Another fun fact, when Eminem starts talking about Papa Doc's past...apparently he did a little research on Anthony Mackie's real life so some of the bars are real and Anthony Mackie's reaction is real.

The first guy who battles Eminem is Proof, his childhood best friend who died years ago and was the straw that caused Eminem to OD and briefly die (literally) (listen to the song Castle & Arose)

NO IT IS NOT........ what the hell are you people on? Proof makes TWO TINY APPERANCE'S in the crowd during the battles. HE NOT ON THE STAGE EVER. 34:50..... RIGHT THERE hes in the crowd with a Detroit hat on laughing and looking at somebody to his left. THAT IS PROOF. 35:30.... There he is again giving daps to Eminem. THAT IS PROOF. I can't believe you people think you know all this shit about these people and cant even recognize his face OR his voice... His voice is 10x deeper then the dude on stage. Now sit down kids and go do your homework. Almost every single person in the crowd is somebody who's part of the industry, A rapper or manager or beatmaker... I can't stand people like you guys. You CLEARLY don't even listen to the music and yet think you know everything.

My favourite part about the Proof performance in the first battle with Rabbit is when he spells out his real rap name in the battle. "I'll Punish Rabbit Or Obselete Future!" Rip Proof. The character Future is based on Proof, down to the old hairstyle Proof used to rock.

When this movie came out, I had absolutely no intention of giving it another thought. I was an already established classic rock aficionado, and Rap was just a flash in the pan that had no business existing. I was in my late 20s and all that mattered was rock and roll. My nephew and I were gonna spend a day together, so I suggested a movie, and he could pick it out. No need to guess what movie he picked, so there I was stuck in having to see 8 Mile. Well, 10 minutes in to the film, I was mesmerized, and I walked out of that theater a changed man. Lesson learned. Never JUDGE, you are usually wrong.

My only thought was . . M&M’s gotta make his bones to make sure his name is spelled correctly in the credits. 🤣 You can’t beat me down unless I let you. So tear it down before building it up with the knowledge that sticks and stones break bones but words only hurt if you let them.
@existenceisrelative
@existenceisrelative 5 месяцев назад
@@jaygremillion I gotta wonder, how young are you? Because back then, in the right part of the world you _could_ avoid rap music if you weren't into it. Music wasn't _quite_ the bowl of bland, grey-goo mush that it was becoming. You could still have music on a plate, in separate food groups. But in hindsight, you can trace the rap bloodline as far back as you care to look.
@cr9477
@cr9477 5 месяцев назад
What album was the first you bought ? Rap ?
@jaygremillion
@jaygremillion 5 месяцев назад
@@existenceisrelative I'm in my early 40's. I grew up in the heart of the deep South. Hip-hop had begun to establish itself in mid 80s and by early 90's rap was well solidified as a major genre. Certainly was well beyond "flash in the pan" by 2002 when this movie came out. As for the correlation with food, I don't know. Pop music blends a lot of styles but beyond that you have more access to any genre from around the world today. So people can still isolate themselves from certain genres if they so please.

8:59 in some parts of Detroit yes, it’s still very ruff and many places are still abandoned. There are entire neighborhoods that are completely gone, but the city is coming up especially in the last 5-10 years. Detroit has been my home for over 30 years and I honestly don’t think I’ll ever leave. Also at 12:51 the parking structure they’re in used to be a gorgeous theatre, it’s still there and it’s still used as a parking structure.

One of my friends in 8th grade was way into Em so her and I snuck into a theater screening to see it, and even then I was way impressed with the film and everyone's performances. A younger, not-yet-famous Michael Shannon as the mom's boyfriend also proved to be a hugely successful actor later in his career now that I was reminded by your reactions to this one. Sometimes you forget how solid this film was when it had no real right to be this good, and Em's acting chops are genuinely great. Your reaction to this flick was as fun as watching the movie for the first time so it's wonderful how you two keep winning at the top of this game! Thank you both for your chemistry, humor, editing, and everything else because you can't recreate something truly special.

Just a thought regarding how you couldn’t imagine Eminem freezing up on stage…you just have to remember this character was based in a time before the Megastar Eminem that you came to know. This is essentially a representation of him finding his voice in the final scenes, just not giving a shit anymore. This was his “moment” that he talks about in Lose Yourself . Prior to this moment, he was only ever good around his boys. That’s why his buddy believed in him so much, because he’d seen it first hand. This is also a characterization of the real life Proof who had the same belief in Em, more so than Em ever did. He’d basically gave up on himself at this stage of his life.

I like when reactors are real about whether they've seen the movie before or not 👍 sometimes people's second time seeing a movie is even better than the first time. You catch more of the little things in the movie the second time.

This is an excellent film. I have heard this film being described as the rap equivalent of Rocky, which is pretty accurate. Eminem not only gave an excellent performance, but he also won the Academy Award for Best Original Song for Lose Yourself, making it the first rap song to win an Oscar, but he wasn’t at the ceremony since he didn’t believe he had a chance to win, so he just slept at home while his daughter watched cartoons. And with his Emmy that he received for the Super Bowl performance with Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg and everyone performing, he’s one award away from being an EGOT winner since he currently is an EGO winner due to him having 1 Emmy, 15 Grammys and 1 Oscar. He just needs to do something for Broadway to get nominated and win a Tony. Great reactions guys, I hope you’re doing well. Have a great weekend and take care!

I never put that together! So true! Very few people have an EGOT! That would be amazing, and a walk in the park for a genius of his caliber. He is one of the greatest artists in human history imo.

@@J4ME5_ Rocky was also about the underdog. Hence why there are people who compare 8 Mile with Rocky.

I'm pretty sure he could write a hip hop Broadway play. Hell they could turn 8 mile into a play and it would be big if done right. Lin Manuel Miranda idolized Eminem and look what he's done.

Suggestion for a movie reaction ... Denzel in "Man on Fire" 2004. Powerful themes...

I’ve watched 8 Mile a dozen of times not because it is my favorite. Nor how influential Eminem’s story is very relatable to our own. But this movie taught me to how find my own individuality like he did.

papa doc really thought to catch him if he would let him get up first , we all need a cheddar bob in our life to be honest to the T.. the ending gave me too much anxiety , thinking they would shoot him after the battle ..watch it 2003 and it's already 21 *mindblown..and like right now i noticed wink checking alex @28.02 and looks at rabbit .. something was up alright..never caught that before
