I totally dislike the chopped pillows!🤪 I like fluffy soft pillows instead. I like COLOR, too..both of which aren’t ‘popular’ right now..guess I am a rogue decorator, heehee!
I'm a visual merchandiser for a small local store. I really love your videos! I use the tips from them to help me with designing displays. Recently I've been getting compliments from customers even! Thanks for sharing! Great insights!

I’d LOVE a video on how to incorporate old heirlooms, antiques, or meaningful items that might not look the right style, into a home!! My struggle is I have things that I love but I struggle finding place for them with the look I’m going for, but I see other people incorporate old and new and different styles effortlessly. I have a lot of things that I feel make a house feel childish but I know other people do great and showcasing these things really well (nerdy posters, nerdy figurines, old family clocks, old paintings). Also if you could please please recommend some books on home decor and making a house a home that would a great as I really trust your judgement 💕
i'm struggling with the exact same thing. i got some amazing quality stuff from my great grandma......that looks sooo dated if i just put it on display as is. i'm just trying to match their color, but it's.... hard
Such a good one-- I love mixing in the old with the new! Like a new, modern frame with matting for a poster, or putting my old clock or lantern on my mantle next to some new items. Love this topic 👏 ❤
I do the placement of 3 decor items and it is like Magic for spaces as well as much of the other tips you gave. Was just reaffirming that these tips make a difference. Over the years shopping high end furniture stores has helped to realize color And placement are key and going for a cohesive look. Finally to younger women take charge of your home environment don’t be bullied by a guy but do Keep comfort in mind.✨✨
The 57 inches mid point for art work was really important for me to learn. I never knew this tid-bit of information & cant wait to go in & measure how far off my art is off or on que! Thanks for all the fantastic advice. Can’t wait to see more from you...
Really love that you show pictures of not only what looks great and cohesive, but pictures that are showing examples of things that don’t look put together correctly. So many videos I’ve seen only show what is correct and stylish. Thank you for such a well done video. New subscriber!
I love being in Tennessee. I love bringing in the mountains and just the feel of being outdoors in TN. My house is all about being outdoors. I got these curtains for the living room with mountains on them and a lake that’s my color pallet. It’s sprinkled though out the house.
One principle I think is really important (that dovetails with Scale) is Visual Weight. Making sure that the furniture and decor you use have appropriate visual weight REALLY helps! Visual weight is a product of factors such as size and color (and even pattern). For instance, bold colors are interpreted by the brain as visually heavier. Knowing this will help you maintain balance among your furniture and objects. A lazy boy is going to look heavier than a traditional chaise. Generally, it’s a good practice to stick to one area of the spectrum (e.g. it’s not recommended to decorate with both a delicately framed chaise and a chunky lazy boy in the same space). : )
Thank you for your generous wealth of valuable information! So many self-perported experts on RU-vid give little or none. Plus, your videos are professionally top notch. Last but not least, you're absolutely adorable, lovable and easy to watch. Kudos to your adorable parents too!
I tried your idea and rearranged my room. Now I have to patch picture hanging holes, rehang pictures and get a bigger rug. I’m so close to perfection. And I had so much fun! But my husband is cursing you. Hahaha. I am not following your tips to be stylish but because the room just is so much I believe the room is now much more comfortable and inviting. I am following your tips. It makes the space more comfortable and it took me one evening to do it. I think we will get a bigger rug because once I see your tips everything is so obvious. It makes really great sense and your pictures are also really awesome. I feel like I see everyone’s space now differently. Thanks a ton!
My husband and I are building our first home, so I found this video extremely helpful! My biggest challenge is making everything cohesive. I found the wall decor rule to be the most helpful because in the past places we have rented, we had paintings too high up or not high enough :/ the decorating in groups of 3 is my favorite tip & I’ll definitely be applying that to the new home 🤍 thank you for sharing!
Much fun with your new home! Watch that part about groups of 3 again and see, that it is not everywhere, for then it looks very superficial. See that picture with the book shelves? Some are in groups of 3, but there are also 2 balanced ones (another tip) and even 1 bigger item down below. Thus it stays inviting for the eyes to watch and not weirdly staged.
I feel like my mind just expanded! I have always been frustrated with my lack decorating skills, despite my high level of interest. I am looking around at my home now and it’s like you highlighted exactly what needs to be changed! I can do this. TY!!!!
Amazing!!!! This was the only video I needed to watch rather than watching style ideas for hours and still feeling lost and overwhelmed with decorating. Thank you!!!! 🥰🥰🥰❤❤❤
Kristen, thank you so much for this video! After so many years of mismatching (pretty much everything), you just showed me what adjustments I need to make. I look forward to watching your other videos!
I absolutely love learning tricks and tips about decorating! It's my favorite thing. The moment you said 57 inches to the middle of the picture I got up and went to measure!! Yay! I was pleasantly surprised!! Thanks for sharing!
This was a really good video. It gave specifics: karate chop pillows and then pull up the ends; 57" picture height, etc. The specifics are what set this video apart from every other interior design video.
Hi Kristen, do you have any tips on achieving Scandinavian style with dark wood floors? BTW my fiancé and I are moving to a new townhome next month and I watched almost all ur videos. Super helpful and inspirational!
I like all of the decor info. My livingroom, dining room and kitchen have the same color palate as well as my bedroom. The guest room has a different color palate. So I guess I am doing something right.
Thank you for a video that provides information and tools to use, not one that left me feeling like I've been scolded. I will be on my own for the first time in 30 years and want to discover my style but do it with style. I can't understand houses designed and decorated by committee. I think I have found my guide.
I love Kirstens tips for decorating our homes she allows your mind to connect to colour , texture, organisational skills which you new you had with a little driving lesson.x
I’m Using one color palette throughout the open areas and little different for bedroom and now that you are recommending it, I’m more confident about what i did 🤗
I watch these kinds of videos all the time and hardly ever comment on them, but this house is astonishingly particularly love the natural materials, with all their textures and gave my apartment in hands of a designer from Snugverse, it's the best choice I ever made.
Great tips! I’ve always followed the tip about placing art at eye level. I love all the pictures you put in your videos, it really helps me see exactly what you’re talking about.
Great tips! To add on, I've found that adding a circular mirror above any small piece of furniture (nightstand, dresser, entryway table, short bookshelf) helps "finish" the space!
Best overall, concise advice seen in months. I thought l knew quite a lot of this but your clear uncluttered theory and examples or what to do and what not to do, was fantastic. I can now see what l need to do...l have areas that work but need to be cohesive with all my areas and rooms. Respect to you. Thank you. 😘
Hey there Kristen. Bless from NJ I just bought a house. Then I started to look for home makeover videos and interior design-related resources. Then I found you!! I really like your content and your beautiful smile! I've always been interested in interior design but I chose graphic design instead throughout my school year and career. Your videos help me understand how to decorate a home much better. Thank you for sharing your insight and videos! 💛💛💛🙋♀🙋♀🙋♀
I’m always sad when I see cute decorated coffee tables because my huge dog would take that all down with one tail swipe lol 😪 thank you for all your tips!
You don't want a coffee table decorated, trust me, you'd have to remove the decoration to make room for whatever plate or cup you want to place on the table and in time you would avoid using that coffee table at all.
I don't know anybody but you who is so enthousiastic and motivated about their work/hobby . I like that about you and your videos. Keep on going❤️🇳🇱 (greetings from The Netherlands)
Thanks for the tips. I'm gonna have to measure all my pictures now to 57"! And you've inspired me to keep the same color palette throughout the house. Keep on with your talent. You're inspiring and informative.
Love the casual vibe of these videos and inserting lots of examples as you talk :) . We’ll be moving soon so excited to follow through these tips and binge more of your videos!
My favorite thing about the groups of 3 was the use of the word "groups". I have heard this a long time but in my head it was previously "items". Groups makes a big difference.
@@alohaleslie9407 I hope so! It looks so dated and just so weird. Pillows are supposed to look soft and fluffy and chopping them makes them look sharp and dense.
@@imjustdoingmybest6236 When pillows are chopped, it doesn't invite me to sink in and sigh. Awwww, how comfy. Nope, it makes me think that the person who chopped wants everything to look perfect. DO NOT TOUCH. How inviting is that???
Omg i re-did my room closet with high-lites of Black! Did the floor, window & door frames. Llloooovvvveee it!! I never thought i wud fall in love with black paint but it makes the space so magical! So magical, i high-lited my banister & working on painting some more door frames. It really lets the other colors stand out! 💖
This is just one person‘s opinion but I do NOT like the “karate-chop” look on pillows. I’ve raised my children and have grandchildren, and it looks like they were either playing on my bed or messing around on my couch (when I see a karate-chop pillow), and I wanna walk over and fluff it back up.🤷🏻♀️🙀 ••• I don’t 100% dislike it but I just think it looks unkept and Messy!! But other than that; I love your ideas and I have learned a lot from them so thank you for all the fresh ideas...👻👻 Take care, stay healthy and be well 🧡🎃🤍👻🧡
Perfect timing for these tips. I’m about to finally decorate my dining room walls with some pictures so the 57” eye level tip is one I’ll def try. Thx!!
Thank you for this! How do you recommend styling a wall over a couch with a cathedral ceiling? The 57” guideline doesn’t quite fit, although the bottom row of my arrangement is close to 57”. I took my arrangement much higher because of my ceiling.
Apryl Burtchin I was wondering the same...it’s really hard to try to make things look good with tall ceilings and is not very common to find decorative ideas that help
Wow! I watch a lot of interior design videos and that was super informative and quick! You speak very fast yet clear. Seriously, you managed to talk about a lot of important things in 11 minutes + examples. Quality video.
Great advice each time.....can very easily connect with what you say....as l too have been keeping most of the tips you have given ....in mind ....while decorating my home....for the last 35+ years....Luv watching your Videos....God bless 🤗🤗🤗🤗😇
I think so, and you may need to find larger pieces of artwork that can fill more of the space. I think back to a part of the video that mentioned finding balance in the room. The pieces of art work will need to balance the walls to the rest of the room. I hope I made sense.
Last year I redecorated our living room and put two throw pillows on the couch, and sure enough when my man sat on the couch he threw them on the floor. 😆 I put up a fight for a few weeks, but lost. The throw pillows ended up in the garage. That's the difference between an beautiful idea and the reality of it's functionality for the family. 💕
Although I do think that maybe I think this way because I'm bad at decorating and designing for a space as a whole. Like I can bang out a shelf or a desk or a wall and make it look good but for an entire room to look conducive or house to look cohesive is really overwhelming so I think I just like to keep it to a minimalist look and have everything have a purpose so it makes the most sense for my brain
I love her and her videos! She is adorable and very talented. But that about the pillows is the only thing on this video that I don’t agree with. Actually , I can’t stand that look! I’ve heard great interior designers saying that displaying pillows like that is a big NO NO these days. It is a debatable habit, not a rule! I will never do that to my pillows! It does not look good. I hope she doesn’t mind my comment. I don’t mean to offend.
I HAVE NO IDEA HOW I WENT SO LONG WITHOUT YOU IN MY LIFE #NEWSUBBIE I'M LITERALLY BINGE WATCHING YOUR CHANNEL RIGHT NOW! WHAT A PLEASURE 🥰 SO MANY GEMS! 💎
do not really have an idea of decorating but i do love to become an interior designer..just watching this gave me the sense of what is like to be one.it was really helpful, thanks alot
I just discovered you 👌🏻 I’m from Switzerland and the style of our homes are different but your tips are precious. I will try immediately to apply these and make my home more cohesive and design even with small budget. Thanks a lot 😍
I’m glad I found this video. I didn’t know how high to hang a picture. The tip on groups three was great and how to balance a room. The color balance was excellent too. Thank you so much 😘
Im moving really soon and I’m so excited to add more decor to our home. I struggle with layering things and making it look cohesive. Thanks for the tips!
The Home Styling Guide has been designed for people who want to improve their home and decorate it professionally. In times of a global pandemic people spend more time at home and and many of us have taken this time to look for ways to make our personal spaces more beautiful.
Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow. You are just amazing. I am learning soooooooooo much from you. I feel like I’m going to school 🏫!! You truly are a gem and thank you for all the tips. My home is going to thank you!
I recently moved into a new condo which already has a million dollar view of the entire city of San Diego all the way out to the ocean and beyond. It was painted in neutral gray tones with pure white trim, but I painted three walls in the entry area a flat black, along with one wall in the small hallway just beyond. I am just loving it, and it looks so much more elegant for such a minor change. It also makes my artwork look like museum pieces when they are hung on those walls. Wish I could send a photo, but I can't on this format.
