ABOUT A TO ZEN LIFE
Along my journey to let go of 30 years of clutter, I accidentally became a minimalist and it was life-changing.
Before, I was an emotional hoarder with nothing but the clutter from lost loved ones - and $25,000 of debt - to my name. Now I have a beautiful home in Europe, a happy family, live debt-free, and - best of all - wake up to a life that I’m EXCITED to live every day.
My mission is to help you conquer your clutter and simplify YOUR way to a happier and better life. HERE'S OUR STORY: atozenlife.com/about-a-to-zen...

Hi Marissa, it's the first time of my life (i'm 48) that i write a comment in English. I'm french and i watch your vidéos to improve my compréhension. So, thank you for two reasons : the English lesson and the minimalism lesson, equaly intéressants.

You're doing great! As a native English speaker myself I understood everything you wrote. It wasn't perfect but it was really good! Honestly you write better than a lot of native speakers I know. You've definitely passed the conversational milestone. I get so excited and proud when people learn English because it is very hard. Keep writing in English because you're amazing at it, don't let your hard work go to waste!

Such great ideas. It took me a good portion of my 66 yrs to learn how not to use food for comfort so that doesn’t work for me. But, I love the idea of a good book, favorite movie, jigsaw puzzle, connecting with friends and cup of hot tea to relax, unwind and recharge. Thank you for this wonderful topic. 😍

I can see that litlle elephant on your shoulders. I wish I could give you big, strong hug. I think it is important, to find some time only for ourselves. I found out, that I just need to have me for myself. Not for hour or two stolen during the day, but for whole day or two. Cause this is the only way to focus only on me, my thoughts, my feelings, my needs. And, when I'm back, to treasure more my family and all things, that I've got.

My favorite comfort food is opening one of my home canned jars of food, in fact just looking at my rows of colorful jars gives me pleasure. In the summer I can fruits and vegetables and opening a jar brings back feelings of summer. The fall is my favorite time to can meals in jars. So far this fall I have canned chicken breast in three recipes, beef stew and stroganoff, chili, three kinds of beans, pork carnitas and pork BBQ and a few other things. We are retired and it is also a nice hobby for my husband and I to do together. Right now I am crocheting, watching your video and waiting for the kettle of pinto beans to finish. My canner hold 17 jars so it is a big accomplishment each time. Thank you for another lovely video.

My mom's traditional poached chicken with ginger scallion sauce! I've noticed during periods of high stress, I find myself craving it. I'm lucky enough where we live in the same city so I would give her a call to let her know I'll be coming over on the weekend and to have the chicken ready!

Such a great video! I loved your poetic wording. I do watch nostalgic time period - 1940s black and white movies as well as tv shows from my childhood the 1970s. Looking for humor to relieve the stress. The food would be sloppy joes, tater tots and pickles. Very insightful to recognize a tired heart versus sleep deprivation - very different. God bless

Thank you for this! Without going into a lot of personal details, we currently have a temporary living arrangement, and watching your newer videos, especially this one, has been very encouraging with our situation. I can get pretty (sometimes unconsciously) down because almost everyone else I follow has a permanent home and asks questions like, "Is your home authentic? Is it reflecting your values?" Well, right now, no, it's not. Haha. I would love to have a 3-4 bedroom home in the country! So I appreciate reminders to cultivate cozy anyway, where we're at. One favorite comfort food is just really good homemade (or bakery) bread and butter.

My mother's grilled cheese sandwich with home-made cream of tomato soup! I'm nostalgic just thinking about it. She grated Fontina and Gruyer and sharp cheddar together and frequently sprinkled in some finely mined tomatoes, bell peppers, or scallions and invariably used a hearty sourdough bread. Yummy! It could be below zero outside, and that meal envelops me with warmth.

These are great ideas! I'm going to write them down so I don't forget them and try to incorporate as many as I can. Life has been rather stressful lately, so I need some rest. My favorite comfort food is cheesy tuna noodle casserole. I make it from scratch, but with Velveeta, because it's the best for that amount of cheese. It's a recipe I actually came up with on KY own years ago and my grown boys and husband actually love it. After that it's homemade chicken pot pie. We're having that this weekend at the request of my oldest son. It's his day off and he just needs his mom to cook him something yummy!

I was raised out in the country and we had a woodstove and at the age of 15 I would make my own pies and bread every week on the woodstove and dad would make homemade Irish too and when I made buns and took them out of the oven. I would put the homemade butter that my dad bought from the freshly baked buns. And then I would take my hoi made jam that came out of our garden. And that brings back good memories.

Oh yeah, rewatching or rereading is the most relaxing thing EVER. I used to listen to the same stories „Benjamin Blümchen“ (as you lived in Germany maybe you know it) over and over again. And now I reread a lot of my books when stressed. That’s the reason why I keep a lot of them. It is not just the text but the smell, the known wrinkles in the pages that got wet 15 years ago when I took the book to school… My books are time capsules. I remember the season when I first read them, the tea I drank, the music. And my favorite cosy rewatch is probably Clueless. Not my usual taste but somehow…

My aunt was the last person to ever make it for me and I can't find the family recipe for it. I miss her so much.

My comfort foods are Skyline Chili (a restaurant chain originating in Cincinnati, OH) and fufu and okra ( a west African dish)

I ❤ skyline. The closest one is three hours a way. But if I’m ever heading that way I must stop and get a fix.

My comfort food is cabbage soup with siskon sausage. On the side I have some rye bread with a lot of butter 😊I had it a lot as a child growing up, now I'm 29 and love making it at home, especially during autumn.

Love this list. I love having warm chocolate pudding and then coziness under my favorite fluffy blanket

These are such great ideas! I'm currently trying to slow down my rhythm as fall and winter hit, but it can be difficult when there is always another project to do. Thanks for the reminder that even just a small cozy habit can help bring that sense of slowness. :)

Thinking back to my childhood comfort foods, one of my favorite was beef stew with dumplings. Just thinking about it and my mom making it makes me feel warm and cozy. Thanks for the reminder. 💕

Favourite savoury comfort food is cheese on toast with a good strong cup of tea, or else cottage pie. If I want something sweet, then welsh cakes or rock buns, made to my grandmother's recipe. I love curling up with a good book and a cosy blanket, especially by candlelight - and any time I need to buy a new mug, I test it out for 'huggability' first - it has to feel just right when I wrap my hands round it!
