Yeah, this is why I never got into watching boxing when I was a kid. My dad told me about how it's corrupt and not real competition (for the most part) and I was like Imma watch pro wrestling instead
I mean tbh all it is is grooming young fighters to fight better fighters better. Journeymen are good editions to the sport, but I don’t like the refs not scoring the contest fairly.
Fans Over The World that’s the idea of a journeyman. You take as little damage as possible whilst losing. If you beat a prospect or a ticket seller than you won’t get a fight
James Todd - Yeah I knew that they didn’t want to get knocked out coz they have to wait 30 days but I didn’t think they went in with the intention of making the other guy look good
Captain Kirk ahh I dunno I mean I can't stand him and he did have a fight when he got banned so possibly lying but as much of an idiot as he is, he's somewhat truthful
THANK YOU to everyone who gave me positive feedback on this video! And thanks to TKO for having me on! Those of you hating. Know nothing about boxing. Learn how it works. Haha Half of you prob never even laced a pair of gloves I bet hahaha.
@Luke Daniel Yeah, we don't want to see Wilder murdered. Best that he stick to trying to iron out Charlie Zelenoff. He couldn't even beat him so this guy would kill Wilder.
Yea have to say I will be keeping my eye out for Lewis on boxing shows and if I have the opportunity to go watch him I would love to show my support. Great guy
@@JOE_co_uk What am I missing? Isn't he straight up admitting that the whole thing is a sham? That it's basically about as real as pro wrestling? I mean, most of us who know the sport, know there's some level of corruption but this is appalling that he's so casual about it running so deep
This has been my favourite TKO so far. I go to some small hall shows and have seen Lewis box live. While I knew journeymen aren’t there for the win, I didn’t realise just how many balls a good journeyman is juggling. Make it a decent fight, expose the prospect slightly (give them things to work on), make the prospect look good, most importantly though, don’t get hurt! They are an unappreciated and crucial part of the process! Top drawer TKO, great episode!
This bloke travels to give young mate a fight. Fights most weeks, every young fella (prospect), trying to take his head off. God bless you Poochie. 124 losses and never been knocked out.
Great illustration that boxing is corrupt, but I know you all knew that anyway, but it's very interesting to hear from this journey man,I don't know if he'll get many fights after this though.
im not sure where the line of bravery or stupidity steps in, surely having lost that many times and still counting is just going to do psychical damage eventually. props for doing what he wants though.
The first few fights of prospects are non competition fights to prep them . If u haven't noticed that Ur an idiot. Tbf most boxing fans don't understand the sport theyre fans of lol
Gareth pc principle it’s an official fight that they are encouraged to lose, if it’s just sparring keep it in the gym because basically ensuring the outcome of sporting events is literally illegal
Really great insight into how being a journeyman works, awesome interview! Unsung warriors really, they give prospects a chance to develop their skills and knowledge in the ring! 95 defeats and can still speak properly 😂 Again, really interesting and quality interview. All the best Lewis!
Am starting to dislike boxing getting told to lose is ridiculous there’s no chance for the underdog it’s not fair really ! I think boxing is the dirtiest and most corrupt sport ever!
Really didnt realise it's worked like this, I guess this is usually in a up and coming Pro's first 1-10 fights to give them a record to move up with, I really love this sport but fuck me is it corrupt as fuck at every level.
@@ИванСтаростенко-л4ш Who says tomato cans can't win? A tomato can is someone who is simply losing all the time, doesn't mean they don't have wins on their record. A 8 - 95 win record is terrible, I respect anyone who gets in there but if we're going to have labels someone with that kind of record doesn't have enough wins to qualify as a journeyman, most journeyman have more loss to win ratio records but they're capable of the occasional upset of a prospect or contender. This guy is a club fighter at best.
@@Hugh_Morris Maybe tomato can was a bit of a stretch but 8-95 is not that of a journeyman, maybe club fighter was more of an appropriate term. Kevin McBride, Bert Cooper, Marion Wilson, Zack Page...these guys are more accurate examples of a journeyman.
I don't know but there's something a bit sad and forlorn listening to the tale of a journeyman - especially when you consider Poochi initially had a promising career ahead of him after his first few fights before deciding to become a journeyman.
Have to interview William Warburton , must be the most successful journey man in the uk .. 185 fights 26 ,149 ,10 . and only 2 losses by ko in his early career .. Fighting the likes of Willy limond , Chris Townend , Chris Kongo , James Metcalf ,Sam Eggington , Joe Hurn etc ...
Wow this channel has potential to get a lot of subscribers. I like the questions . I think carl and joe were very kind mentaly to various guests . Its a little bit hard to decide to go ahead and put certain content out . Example here is when tim nice but dim basicaly exposes corruption in the sport to the dont knows. But hes 28 and like he said its just how it is. Shame he doesnt spar and train then turn his selling point to 250 fights and trying to make 125 / 125 . Imagine the equalizing match up . Now that would sell tickets . Not aj style but surely make the kid 200k . Man frampton is such a good skillfull fighter . I felt he lost to the space raider because the space raider is clearly and i mean clearly juiced up to his eyeballs . I slowed the footage down and im telling you its simply not possible . Frampton did very well and has the better iq . The better footwork and the better movement . How did he lose then you say . Simply because warrington was moving like something out of the matrix on speed . Its only drugs that will allow someone to train and recover like that . I feel selby underestimated him but got out powerd . Frampton didnt do this he always preparers to the max . I feel frampton got set up a bit but thats just my opinion . Just because of that id just ped up and if he does he cleans out the division . Carl is genuinly one of the only non ped user so you can only imagine . Anyway spiel over . Nice channel
Didn't no journey men are there to lose I thought they were low quality boxers who just are not likely to win. Very interesting interview. I have to say I am disappointed by the truth of the journey men.
They do win fights. Even Reggie Strickland had 14 knock outs in his record and over 60 victories. Their odds of winning are low, but real. Basically they are training partners to future champions.
Andrew selby was amazing in the amateurs and gave lomachenko some amazing fights that went to very close decisions, where everyone else was quitting after 1 round. Both Andrew and lee selby have had very little backing from the big promoter's, could have achieved amazing legacies with the right backing and promoting.
Amateur and pro boxing are two completely different sports. Scored entirely differently. Andrew last fight was ko'd in under 5 rounds by a 24 year old fringe fighter. If you get ko'd by that kid in your prime then you were never going to be a notable professional.
Great interview. As he says he plays the game. His role is to give prospects a bit of experience to hone the craft without being put in real danger. Kinda like a pilot flying a flight simulator. It still counts towards flying experience without actually having to recover a real A380 from plunging into the sea.
DONT BREAK KAYFABE! The fans want to see real competition, not this pro wrestling, fixed outcome, 'gentlemens agreement' bullshit. THIS is why boxing never reached the heights it could have. We don't trust it, and for good reason apparently
Top bloke much respect for this guy. Boxing working like this is the reason it’s in such a bad decline. People want to watch MMA where the best fighters fight the best and they don’t hold back. Boxing is more similar to pro wrestling now. It’s a pantomime!
Haha I know a lot of ignorant morons will look at his record and assume he is shit at boxing, unaware that he could probably k.o your average man on the street within seconds. I have had the same thing happen in athletics, where I came 10th in England and when my classmates got wind of it they automatically assume your no good, even though in a 2 mile race you would (and I did later on) completely toast them and lap them 2 or 3 times leaving them staggered and embarrassed both at the same time. Its all about levels and people don't realize that boxers are craftsmen and extremely skilled at what they do, just because they might lose 9 out of every 10 fights they compete in, this is at PROFESSIONAL level, and even those losses where sometimes almost 50/50 fights where the decision could have gone either way. Besides that it takes a special kind of character to step into the ring and into the unknown where you could get knocked out cold in front of audience, now that takes GUTS, especially fighters like this who regularly take on battles where they know before the bout there is a good chance of losing, now that takes the heart of a lion and warrior, its a level of bravery very few have.
I guess amongst the heavyweights Tomas Mrazek is. Journeyman but what about Kamil Sokolowski? A losing record but he can bang. Did he start as a journeyman and then decide to “go straight”. Poor old Webb!
@@jmpersonalfinanceandinvesting That's my point, I was talking about the predetermined results that happen in professional wrestling, but not in amateur wrestling.
There are journey men who go away to their rivals home and they aren't even allowed to win the fight. If they tried and actually won they might not get booked again, seriously. This is the issue with boxing, you could get okay boxers(if they have a famous dad it helps) with bloated records, it's fucking a joke. It makes boxing seem stupid and noncompetitive and it's corrupt. They don't do this in MMA, you're thrown in the deep end and if you are actually good you'll shine, if you aren't then you're subbed or knocked out.
THIS IS THE TRUTH ABOUT BOXING ! My friend took up boxing late , had 20 semi pro fights , winning an area title but didnt have ko power .. So he fancied becoming a pro boxer , but didnt have what it takes . After 3 fights it was clear he woudnt make it as a pro . He had pay £1200 to the journeyman , pay the promoter £1000 and sell at least 70 tickets to break even . Friends and family soon got fed up of travelling to Bethnall green and the likes to support . And the stress of selling enough tickets to break even was to much ! He then became the journeyman and had 3 more fights . After a very short career in boxing but sparring at peacocks gym against quality boxers he is NOW "punch drunk " at the age of 35 and his life is all but over , till something bad happens .. Check out boxrec and see how many boxers records stop after just a few fights ! Or start off with some wins and then lots of losses !!!! BOXING IS A MUGS GAME !!!! Unless you are the best of the best 0.0007 % AJ , Mayweather .. Even the best boxers might leaving boxing with £££££ but not their health .... Adonis Stevens being one of the latest .
im obsessed with boxing but I don't know why anyone would want to be a pro, unless desperate for money or you are really that special! be better off on the dole probably. lol. now I just train here and there and do some light sparring so I can keep up my passion.
