There are some really cool extras on the DVD. They wind up having rap battles with all the extras on the set. Then the best of the extras win a chance to rap battle Eminem. I'll let you guess how they did, lol.
I just scrolled down to the comments after rewinding to watch that over again a few times because you're absolutely right. I don't think this gets ending gets enough credit for how well it works as the climax of a story. Because of the rap battle ser up, we get to see Rabbit overcome minibosses in quick succession and it's clear the character is in a different mindset than we've seen him in previously. He's really focused in on just him and who he's up against, and he's focusing on the words. When Lickity raps his facial expression doesn't change because I think he's not worried about anything he says. When he walks away, he seems to be being pulled from his thoughts when someone is congratulating him. Against Lotto though he's different. He even smiles at the leave it to Beaver line, and he's watching Lotto less than he watched Lickity. He seems more focused on the words and his response, and I think that focus shows in how he doesn't preamble. He just thinks for a while and goes in with the same high energy Lotto has, and deconstructs him really well. He also opens riffing off the Beaver line which I think really plays well with his next rap against Poppa Doc. I really like the interaction with Cheddar Bob, you can almost see Rabbit realizing "oh shit, I do know everything he could say about me." And his initial dread seems to settle into something more at peace and accepting. Initially he and Poppa Doc don't break eye contact, Rabbit doesn't look away until he's handed the mic. Poppa Doc also gets the advantage here, since he could play off what Rabbit says like he just did with the Beaver line. They have one last stare for the tension to build before Rabbit let's his body fall into the beat and immediately disconnects from Doc to focus on the crowd, because that's what matters right now. I think the movie does a really good job with showing how privilege is complicated, and in this majority black, impoverished, working class environment, Doc is more of an outsider as a child from a wealthy home than Rabbit is as a white guy raised in that environment. Rabbit recognizes this, shows that understanding that he's from here and people will recognize the truth of that. He shows how Doc is the outsider and he tears apart Doc's rap before he has a chance to spit it. After his rap, Rabbit doesn't give Doc any energy to play off, he gives him the stage and sits to the side. When the music starts, Rabbit is bobbing his head cool and collected, while Doc is shaken. And his actor deserves a lot of credit here too, he really sells trying to put on a front while desperately thinking but unable to come up with anything. When he looks to the crowd and stutters you can just see his heart isn't in it, he doesn't think he can do it. He looks over at Rabbit and Rabbit feels his gaze and looks over almost confused by why Doc isn't rapping yet. Cut back to Doc, and on the cut back to Rabbit, just that one second window where you see it hit him is just so fucking good after all the build up. And Eminem does an outstanding job selling that feeling here and it's so understated and real. I'm autistic, I have a really hard time reading people when I'm interacting with them socially, and i dont have a good intuitive sense of how im presenting myself through body language, expression, and tone. I'm always blown away to see actors who understand exactly how to portray the feelings and thoughts they want to. I'm really good now at interacting with people socially and I attribute a lot of it to the access I've had in my teens to media produced with actors who act so well they just feel like that character. It's always cool to watch a master work their craft, and as someone for whom interacting with people is hard work its incredible to be able to watch people who understand it on such a deep level.
Why is nobody asking how "Clarence" got to the final round in the first place😢? He watched the two battles before and was blindsided by what eminem said?
L Jay true L jay he literally made mincemeat out of them that papa doc thought he was gangster stylee that was until be rabbit exposed him.he soon shut his mouth up about his there giving it large.he soon got a dose of his own medicine.
" i hate do this, i would love for this shit to last, so ill take pictures of rear end so you wont forget my ass". " you think niggas gone feel the shit you say?? I gotta better chance joining the KKK". yeah lottos bars were good
I'm so glad Clarence decided to turn a clean slate, change his name to Sam Wilson and fight for the protection of Earth. Ain't no such thing as half-way crooks alright...
It's great how his "dumb friend" Cheddar Bob, easily the lowest IQ of the group, is the one guy to have the foresight to see what's coming. It's due to him being grounded enough after the second win to still recognize the threats ahead, that Rabbit is so well prepared for the final battle.
Also he'd say about how clearance gang is bullsh*t for not being a real gangster, how his gang runs by 6 pussys, etc. Even his leader gang is a disgrace and it is a real fact. He expose it all 😅
8:22- 8:32 the rap battle was won there & then Cheddar put eminem on game "are you embarrased about what he might say" em "what do you mean"....all the stupid stuff duuh He put eminem on game real quick & made him use all his flaws & his friends against papa doc that way he disharmed him cause if you accept your flaws no one can use them against you...thanks chedda em owes you one...
A hidden gem in this scene, is despite the fact that Wink and Rabbit had their falling out, Wink still couldn't help but show he was proud of Rabbit a few times.
That last battle is the most hella genius thing I’ve ever seen. Saying whatever you know he’s gonna say and what you have to say about him, so he can’t say anything new at all.
That’s what the most successful negociations look like in professional or personal life. You always start first « i know you must think I’m trying to poach you, that i don’t respect you enough to do x y and z etc » if you get the person to nod his head or reply with a that’s right, you won half the negotiation.
Cheddar Bob, at two point in the movie, was the inspiration for 50% at least of that last rap battle... Truly interesting parallel if we consider he is supposed to be the slow one and Em’s final battle should be the pinnacle of the movie...
Even if Papa Doc had something to say, you can see he wasn’t going to cause he knew there was zero chance he could match Em. Such a powerful scene, you can just feel the energy.
You know I think cheddar actually helped him go against papa doc, if you think about it Eminem said everything that doc could say about him but only because cheddar mentioned what he might say HMMMMMMMMMMMMMM
Does anyone else get the impression that lotto is encouraging rabbit after he does his part? That “let’s see what you got” sounded genuine. I always got this impression watching it, makes me respect his character.
@@jackc913 It's the age old battle rap argument. What do you prefer more, personals or shock value that gets the crowd going? I agree with you, I think Em lost the first and second round lol, the first guy hit him with personals, and Lotto was just as entertaining as Em and had great stage presence.
I find it funny how Eminem made Clarence lose by roasting himself during the battle, he roasted his own skin, color, the fact that he got jumped and Clarence is just like “oh shit”
Eminem’s acting is very good, he progressively gets more confident as his freestyle progresses and he shows he is confused and anxious when he battles, even though he knows he wins in the scripts
6:09 shout out to the editors, Lickety says “ima fuck you up” in time with the beat so the rhythm of the freestyle isn’t interrupted by the interjection.
*RIP PROOF* 💔🙏🏻✨ WAS LUCKY ENOUGH TO SEE EM & D12 BACK IN 2001 IN THE UK @ LEEDS FESTIVAL , NEVER FORGET THAT NIGHT , I WAS 8MTHS PREGNANT BUT WASNT MISSING OUT ON THAT ... X ...
Yeah I hear the story of proof on the streets all the time when I go to detroit. 8mile was the milestone between the Hood and White Trash, and eminem lived dead smack in the middle. To this day diversity is shitty in detroit. They never really recovered aftered the Detroit Riots. And going past 8 mile during the time after the riots could mean you getting your ass beat as a white man. Proof pretty much gave Eminem the Black Card to go to the hood and mentor Em to embrace his skills. RIP Proof. Detroit is nothing like its past but during the 90s Detroit was very much racist as shit.
Idc what anyone says but Lotto killed Em with every punchline he delivered. Em was trying to clown him with his bars but Lotto brought that 🔥 Lotto R.I.P. 🕊️🕊️🕊️🙏🏾
Damn, I'll always watch this and feel those goose bumps! #8mile Man I knew some of those instrumentals! I think the 1st one is from The Lox (I forgot the title already but I feel it's kinda like a freestyle...), and the one on the last rap battle was by Mobb Deep - "Shook Ones, Pt. 2)
The2012djwess I believe you right on the first one and yea the last one you mos def right on. I remember when that beat came on thinking Em gonna roast this guy for bein a fake
SllssssAhhhhh Good times, good times. Being a kid in middle school when this movie came out, it was the shit back then and watching it as an adult... Still 🔥🔥🔥
Em: you're gonna diss me? Here let me diss me first and do it better than you could, then turn it back on you. How can you diss me when I dissed you and me in the same hook
