Hey, I like this video. And now I like you, you and your approach to your clients. Good job helping others. Thank you for posting this. Hello from Alabama. 🙃

Not sure that I agree with everything you've said but your points are valid. Simply reading a script to a client is not usually effective, although certainly it sometimes can be. However, drafting a script as a guideline, especially when dealing with an issue you haven't dealt with previously, can be useful to collect your thoughts in advance and make sure you don't accidentally leave out something important. Of course, if you specialize in, say, smoking cessation you'll be repeating almost the same patter several times a day, in which case you've simply memorized a script and are modifying it on the fly. I am definitely not a fan of "one and done" hypnosis sessions (Note: I do not do smoking cessation where it sometimes can be successful). Very few issues can be resolved in a single session and I can't have a treatment plan if I have no idea whether the client will return or not. Dealing with weight reduction typically requires a program of at least a few sessions over a period of time. I don't want to see a client any longer than is necessary to provide whatever help I can, but issues like fibromyalgia, irritable bowel syndrome, and similar medical issues simply take time. Trying to resolve them in a single 60-minute session is simply not effective for most clients.

Hi there Luke, that was a very good and enjoyable video, for me scripts work, I will write the script for the person and there it is, the wiser part of myself seems to know, then I consciously read it before the session, I don't think I would like to work any other way. I really liked what you had to say about toxic positivity and being realistic.

Thanks! Although I don't work from scripts, I do like to write a point-form outline of the messages I'm going to deliver for a client's situation, which allows me to speak spontaneously (and helps with informed consent too).

Thank you for sharing your insights from your own experience. I am new to hypnotherapy and a lot of your comments have made me rethink some of the ways I have been taught. I agree so much in regards to how important the pre talk is for both the client and the practitioner. Look forward to seeing more of your videos. Take care and keep safe.

I'm glad the video was thought-provoking -- that's why we make them, so that practitioners and clients alike can see that hypnosis makes complete sense when understood in the ways we describe.
