I envy you for your adventures, and am thankful you've shared your experiences. I could have quit my job to do that too, but I didn’t and you did… On any given adventure, more seldom than you’d like I’m sure, you encounter bear, moose, etc., and the reason you do so is you venture far off the beaten path. Remote. “Normal” people don’t get these types of encounters very often. It’s easy to say people see bears all the time, and people have moose in their back yards. These people aren’t 4 days away from help. They aren’t in a spot where no one will hear their cries for help. I have been remote, but not likely as far as you. People that haven’t been there don’t appreciate the “No one’s going to be here to help me if I need help” scenario. The Zolio is a great tool, but so is a gun, and guns don’t help when you need a doctor. Thanks again for sharing your adventures.

Being a hermit has its advantages. I can watch this video while eating my thanksgiving dinner without familial interruptions. 😆 It was cool seeing the big overview map to put it all in perspective for those of us in the states. You were way up there. I used to live 90 miles due south of Montreal on A15(?), which is interstate 87 in New York. I don’t think it will be long before you post a “How to install a spray deck” video 👍🏻 Fantastic trip video. Thanks Jon and Erin

"Acorns of this bliss in my mental soil", that's pure poetry and with the dampened guitar, pipes and opening video footage, one of the best first few minutes of any YT video this year, by anyone. Personally I don't think you're a wus for not hanging around that cabin, I look after a lonely farmhouse that was the inspiration for the Hound of the Baskervilles, it gives me the creeps after hundreds of trips there. Great footage of the bear and some of the best yet of moose. The voice overs are a nice touch, they put me in mind of my 'hero' Bill Mason, keep doing what you're doing. Hope you and your 'pocket rocket' are well...Rohan salutes you ;)

One of my favorites ever Jon. And your words about the canoe and what it means to you, and how end of season feels… had me tearing up. I do have to ask about those Trapper cabins tho. Were those just a free-for-all on public/crown land or did they have leases/permits. I think the closest thing we have here in Minnesota is leases in state and national forest land for hunting shacks. I just find the concept so fascinating. Keep up the good work!
@LostLakes
@LostLakes 2 года назад
Truly appreciate that Max 💚 It's a first world problem I guess, but it hits some of us hard this time of year. The golden rule here is that a citizen can only occupy a crown land camp site for 21 days, after which point they have to move at least 100m. The first one on the river I'm sure would've been a trapper's cabin and I believe they never own the land but are given a permit for their trapline. The junkyard might've been a trapper's, but also could've been a fly-in outpost camp in which case I think it's most likely they'd be given a land use permit to build on the land (but might never own it). The third creepy one could be the same, or even a personal recreation camp where they owned it. My understanding is that the gov will rarely sell land these days, but back in the day it happened sometimes. If anyone understands this stuff better, feel free to correct me

It's nearly March in New Hampshire, so I relate so much to your comments about that first spring paddle. Your channel has helped me not only get through the long winter months for entertainment and relaxation purposes, but has given me ideas and strategies for my spring trips. I'm desperate to get my new esquif in the water, rehydrate some meals, and sit by the camp fire as I listen to the loons lull me to sleep. With any luck I will hook into a walleye, trout or pike, but I think I will debarb and release. I am anxious for the ice to melt so I can immerse myself in nature once more and feel myself become free.

Thankyou for wearing a life jacket. I'm a Kayaker and always wear my life jacket. I'm excellent swimmer but want to be safe.

You make me look forward to wonderful adventures in the wilderness with my girlfriend. I started showing her how to fish. By the same token, watching your videos is helping me get through depression by giving me something to hold on to. Thank you

This masterpiece of film and place, and your gift of articulate relaxed narration, just send me to a place so necessary for my landlocked, restricted, troubled mind. Please, i'll pay Richard Branson prices for you to take me ! Hats off sir.

Paused the video at the "to season this fish I've got some wild grass and flowers..." it's one thing to say something that's really funny, but another to set the stage! Loving the content. Take care of that thumb. Cheers.

Hahah much appreciated Rick! My thumbprint may be forever changed but otherwise no worse for wear :)

Honestly dude. You are the only youtuber that I follow that when I am bored I go back and rewatch your old content. You are a great film maker. I have probably watched this 3 times now. So cool. I hope your knee is not keeping you from getting after it. Injuries suck...
