Now this is the best informative video about Japan that I watched! (And trust me, I've seen more than 500, not kidding..) You basically summarized all of the 500+ videos that I watched into just 13 minutes, unbelievable. Your quick explanation made it very easy to understand or even search about it to get deeper understanding. I simply love this! Should have found your channel way sooner :) P.S. If you have more "tips" like these, I would watch part 2 as well haha

🎌 Onsen (bathing culture) in Japan is a big deal and I highly recommend it to tourists. There are several cultural rules involved though so be sure to do your homework. Besides no tattoos, the next most important rule is washing with shampoo & soap before getting into the water.

I'm surprised you mentioned the crows/ravens - they are huge, and can be kind of aggressive. I feel save around them, but somewhere in the back of my mind I have an image when I walk too close to them that they could go for my eyes at any moment... Many of these things had been unusual/interesting to me over the course of the last year, but I don't think any of them surprised me upon this viewing. What has surprised me the most about Japan is how often I've had umbrellas stolen. I used to buy nice big 1100 yen umbrellas, but I can't keep one for more than a month without it being stolen. So, as a consequence, I now carry a Daiso umbrella and no one steals it because no one wants it. The thing that surprised me about vending machines is: Except for in big cities (BIG cities), I rarely see food/snack vending machines. It's all drinks, and very occasionally ice cream, and the drinks are NEVER alcoholic except for in hotels. I hear this is a change within the past 5 or so years, and uh, I get it. Probably good for society in general, but less fun for me... boo-hoo, I know, just go to the konbini, but I found the concept interesting. Even in Tokyo, I've never seen a vending machine with alcoholic beverages in a public place (and I've seen videos with them, so they definitely used to exist, but I got here in 2022). No snacks/food though, that surprised me. Makes sense - that stuff expires/goes off. It's incredible how this country does maintain the super incredible amount of ANY kind of vending machines at the level they do, even in rural and semi-rural areas. Though in my year here, I've seen a number of vending machines being taken away, so I think that is noticeably diminishing, probably because it's insane, and sensible measures are being enacted to make it less so, I think. Less fun, but makes more sense. (Two of the closest vending machines from my apartment were removed in the last year, and I didn't know this until the mornings I walked to where they were, expecting to get coffee... which, I didn't get coffee, so that's never fun.) The sun rises and sets early - that DID surprise me, but also that's not why they call it that (it's called that because it's east of China, basically).
@NinjaMonkeyguy
@NinjaMonkeyguy Год назад
Crows remain scary to me hehe! I agree not too many vending machines that sell other products is mostly drinks unlike what social media might want you to think!

another thing I would add if I were making this (forgive my ignorance, Idk how Gibraltar is) sort of along with the short days, Japan doesn't do daylight saving which means your days are thrown off even more in the beginning. Also, even if you travelled before, if you travel again at a different time of year, make sure you know (and possibly notify family/friends expecting contact) if the timezone is different. Really great video, I hate it when I say one thing about Japan and someone says "THAT'S NOT TRUE IT'S NOT IN X ANIME". I always am like okay think of a show/movie from your home. Now tell me real life is 100% like that show. So yeah, I think I have maybe said everything in this video about 20 times lol! I was just having a conversation recently about how you don't see weird vending machines everywhere, it's generally drinks
@NinjaMonkeyguy
@NinjaMonkeyguy Год назад
I agree, daylight saving time can really throw you off the time zones can really change as a result! and ye although there are areas like Aki and Ikebukuro that are animal mecca sort of places overall it's not all anime! Weird vending machines you will find but not too often and because there are SO MANY you'll likely encounter one at some point right?
@hanagara1907
@hanagara1907 Год назад
@@NinjaMonkeyguy I mean, in UK we hardly do vending machines period (and even the few that DO exist, it's hit-or-miss if they actually WORK) so my first couple of trips, ANY kind of vending machine was sort of a novelty!
