Extraordinarily explained. Although I have done masters in English literature with distinction yet I feel privileged having you my teacher. Thanks for the illustrative class.
I wanna add that there is also "break down" as in 1. explain/ divide complex task/object into smaller manageable chunks 2. process something (biologically, example: insulin break down sugar to turn them into bla bla bla)
Hello Adam! I am an English Teacher in Juarez Mexico. I love sharing your videos with my advanced students. I think you have a unique and clear way to explain the subjects. It would be great if you can make a video related to Transitive and Intransitive Verbs.
this american English lessons are so clear and well expressed, congratulations Adam! carry on showing off your English language knowledge! as someone on this message board went, impossible not to learn from him!
There is something fucking crazy about this man !! He has a good backgroung in many fields and miscellaneous subjects. When he talked about "breakdown" as being used in science and mentioned infilation in economy for "breakeven". I wish he could join the British Councel here in Saudi Arabia, I would definitely attend every single class he teatches 😭😭😭. I , as you can tell, am self tought. I have been learning English on my own for almost 3 years. I will be so excited If you can reflect on the so-called construction grammar. It is the new approach of teatching foreign languages. Some really interesting principles (rules) in this grammar system are : end-weight principle, end-focus principle and economy principle. I have never commented on an english teatcher on RU-vid, you, however, impressed me. Ali - Saudi Arabia
Marcos Alencar 👨🏻🏫 Hello, Marcos. Mr Teacher here in England 🏴. I have just found your question. I have an answer for you. In the song by Queen and Freddy Mercury ‘break free’ means to escape or be released from restraints. Then Freddy could do what he wanted to do, as an entertainer.
Adam you gave a good example about "break away" in basketball. I'll remember this phrasal verb like "Lebron breaks away from the rivals and slam dunks the ball".
Also break someone up means to make him laugh and break down to burst out crying , then a war breaks out and lastly to break it down means like to explain something
I am from Nicaragua and my language is spanish and i like your way to teach, and i would like that you put subtitles in spanish, i will be grateful. Greetings friends.
Hello yes phrasal verbs are very difficult and you have a very nice way of going through them and you help to make sense of them. Thank you for these videos. You are probably right in suggesting to learn them just as you would learn new words however it may sound like a very dauting task and it would mean losing out on the wealth of treasure PREPOSITIONS and particles have in store! Some of them - agreed are most likely impossible to make sense of if not by just "learning" them by heart - however it may be also a nice idea to start digging into prepositions and grouping the meanings of the verbs around these prepositions: "around.." up and away.. can help to find a logic . around= without a specific goal.. fool around.. play around... walk around.. etc../ OUT - the idea of a solution.. figure out/find out/ work out etc.. and there are other "keys" that could allow groupings - it would start instilling a "feel" for the language.. And when - as a non-native- you start developing this intuitive feel, then you little by little pick up the meaning intuitively of new phrasal verbs (in context), you start making some up.. you really start enjoying the language - (adding this "up" which often doesn't make much sense to non natives..) and you start using prepositions in a very creative way elsewhere in your speech..not just in phrasal verbs - prepositions are a defining trait of English and a key to humour and to all the possibilities this language has to offer - which partly explains its dominance in the world I feel.. What do you think?
KAUSHIK SUTRADHAR 👨🏻🏫 Hello, Kaushik. Mr Teacher here in England 🏴. I have an answer to your question. One physical meaning for ‘break up’ is when a meeting is disturbed by intruders who want to stop it continuing. They intend to break up the meeting because they do not like what it is about. Another example is when a protest march is broken up by police or military forces. Both examples can involve some degree of violence.
Nisha Agrawal 👨🏻🏫 Hello, Nisha. Mr Teacher here in England 🏴. I have an answer to your question. We can use both sentences, but it is more common to use ‘break out of prison’ because first, the thief was in the prison, then he was out of the prison.

Thanks for this very inspiring tuto Adam. I may be wrong but I think you didn't mention the 'breakthrough' topic at all that's written on your dashboard, did you? 🤔
Believe me Adam, I love your teaching style and this is the only reason I subscribed your channel. I would be much happier if you make a video on perfect and advanced gerunds and infinitives. e.g. to be cleaning, to be cleaned, to have been cleaning, to have cleaned ...

tacolai 👨🏻🏫 Hello, Mr Teacher here in England 🏴. I have an answer to your question. There are several meanings for ‘breakthrough’ or break through.’ We use ‘breakthrough’ to mean achieving a positive result after a long struggle. It usually appears in medicine, science and technology. An example here is - ‘Researchers have made a breakthrough in finding a cure for heart disease.’ When there are two words ‘break through’ we mean to pierce a hole in an obstacle. An example here is - ‘Engineers have broken (Past perfect) through the last wall of earth blocking the new railway tunnel.’
Hello Adam, It would mean a lot me if you could please suggest a legit tefl online course website. There's to many out there and it's just so confusing. Thank you so much.

Can we use break-in to tell for example break-in the egine of motorbike? (when we take new motorbike we have to prepare the engine, we have to do some klm to get ready for harder conditions) Apologies for my writing!
Being honest, since i begin to learn this georgeous language i found that pharasal verbs make english richer. Dont you think? (But well at the same time they are pretty difficult!) Does somebody here has an advice for me to not to feel ashamed when you have to speak in a front of a lot of people?
Sir please correct me expection my sentence is totaly wrong // Today anna does not come to school from home she goes but she does not arrive anna breakout to somewhere Probably breakout have some mean for different condition i need your fill in please
Just a little confusing moment: To break up and to break down can both be about splitting something into pieces. What's the difference? But in general, the explanation is very structured and clear, thank you.
Break up we use for marriages when people are no longer together - it is one single action, breakdown is what we use for when things get too much for someone, it a slow process that leads to the action.
Adam must probably love baseball because he spent more time talking about how to loosen a baseball glove than how to use break lol. Just a joke. Great video.
was confused break out and breakout ver confusing especialy when is written down but sound the same when someone says it and that I am not English easily be mistaken
