Coconut Oil Benefits:
1. Source of Energy
Rich source of MCTs (Medium Chain Triglycerides) which are a type of saturated fat.
-may increase number of calories burned
-MCTs go straight to the liver (unlike other saturated fats that are more slowly absorbed through the blood) and become a rapid source of energy.
-Produce ketones to use as energy instead of glucose (if glucose is too high, insulin spikes as well and the glucose in no longer being used for energy. Resulting in tiredness and fatigue.)
2. Antimicrobial and Antifungal
Coconut oil has antimicrobial and antifungal properties due to its MCT content - specifically, LAURIC ACID
Lauric acid is a fatty acid that makes up about 50% of the MCTs in coconut oil.
Research suggests it may have antimicrobial effects against disease-causing microorganisms, such as:
* Staphylococcus aureus
* Streptococcus mutans
* Streptococcus pyogenes
* Escherichia coli
* Helicobacter pylori
3. Reduces Appetite
A proportion of MCTs you eat are broken down in a process that produces molecules called ketones
Ketones reduce appetite by either acting directly on the brain’s chemical messengers or altering the levels of hunger-inducing hormones, such as ghrelin.

Studies show that coconut oil can boost the moisture content of dry skin.
It may also improve the function of the skin, helping prevent excessive water loss and protecting you from external factors, such as infectious agents, chemicals, and allergens .

Coconut oil can also protect against hair damage
One study determined that, since coconut oil deeply penetrates hair strands, it makes them more flexible and increases their strength to prevent them from breaking under tension.
Similarly, another study found that coconut oil nourishes hair strands and reduces breakage, which further strengthens the hair.
6. Good For Oral Health
Oil pulling involves swishing coconut oil in your mouth like mouthwash. It may significantly reduce the count of harmful bacteria in the mouth - namely S. mutans - compared with a regular mouthwash
This is thought to be due to the antibacterial properties of LAURIC ACID
Additionally, lauric acid in coconut oil reacts with saliva to form a soap-like substance that prevents cavities and helps reduce dental plaque buildup and gum inflammation.
7. Source of Antioxidants
Coconut oil is a good source of antioxidants, which help neutralize damaging molecules called free radicals. This, in turn, helps ward off several diseases
Some of the main types of antioxidants in the oil are:
* tocopherols
* tocotrienols
* phytosterols
* flavonoids
* polyphenols
Antioxidants in coconut oil also allow for potential anti-inflammatory and brain-protective effects
8. May Help with Seizures and Symptoms of Alzheimer’ss Disease
Since coconut oil is rich in MCTs, which significantly increase blood levels of ketones, it may potentially help with symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease and with seizures.
The brain can use ketones instead of glucose for its energy. Researchers believe that the lack of available glucose to fuel brain cells is a possible explanation for the reduction in seizure frequency in people with epilepsy on ketogenic diets

This video is great! Oil swishing with coconut oil also whitened my teeth after a month of doing 5 minutes daily. Oh, I almost forgot to mention that it (adding it to "fat bombs") reduced my seizure frequency a lot. I have epilepsy.

Thanks for the comment 😊 I could yes…but the only real con of coconut oil that I’m aware of, is consuming too much of it can raise cholesterol (due to it being a fat). Best to have in small amounts/moderation (just like any other fats). Hope that’s helpful?

I was only using minimal amount as cooking oil (no deep frying) and all of my LDL, HDL and triglycerides went up so total cholesterol skyrocketed. Don’t use coconut oil inside your body, only outside on your skin.
