After 45 years of skiing i pulled the short straw and hit a metal rod a snow plow buried in the middle of the run. Its been 12 months. I shattered my right knee joint, broke my fibia, severed my ACL, tore my MCL 90%, sufferedd right leg nerve damage, and tore my meniscus. I had to learn to walk with the leg again due to the nerve damage 😭. I have been cleared to ski this winter. Your video made me laugh thanks!!! Its going to be a bit tough going from an expert level skier to a beginner/intermediate level skier. My goal this year is to prove I can still ski again and make sure the last day I ski was not the day I became partially disabled. Never give up and thanks for the positive video.

Best of luck with coming back to skiing. I blew my knee again this winter so I’m right back at it.

If you have any tips on skis what felt better or worse I would appreciate it. I was skiing on Volkl Mantras...now I am looking for a new ski just for groomer blue runs this year...then I would hopefully be back to non groomer tree skiing 2026...narrow under foot, more rocker, real short??? Get well soon

All good points. I'm not back on the planks yet, but excited for when I do. I liked the one best to listen to your body and if you need to download, do it. Same goes for resisting the pressure after dropping big coin for a lift ticket to only ski a few runs. Find your mental balance on accepting yourself where you are physically.
@stanrey7
@stanrey7 2 года назад
For sure. The mental aspect of injuries is more important than the physical one in my opinion.

@@stanrey7 Totally agree. It's been hard adjusting my personal identity from super active to something much slower. Taking care of your body is the name of the game here. Also, if someone is interested, there's lots of mental health resources out there available by tele-medicine to help you through these situations (and others of course).

Thanks for this video. I just did ACL full tear, 3x mensicus tear, LCL tear, and tibial plateau avulsion fracture hitting spring whis park jumps. Likely will get surgery later this summer. Nice to see you've been through it and are still out shredding hard once again.

These are great tips. I started with loops around the ballfields on my teles a month ago to rebuild strength. This week I'm moving up to the beginner's area for some short laps. I didn't expect to be back on snow this year, so I'm grateful for all the late snow.

First day of the season this year at Mammoth, CA., I ended up with a tibia plateau fracture and MCL sprain. I will most likely start wearing knee braces next season, but I will keep these 8 steps. Thank you, Stan🤘🏻

Good video, thank you! No judgement, but hoping that because I’m 21, (assuming you are in your 30’s) I can heal faster and be back to sports within 6 months. I had a trauma injury tho, bone bruising in my tibia and femur, ACL is gone, MCL partially tore and my meniscus had a bucket handle tear as well. I can’t even describe the level of pain when it happened
@stanrey7
@stanrey7 9 месяцев назад
Ouch that does sound painful. I hope your recovery goes well and that you are back and at it as soon as possible but remember the mountains will alway be there if it does happen to take a little longer. good luck.

Thank you for sharing the tips! Just had a question about turns and was wondering if you might have some suggestions. I’ve already had my ACL surgery more than 1.5 years and I’m back on slopes. However, I found that it’s still hard to control the injured knee like it cannot be bent as I want when making a turn, especially when carving… I was wondering if you may have some tips to improve it? Thank you so much!

I still get a sore knee after a long day of skiing but I haven't had much issue with restraining movements. I still do all my PT exercises every morning just to maintain strength and mobility which I find helps. Hope you can work through it and that soon you will be back at it with no restrains. Happy shredding.

In the "Choosing the right equipment" section you mentioned chosing a shorter, narrow pair of skis. So a shorter narrower ski decreases the stress on the knee? I always thought wider All-Mountain skis make it easier to ski in general.
@stanrey7
@stanrey7 5 месяцев назад
Shorter Narrower ski puts less tress on your knees on the groomers which is what you should stick too for at least the first few weeks when coming back from a knee injury. A wider ski is harder to get on edge. Hope that helps!

I’m 5 months post op for acl and meniscus. Any workouts that you recommend before I get back on the slopes? My pt doesn’t ski so they didn’t have any specific ones for me 😊
@stanrey7
@stanrey7 Год назад
Hey Oliver, I had a trainer write me some workouts for rehab as well as doing all my PT exercises. I could send them to you if you'd like but rehab can be a little different for everyone so if you can Id go in to see a trainer once a month to give you a program and check in with him to change things up when some exercises are getting easy. Hope that helps and good luck with the rehab!

What should I do as an adult beginner who faced the ACL injury the first year of skiing practice?😢
@stanrey7
@stanrey7 9 месяцев назад
I would take it super easy. Get the ok from your doctor or physio and go up for 1 run and see howe it feels. Take it day by day and no need to rush. Your body will let you know. Best of luck.

Nice high value vid. Question if you feel like answering-did you have sharp knee pain/ache after a few runs of skiing groomers and sitting on the chairs despite your knee feeling strong and capable in a turn? I am just getting back on snow post ACL surgery and it feels great while actually skiing, but really aches after sitting on the chair. I am not sure if the ache is a sign if not being ready since it does feel strong, or if it is normal with a new activity and will subside eventually…
@stanrey7
@stanrey7 Год назад
Hey Delilah, I had knee pain all last year while skiing. It felt strong and pretty good in the gym and on the bike but didn’t like skiing very much and then after sitting it would get quite sore. I didn’t have much sharp pain but more ache soreness after skiing. I think everyone heals a little different but the pain does go away. I’m now nearing on year two and I still notice it getting a little sore after big days but it does get better.I hope that helps.

I think it’s a smart idea and it gives you some confidence as well which always helps. I personally don’t ski with one but I know lots of people who have after knee injuries.
