Lots to unpack here but all I can think about is the Canon lens cap on the nikon body. Great tips Michael, yours are hands down my favourite seascapes.
As someone who’s been practicing seascapes for the past 2 months. The points you brought out couldn’t be more accurate. Slowing down and taking it in has produced my favorite shots ever. Also cleaning the gear right after really does matter. Better sure than sorry. Great stuff always Michael!

Really good - well presented and good content. Getting in the water - bet you've had some fun moments with that... when that mid-thigh water suddenly turns to mid-chest and you're holding everything over your head, getting pushed around, and just hoping you're not about to come down in a hole. Hey thanks so much! I think I actually shot that one with the original Sony A7R. It was either that or my Canon 6D, those were my two most used cameras in 2014.

Love the rocket blower tip. I saw that in one of your earlier videos or maybe the master class. I used it when shooting my first timelapse and it worked awesome. So much better than a lens cloth
Thanks for the tips. LOL. On the south shore of Long Island, New York it is totally flat. Luckily Long Beach has nice rock jetties to anchor the shot. Excellent photos.
Breakthrough Photography needs to send you a TY note bc this video put me over the edge to purchase a 10-stop. Having to adjust my Yosemite trip so the northern coast it is!! I miss the Pacific!!

Thanks Frank, yes definitely clean out the tripod. Every once in awhile I take mine apart to clean. I have broken so many tripods over the years from salt corrosion.
Thanks! Its usually a roll of gaff tape, but I had ran out during that trip. I use it to fix things that break in field and rig things up, or even to cover lights during night shoots.
Well for Graduated NDs square would be much better. I don't even know if they make circular grads. But for regular non-grad NDs its personal preference, they both do the same thing.
I think Really Right Stuff makes the best tripods if you have the money for them. Personally I use small Induro tripods. They are not the best quality at all, but they work just fine. I have had to replace all of my Induro Ballheads though. Now I use the Colorado Tripod ballheads which are really nice. Colorado Tripod company also makes a really nice tripod, though not sure if I would call it a travel tripod as its a little big. Thanks for watching!
its funny ...im either 1/4 second.....25 seconds...or 1/2000 for waves .....3 seconds is mush ...love your work. D850? i was D850 now GFX 50s ii. for water get a car chamoise. Break it pieces off and it absorbs water not smear it. The reason I switched to GFX is its a system that gets you to slow down.
Thanks a lot for sharing your tips with us. Most seascape tutorials play with the tide movement, but what about for those of us with no tides? Do you have any advice for seascape in the Mediterranean (I'm based in Mallorca at the moment)?
Hmmm well I probably wouldn't do too much different. Just find some interesting water flow and rock flow. Having super different tides can be a good or a bad thing. They can make some beaches out here competently unshootable or inaccessible. Or reveal new compositions and new opportunities. Maybe having less of the tide influence can actually help you to plan and scout more, given that the water-flow will be more consistent. I have shot on Menorca before and while the waves were not giant, I was still able to get some nice flows.
@@MichaelShainblum At the area where I am, there's no flow at all unless there's been a storm or it's very windy. I'll try to look other areas in the island 👍.

Very useful tips Michael. I'm thinking of buying a ND6 stops since I already have a ND10 stops. Do you think it's worth having both? I really appreciate your job!

Too late for tip #5 about wipe gear. Few years ago I took some night seascapes and got my tripod into the water and days later I realized I didn't clean it, then I saw it and was starting to rust 😂😭
Its not super ideal, but it can work for sure. I have shot many seascapes with little travel tripods. It is just a little harder to get a stable shot, you really have to dig those tripods into the sand to stop them from moving.
@@thestrider4739 Really anything large hahaha. I use some really old Induro tripods for most of my seascapes. Really Right Stuff probably makes my favorite tripods. On a tighter budget Colorado Tripod Company is also great.
