7th Performance Together - Pentatonix - "Born To Be Wild" By Steppenwolf - Sing Off - Series 3 REACTION VIDEO My continuing reactions to Pentatonix on The Sing Off
More fun facts! Avi and Kevin are a few years older then Scott, Kirstie and Mitch and not quite as silly though still very funny. Amongst themselves, Avi and Kevin were called mom and dad and Scott, Kirstie and Mitch - the kids. You questioned in an earlier reaction why Avi really left. He left May 2017, 6 years after the Sing-Off. They recorded a heart-wrenching video, all of them together, sitting next to Avi who made the announcement to the fans. He and the group were very emotional. Here's the thing, and you can see it in this video where Kirstie pushes herself to perform while sick, each one has an incredible work ethic. They want perfection, they want to do better and better, and to achieve that takes a lot of time and hard work. Avi had that too. But, especially for an acapella group, even with this much talent, to get where they are now, even though still badly underappreciated, they had to work even harder than most bands. There were three things that made it harder on Avi. Avi is very close to his parent/family and nature and loves/needs to spend time with them. These two things suffered greatly when they traveled so much in the US and abroad. For still being under the radar, when you start diving into youtube, you see they've been everywhere. Disney, Macy's grand opening, music award shows - even country music awards!, Sesame Street, 4th of July DC, Christmas live shows and tv specials, New Year's Eve performances. They've appeared and networked like mad. A final nail in the coffin for Avi, he suffered a lot from jet lag. You can see him dragging and saying things like he hadn't slept for days because his body couldn't adjust to time changes to sleep and then had to stay awake for performances and appearances. He still loves music and does create and perform. But he does a LOT less touring, appearances. From his Instagram account, you can see he spends a lot of time hiking and being in nature. His preferred music genre is folk music. It was hard for him to leave the band. He was an integral part of making Pentatonix happen but he needed to make a change for his own well-being. Walking away from Pentatonix was probably the hardest and best thing for him to do. You see him in pictures with the rest of PTX at Kevin's wedding a few months ago. They always comment and heap praises on each other's work. Just really a lovely group of people. ❤
What a lucky girl to be surrounded by her tribe in moments like that.. they were fierce and driven in a whole new way. Kevin and Avi as usual make the group so special and dynamic. A performance doesn’t need perfection, it needs passion! 🔥🔥🔥 Wonderful reaction as always!
My favorite thing about this performance is that when they were done, Scott looks so terrified. If you watch it again, you will notice he forgets a whole bunch of the words. They all thought they had done terrible, you can see it on their faces, and everyone still loved it. It's one of my favorites from the show, and I didn't even realize he wasn't singing real words until I had seen it probably 10 times. Kevin and Avi were so good, it does a great job of distracting you from his slip.
Yeah - I thought he was just slurring them for effect, but you're probably right. Sometimes, when I think he does too many leads, I realize how hard it must be to have to know all the words to all the songs, and maybe the others are happy doing the doo-wahhs in the background.
Keep in mind when you react to the next song (Where Kirstin sings lead) that it was performed in the SAME SHOW! She's one tough singer. I agree that they did kind of protect her in this song, but she's right out in front in the next one.
Two things: This is my favorite performance because it's just so incredible, and because of what Sara tells them about being worth it. The Singoff crew had them lead the show with their first performance, and end the show with their second to give Kirstie plenty of time to recover from the first one.
As another commentor mentioned, this was the first of two songs for the night. And, as sick as she was, she took the lead on the second song (country theme). The others filled in for her there as well, but she carried the heart of the performance. Born to Wild was definitely one of my favorites b/c it did show their versatility and Meat and Potatoes really delivered. I saw your reaction to their first stop/start. It mirrored mine every time I watch this performance. I also love their similar move where they pause for Kevin to shoot the gun before the burst back in. Nice "tricks" as the judges call them. From this point on, it's two performances a show. And, quite truthfully, they have one "good/great" performance and one "outstanding" performance each show.
💯Props to Scott who gave a TRUE ROCK VOCAL!.. 💯Kevin and Avi sounding SO DAMN LOUD AND FULL 💯Kirstie and Mitch backing guitar sounds THIS IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE PERFORMANCE S!! They definitely can DO ROCK!!!🌟👍
Avi and Kevin were best friends almost from the start, and after the show they roomed together. I think some of why they're so good together is the chemistry between them personally.
Another great reaction for another great performance. Five supremely talented individuals who really work hard at perfecting their craft. That is why I am such a huge fan of PTX.
You can really tell Kirstie is sick after their performance because she is so quiet and still. Not her usual bubbly self. I feel that this performance by Pentatonix made the other groups realize that they would be fighting for 2nd place. LOL
I remember a couple choir and voice instructors saying how a person’s sick voice was the most natural because it naturally puts the least amount of strain possible on the vocal cords. It forces you to open your throat and use as full a range as possible. You can’t really do the high and low pitched versions we shuffle through throughout a day in order to be heard or sound pleasing. It also forces you to breathe properly and use all the air in your lungs
Not every song is going to enthrall everyone. Plus, you gave the individuals credit for what they do. It was a real, authentic reaction, and I applaud you for it. My thought, they were trying to do country without doing country, because that's not what they do. I thought they did great given what they had to work with. Loving your reactions!
When you stopped the video just after 4:14 I laughed out loud, because I KNEW you were going to bring out that gleeful smile that you do sometimes. That little break they do there, then Kevin coming in like...like...oh please don't make me say "a wrecking ball"...can't think of anything else...anyway, that's my favorite spot in the whole song. This was the first "Sing-Off" performance that I stumbled upon back when I first found PTX, and I couldn't stop playing it. THANK YOU for loving this arrangement (and for knowing Steppenwolf and the original version).
Just as a side note, or backdrop, if you will; a Lot of the group's on Season three were Stellar. Have a listen to Urban Method, Delilah, and the Dartmouth Aires. A-Mazing!
I think I am able to put my finger on what I like best about your reactions .... it's the pause of video, wide eyed look to camera (and I'm nodding to support the reaction, you understand ;) ), glance to video, back to us an then the slow, huge grin ... Magical - please don't change
Yep! Great reaction Mike! As i mentioned after "Radio killed the video star," the Judges will keep pointing out the obvious of what we all know now: Avi & Kevin are the driving force of the PTX rhythm section and with the trio of Mitch, Kirstin, & Scott getting synchronized together, Pentatonix is turning into an interesting force with great potential to win the show..
When you get done with the Sing Off reactions, there's an original song from PTX you need to check out. Kevin sounds like a machine and Avi...makes your headphones try vibrating off your head. It's an audio only but so good. It's called Natural Disasters. If I'm not mistaken, Kevin wrote this one.
DSydE, when you get to the finale you should also listen to the other finalist, The Dartmouth Aires, so you can see what they were up against. In truth they never had a chance. Pentatonx was so far and above all of the other groups that it was obvious they would win it all. Also check out
Great reaction! This is one of my top three from the series - and the other two are yet to come! Scott sang in a high school rock band, so he was pretty comfortable, but none of the others had a rock background. You are really banging these out - this is #7 of 14, so you're halfway there. Looking forward to the next one.
Just remember now that for the next performance, it's the same week and Kirstie is still in the same condition. This performance is amazing, the next performance will just round out your comments regarding smart arranging and professionalism and talent. :)
I've always loved this song, and they Killed this song - loved this version. Yep - Avi and Kevin right from the get go and all throughout! This and one more a bit further down the road are my absolute favorites. Been watching all your Sing-Off Reactions. You're now one of my favorite Reactors. I appreciate your honest opinions and feel you're right on with them. New Subscriber.
I appreciate your review and you opinions. I personally own a lot of Pentatonix albums but rarely listen to them. They are very talented but I've always felt like they are missing something. Watching you review their sing off run has helped me pin point what I felt. They have a great low range and a full high range, but for me are lacking in the mid range which brings the other two together into tight harmony and fluidness. Seems like their deck is stacked in the high range way more. Just my thoughts. Rock on.
Your reactions are always righteous and this one is no different. Technical issue: the audio of the videos you're reacting to have distorted audio...just an fyi.
welll on not teaching that... all but kevin i think were in musical theater in high school so they were taught some of that hehehe i know what you mean though! :D
