modern electronic automatics it will make more sense to you.
@@torana6531 these setups can operate like a manual. And it will feel like you are driving a manual. So the clutch pedal overides all the internal programming and gives the driver full control. In macs car its going to be for fun, but in the drift cars we setup its needed.
I’ve got a jzs171 crown wagon, comes factory with a 1jz vvti turbo motor and the biggest let down about the car is the four speed auto. Would love to do this conversion to it to livin it up, car even has shift buttons on the steering wheel from factory it’s a match made in heaven 😅
We have the 1j adapter plates on 8speed.au if you want to check them out. We also have a 1j and 2j in the shop right now for the 8speed swaps. Vids to follow.
Hi, I’ve got LC76 with 4L V6 petrol, would this work in my case, even when the petrol engine is not so torquey? Just asking, I’m from Europe and I doubt that anybody would be able to actually do this swap here. Just interested if it is technically possible.
We havent broken one yet. In stock form its looking like 1000nm is fine. We are trying to get one to slip. The low reving desiels dont seem to stress the trans like a petrol motor revving to 8000rpm.
Can you guys go over the wiring for TPS, MAP, RPM and also the virtual clutch setup with dct shifter? Just got my lamik to put an 8hp70 behind an LS (Non-CAN)
I should add as well, if you purchased the Lamik from 8speed.au just give us a call and we can talk you through it. That service is for our customers only.
you may not think that was a good sales video but i tell ya that demonstrated the significant advantages over the toyota box. now excuse me whilst i go sell myself on the corner to pay for it when its released.
Hahaha….. just remember use protection! Jokes aside I’d rather be open and upfront on the process and share the experience. We are not hiding anything and want people to understand how to install these themselves, how the conversion fully works. And also how to have a decent transmission. Not just what ever is on offer.
