This video never gets old masterful.playin by the MASTER HIMSELF IM GLAD I WAS LUCKY ENOUGH TO WATCH AND HEAR YOU PLAY ...BADA**!! IF I DO SAY SO MYSELF ...
The way Steve G sets Eric up for his solo - just beautiful. That point at 5:38 where they both 'hit' their respective instruments completely in sync, and Eric is off, whilst Steve continues to keep that steady rhythm in the only the way he can. Building this up just past the 6min mark, you just know there is going to be a climactic explosion of playing from Eric as he digs in that bit harder, turns up the volume a bit more, adds some boost?, gets into his groove with some repetitive phrasing and at 7:42 you are just willing him to completely let rip, Steve adding more of his kit into it. Then at 8:10 or so - shivers down my spine as Eric goes into another world.
A brilliant solo! Brilliant Rhythm section! Clapton helped the world to get to know the big ones like Bob Marley and the humble ones like J.J.Cale, and that is also a great merit, absolute respect Mr. Eric !!! He used to say in an interview that there is no permanent band, but when he wants to play, he calls the best and who of them has time to play, it just happened, and we have this film.
I met you at the roundabout on the A40 at the Wembley Exit Sir Eric in 1992...it made my day, month, year, life...........we played air guitar.... we had fun for ten seconds......thank you .... we all love you!
Personally I think its the best version of this song from clapton. The intro is amazing. He never played it like this before. (not at crossroads, Hyde Park etc) Thanks for the upload. Greetings from Germany
Great improvisation. This song never feels old as EC always adds a tinge of new. Many friends think I m nuts listening to all these versions but there are subtle differences that make for pleasurable hearing. Plus EC can do it live unlike the Beliebers who lip sync.
I’ve seen Eric many times over the years. I even saw him twice in one week while he was on tour. Different sets each night which was amazing. There’s one thing with EC he may not be the fastest but who cares when Eric’s in the zone you get transported to another place. He plays with passion and it just flows out of him it’s mesmerising I watched him play after midnight twice just a few days apart and the solos were completely different but both times brilliant. That’s true skill
I could listen to this all day long! The timing of Steve is impeccable just listen to the very first note/strum of the solo at 5:38 Clapton & Gadd were made for each other..
Could not agree more. I absolutely love how Steve plays in this track. It's as if he is ever, ever so slightly behind the beat - and yet he makes it work. (I'm not a drummer so not sure if this accurate :))
Seen Eric Twice and I have never heard him Solo better than this. Absolutely on fire . Can I also give a mention to Steve Gadd . He has to be in any bodies Top Ten Drummers of all time . The man can play anything . Along with Nathan It’s a Titanic Rhythm section.
Thats whats great about blues players. From Clapton to Slash, Bonamassa, etc since Improv is inherited within blues you'll see some nights they are in the zone and other nights not so much.
Together with the sensitivity of steve gadd drives him to an amazing solo part. perfect band, powerfull drive, and the Ladies....wow, so sexy voices and lips! i hope i will see him again, when the pandemic thing had been endet.
Of course it has to be one of the best cos the greatest legend of all time the steve gadd is on the drums and Nathan east on bass... And Eric Clapton is a legend
Eric Clapton, Nathan East, and Steve Gadd represent a superstar rhythm team. No body gets in the way. Even as a bass player, when I hear EC playing I want to do some serious air guitar playing.
Suddenly there I was, centerstage, was I dropping into the zone? Yes, I think I was. I just seemed to float away. Trying to follow where my guitar was going. One Eric’s best jams.
So many musicians, but one of em knows what to do,whitout any kind of billshit! But there,s a Buddy Rich,Nathan East........ect.! I,m a fan of Ritchie, but Eric are awesome and incredible at that show!!!
I remember being thrown in the drunk tank when I was young. They had piped in radio, and when this song started playing, and everyone in the jail cheered!
