8 Controversial Video Games That Are HATED & LOVED 

I'm definitely in the "old style" Assassin's Creed team - stabbing someone in the neck shouldn't result in numbers popping out of their head and them getting up and swinging back at you.

The Order 1886 is another. I can understand why people might feel shortchanged but, man, I have nothing but love for that gem. The world building and atmosphere was absolutely on point. I want another.

Days Gone was the first game I played after I picked up a PS5. I was playing and thought it was pretty good, then you got to the cutscene where you go south and I totally fell in love with the game.

I came back to Cyberpunk after Edgerrunners and found myself really enjoying it. It had a few bugs but after the disaster it was at launch they were barely noticeable. Days Gone I also played late in game, but also really enjoyed it too. They weren't life changing, but they were entertaining enough to keep me going

Mass Effect 3 is the definition of " the journey is better than the destination". For me, that whole game is tying up all the decisions you took in the previous games.

The Last Of Us Part 2 might be the king of the divisive games, there is almost no middle ground, people absolute love it or absolute hate it.

The new one to add to this list is Atomic Heart, I've can't remember a game getting such different reviews. ACG gave it a Buy at Full Price and Skill Up didn't recommend it.

I loved playing Days Gone. One of the few single player games I've actually completed over the last couple years.

CyberPunk is exactly why I never buy games on release day, I’m so glad I waited until it was fixed, it’s easily one of the most immersive and enjoyable experiences I’ve had from a video game in years! ❤ And I’m old! 😅

I love the way y’all cover games. Honest measured opinions, true love of gaming, and allowing for how we all approach games slightly differently. I played CP2077 on launch on a last gen XBox and enjoyed it - fun gameplay, no issues - but the world didn’t 100% grab me quite the way I thought it would. Played Mass Effect Legendary instead, and THAT did grab me. Who knows? So,times you just have to play a game to find out for yourself. (And ME is Legendary for a reason!)

I'm solidly in the camp of Valhalla boring me to tears and ultimately results in me reinstalling an older AC release to enjoy. Also Days Gone is a fantastically underrated game. Have completed it twice over the years and just seeing this video has made me tempted to play it a third...

The assasins creed one reminded me of the multiplayer it had. I just cannot describe how fun it was to hung and also be hunted

I cried during days gone story. For me, gameplay to story and world building was amazing. Ran into a hoard at night real early during my first play through, and it actually made me scared to venture out at night. Until I got better guns and enough stamina to outrun them

I went into Days Gone not expecting a lot, but was pleasantly surprised! I played it again on my PS5 and that bump in frame rate was a game changer!

I love both versions of Assassin's Creed, the shorter and the longer. I think there's room for both and I am very excited for Mirage.

I really enjoyed Gotham Knights. As someone who has been gaming for 40 years since I got my Atari 2600 I didn’t realise enjoying said game made me a “casual gamer”.

Deathstranding was the first ever game that I purchased Day 1, and I loved it, loved it so much that I started a 2nd offline playthrough to try and max each NPC

Days gone (PC) is amazing, I wasn't too positive when I started playing but the environment of the open world, scavenging and fear of being killed all work in harmony. It is my all time favorite

Kind of surprised Far Cry 6 didn't make the list. That's one that people either loved it or hated it. I for one enjoyed it, and my friend that we play every far cry together hated it and didn't even finish it. Everyone I've talked to and game with has been very divided on it as well

I feel the Cyberpunk divide. But the way they touched on self-flatlining and how they showed how that event effected the people who were around the person who self-flatlined legit made me cry. Those scenes alone have made Cyberpunk one of the most memorable games I've ever played.

And I know this list is compiled of games in recent memory, but one game that is still rather divisive to this day: Final Fantasy XIII, comes to my mind. I will die on the hill of XIII not being one of the strongest entries, but still a good game overall.

Predator: Concrete Jungle. I’m not sure if people hated it. I have a love hate relationship. So much potential for an open world to be minimized to a small “levels” based game.

Another very interesting and well made video! This probably didn't make it in since it wasn't *that* controversial, but based on the video it reminded me of the mixed reactions to Breath of the Wild. The situation is pretty much like Assassin's Creed where the newer installment changed some of the franchise's core mechanics drastically. I remember that the older Zelda players are complaining the game's non-linear gameplay, vast but pretty much empty world, short dungeons, and breakable weapons. It also has something to do with Breath of the Wild having no coherent place in the franchise's lore which the community is very fixated on. That's why that part of the community is quite watchful on the upcoming sequel.

I would add Spec Ops: The Line on this list. I remember a lot of critics hated it when it came out. But it also developed a cult fandom.

I loved Cyberpunk. I played it when it launched on PC. Faced some slight issues but dont remember anything ruining my experience.

I think praey for the gods is very decisive. A game derived from shadow of the colossus which was a great game itself, I believe praey was a great game.

Fallout 4 is like this as well. Most people love the game but there are some that hate it with such a passion you'd think Todd Howard killed their parents.

Just started Cyberpunk 2077 for the first time a few weeks ago and honestly I've been really enjoying it. When I saw the state it was released in I told myself I'd wait a few years for it to be fixed and that seems to be the case now

Man I was excited for Gotham Knights, Batgirl is my absolute favorite character, but man the novelty wore off quick and it made me replay the Arkham series and helped me realize what was so great about those games.

As someone who is entirely fed up and finished with modern gaming, I only played one game from this list and enjoyed it so much that I did 2 playthroughs back to back of near 100% completion. That game was Cyberpunk 2077 and I played it January of last year (2022). There was a couple of big updates during my time with it and I definitely put over 200 hours into it. No microtransactions or other predatory bs. Great gameplay and story and graphics and everything. I had zero expectations going in and I loved it. I think it is still the newest game in my collection.

Game criticism can be so exhausting sometimes. You just know when an assassin's Creed game releases people are going to complain about it. Sometimes you just want to play a game and enjoy it and so I don't even bother reading reviews if a game really hooks me on the concept. If you set out to have a good time, you're probably going to have a good time. Even if the game is not great

My big gripe with Valhalla is once you got your “power” past say 160 you’re pretty much unbeatable even to like higher level threats.

With Valhalla I absolutely loved it, but according to the player base my 90 hours I dumped into it wasn’t long enough lol I was told it should have taken me closer to 120 hours or so

I absolutely loved Mafia 3. And most people hated it. I liked it so much, I played through it three times, and started a fourth.

For SCORN, i think people hate it a lot because they thought about it as a shooter, but when i played it i thought it was just a walking sim and was surprised when i found out you had guns!

Cyberpunk was a very good game, but also very buggy at times. I myself, love this game. But I don't think it will ever get to be as big as many of the games out there. I hoping future updates make it even more awesome.

I vividly remember watching Nakey Jakey talk about The last of us 2, and at the end of his couple hour video the editing just pans out, and it's just him on his Yoga ball in front of his green screen. Hearing him say "I'm just dissapointed.", then opening a beer and just drinking it followed by months of inactivity hit really hard for me personally.

Another few games I can think of that left fans divided are the Evil Within franchise, cold fear, and a recent one the callisto protocol

I’m a big Assassin’s Creed fan. Been playing since the first and Origins is my favorite, but I too lost steam with Valhalla.

Awesome video. Another recent, more low key one I feel is Wanted: Dead. It without question has issues. But there’s a good amount who love it.

I didn’t give cyberpunk a chance for the longest time and had a negative opinion about it, but I got it on a sale and really fell in love with it.

Valhalla was awesome. 240+ hours for 60 bucks is a bargain. People say it was bloated but I say there was tons of things to do. I think there's a lot of people out there who feel anxious or uneasy about finishing a game that so long. They put pressure on themselves to see it all and get all of the achievements. I could care less. I just played a little here and a little there for about 2 years and just enjoyed exploring. Eventually, I completed it.

Cyberpunk is low key a classic

I agree with all the criticisms over Gotham Knights re: feels like a live service game, the game play is weird sometimes, the character designs are off, etc etc. But end of the day, I love it. I love getting to see the Batfam be a family - even if Dick's character is a bit off - and getting to play as all 4 characters gives it a lot of replay value for me. I hope there's DLC or a sequel that really irons out the combat and fixes the designs.

I think this also applies to certain Sonic games, including Frontiers. From what I could tell, a lot of fans, myself included, absolutely loved the game & think it's one of the best 3D Sonic games ever! Some critics, and other parts of the fandom...not so much. It sits at an odd area when it comes to Sonic games, when Sonic '06, Forces & Boom: Rise of Lyric were universally hated. Or games like Colors & Generations receiving great amounts of praise (which is definitely warranted). While Unleashed is in a similar boat to Frontiers. While Frontiers isn't exactly controversial when compared to the other games on the list, it's reception was definitely interesting.

I just love the world of Cyberpunk 2077 and with mods on the steam deck, I feel like I can "fix" it to what I think it should have been or should be.

Felt a little called out with the valhalla comment but honestly it was because the DLC was locked behind a seperate paywall. I bought the season pass and didnt receive the final update. Was kinda annoyed. Seeing as I have very little money to spend on games, paying for a game, then buying the season pass and not getting what I felt I paid for really turned me off. I feel like I might go back eventually because the lore is just so cool to me and honestly I think I put in over a hundred hours but being so soured and the grind makes it feel like it isnt worth being a completionist here.

i think Wanted : Dead also had to be in this list. it's such a unique game with of course, a lot of jank but under all those weird stuff it's such an interesting game

I've been playing Gotham Knights and I personally love the game for me if give it a 7.5 I also love Cyberpunk, I waited until the price dropped and got it for $25 anything the year it launched. I just waited until I heard it was fixed and then finally installed the game and have enjoyed it ever since.

Final Fantasy XIII. I remember a time when people were arguing for hours over it online

To be honest I didn't expect that Cyberpunk Will be Revive after the negative Initial Release, I was like oh man this game wouldn't last for 2 years, but now they're on top list of steam games and I also played it and I loved it, the fact that they listen and even collaborate with modding community aid this game to the point it's reaching its maximum potential or lets say " the game has supposed to be" some people still hate it and i understand but im in the middle and im glad CDPR redeem themselves.

Of the two I've played: I like Gotham Knights, but I don't have the time or interest to keep going or start a NG+ because it can get repetitive very fast in a lot of the fetch quests and loot grinding. Cyberpunk, though, I LOVE and REALLY wish it had a NG+ so I could replay and collect everything and speed through subsequent playthroughs or keep upping the difficultly. I'm REALLY hoping we get NG+ with this expansion.

Kingdom Come Deliverance is pretty divisive. A masterpierce in my eyes, but due to the broken state it released in (just like Cyperpunk), many is looking down on it, and never wanted to touch it again. Within the RPG fans, there are also haters because of its approach to grouned realism. It's a perfect game, and has many die hard fans.

This is why I love media because everyone has their own opinion what's good or bad. Some want a good story, some want amazing gameplay, some want a little of everything. I love a ton of games that have small or big flaws I completely overlook because I love other stuff about it. It's why I never get people getting hostile over it. Enjoy what you like

I absolutely think DS is the most unique game I've every played and I've never played anything that's more realistic in its physics. The gameplay also most unique.

I still love some these games for things that were included, but im stuck in the middle due to either boring grind, bugs, or odd choices for the story

I absolutely loved days gone. As soon as I beat I turned around and started a new game and played through it again. It sickens me that well never have another one

Dark souls I feel is another series that people either love or hate as well

I'm just over 100hrs into AC valhalla and somewhat addicted to hitting all the side quests and tapping back into the main story now and then. Played like that since AC2 and always enjoyed getting immersed in the AC world of that time. The main thing that I've noticed though is the graphical jump in the latest game. It is mesmerising, I've often just stopped to watch just how the suns rays reflect off the surroundings during a sunset. I've also played AC since day 1 and loved every one of them, but I do agree there were some frustrating times with the bugs and combat (especially in the beginning) but there really is nothing else like it. I do understand the call for developers to change a franchise over time but is not better to have a natural evolvement instead of change for changes' sake? People seem to always call for a "brand new recipe" but never contribute to the new ingredient list.

I waited, and I didn’t play cyberpunk until October of last year until edge runners came out and once I got a hold of it, I absolutely fell in love with cyberpunk I fell over the world. I fell in love with the characters in the stories I can’t wait till the new DLC coming out. I am excited I really enjoy cyberpunk.

I just finished a 150 hour playthrough of Cyberpunk 2077 to 100% completion. I loved the combat and the stealth elements. The quickhack abilities are interesting and provide different ways to deal with enemies from afar. Once you get the double jump or the boost jump at the ripperdoc the game stops feeling so flat and opens up so many routes. I’m about start another playthrough.

I loved playing gotham knights. I spent a crap ton of time playing it and it is one of those rare games that i wanted and did get all of the achievements for. I don't understand the hate for this game.

The thing I can guess about Days Gone is they played about 1/4 and gave up. I'll concede the first half is kinda slow but when you go to the second region it really speeds up.

I played Cyberpunk on stadia so found it pretty stable from the beginning. Probably in my top 10 games of all time.

Despite Cyberpunk being "fixed" it never was or became what they marketed it to be for years... That's why I'm not interested.

I’d say Prey is up there, I remember seeing a lot of people claiming it was bad or at least mid but I recently played through it and loved it

I remember how divisive was the reboot version of Devil May Cry, DmC. It was a nice game with better mechanincs than its previous games but the fact Dante wasn't the same brought some anger for some players. Funny to remember about it.

I'm a huge fan of the assassin's Creed series and I do like the new style of games but I am beyond excited to get closer to the original style

I think I'm at a weird nexus in my video game life. I've been playing AC since the first game. I played almost every game up through AC 4 and got a bit burnt out. The formula was pretty cut and paste up until then with a few innovations (SAILING!). So I took a few years off. Missed Unity, Syndicate, Origins and Odyssey, but came back for Valhalla. Maybe it was that break, or maybe it is the obvious amount of time and effort that they put into creating that world, but Valhalla ended up taking a spot in my top 3 favorite games (with Bioshock Infinite and Red Dead 2). I am excited for Mirage to come back to old school a bit, but I just checked my playtime for AC: Valhalla and I'm at 282 hours and I've loved every minute of it. I have to complete the Forgotten Saga and that's it. Never expected to say it but, outstanding game.

Great video but I have to put in another game fallout 76, I got it when it first came out hated it so much ! There was so many bugs and with it being online kept getting disconnected from servers all time, but decided to give it a go a few weeks ago after 3 years and I’m hooked with it now can’t stop plying, it’s not perfect by any means but it’s a fallout game but they fixed it and added loads of stuff now for new and returning players to keep you playing.

You should do games with the largest learning curve or highest skill gap

Loved *Tenchu Z.* Granted a lot of levels were rinse and repeat. But it was the stealth that was fun and challenging without being boring. Shame that there hasn't been a decent ninja stealth game in ages. (Ghost of Tsushima was brilliant) Yes, I have played the Splinter Cell games, Metal Gear Solids, Thief series, Shadow Tactics and Dishonored. Aragami 1 and 2 were sub optimal. We need Tenchu Z to be remade/remastered/rebooted or whatever.

One fairly small lil controversial game that is loved and hated is the coffin of andy and leyley, specifically chapter 2's true 'good' ending. Quick rundown of the game rq, its a psychohorror game that uses unnerving thing such as cannibalism and more to scare dem player. The one that divides the player is the second vision on good ending(either the vision itself or the argument after) more known as the 'questionable route Heres a lazy description on what happened on this part Earlier before going on good ending route, the protagonists (theres 2, theyre siblings) dont have the best relationship. Good ending basically fixes this. They go to parent house, parents gaslight the protags like no tommorow, kidnaps parents. Parents try to offer them to stay bc protags homeless. The one (the male protag) refuses and threatens parent not to talk bad to the other protag (female one) Parents then deduce canon sex, protag suprised, they sacrifice parent to demon, then eat parent soup. They go to sleep and get shared vision. The good route vision actually shows canon sex (dev specifically said the protags are blood related, dev fears no gods) they wake up and argue about how incest is somehow worse than parenticide desecration If you ask someone, half will argue its fine bc ofc the things happened earlier is much worse and this one is rather comedic. The other one (twitter basically) for some reason draws the line at incest and absolutely despises game (some haters also doxxed dev so dev hides now) Anyways great game 10/10 even without good end

Yea I loved Cyberpunk I spent $5.00 and it was def one of the better games I played on my ps4.

CyberPunk 2077 went from a buggy mess at launch to one of my favorite games of all time with the last patch. Its perfect now on next gen at least. I just played it to completion a month ago and look forward to the DLC. Anyone on the fence with that game I'd say if you have a next gen console its worth it now, if you don't wait til you do. Trying to force that game to be cross gen was the mistake imo. They should have just went all in on the next gen.

I have a massive one: Every single Total War game since Empire TW. The extreme lack of quality of the new engines (to the point where the early 2000s titles completely outclass the new collision physics in a noticeable and frustrating way), the active direction to a more arcady style and slacking on the general aesthetics of the UI that made Med2 and Rome1 so immersive, the absolutely price gouging DLC practices with not only day 1 Early release DLCs but also literally withholding blood from a game about battles and charging you to get it, and the complete destruction of siege warfare (at least since Rome 2) has just been crushing to the historical fanbase that built the games to what they are. But at the same time, the mobilization of the Warhammer fanbase and giving it an official TW (even if it is low quality) has saved the company despite how much the core games have been chopped to pieces. It's at the point now too where the Warhammer fanbase is starting to even get frustrated with the new games and most historical fans have refused to buy even the new historical titles until they prove themselves and so CA designs the historical titles to be semi-fantasy in order to try to blend the fanbases but has only made the historical base more angry and failed to convert the fantasy fans.

For me, the worst part about Cyberpunk 2077 is that it isn't Shadowrun. You could EASILY add a magic system and add the different races to it and it would be infinitely better. That said, I really do like it quite a bit.

I absolutely love Cyberpunk 2077! Never been so immersed in a game's world before. I played it not long after doing a second paythrough of RDR2, so that's saying something.

My friends and I really enjoyed playing through Forspoken recently. Amazing combat and traversal, didn't find Frey to be nearly as annoying or unreasonable as most people. Also a remarkably bug free game, didn't encounter a single crash or fall through the world once. Not the most stable of frame rates but the lack of bugs was noticeable and impressive. Also can I say... it's hard to find games that have cool water magic that is actually effective. Most just jump straight to ice for everything. Main theme is a banger too. Not perfect but definitely enjoyed playing it

Watchdogs 1! I played it late and really liked it but hear all over this channel that people hate it. Excited to try the sequels soon.

I personally love AC: Valhalla. I haven't finished it yet. I love the gameplay, and the story. I spent 20 hours just doing stuff before I even made it to England. Lol. Then it basically opened up as if I had just spent 20 hours on a tutorial. I was shocked. Lol.

I instantly thought of Days Gone when I saw this video pop up. I loved it! The first half is slow but when that second half of the map opens the game is incredible. Very good ending with possibly the best ending song in any video game

Cyberpunk 2077 was a great game. I played on pc and had no issues at launch so I was lucky enough to truly experience the game with no souring of my experience. I've beat it with 4 different builds and done every side quest, and I can't wait for more.

My biggest one is remnant from the ashes. Played that a year or two back when it was on gamepass. Honestly one of the best gameplay experiences I've had. Especially online play and teaming up with people. Even more so the challenge mode where you've got to survive 10 rounds for the best reward. I did it once and I hadn't jumped about like that since I was a kid. One of the greatest games out at the moment and it's just percieved as "Poverty dark souls with guns"

Getting Gotham Knights for $20 made it an easier pill to swallow.
