Sweet, Sweet video... the children are getting so knowledgeable about animals and their care... I think back before you had any critters... (Just Oreo and the cats...)... Your babies are getting the BEST kind of education... science in their daily lives... Great job Bri and Art.... you are AMAZING !

Yay, Bri, I'm hatching eggs commercially for a few years now, and I can safely say that opening the incubator at any time poses no danger whatsoever on the other chicks as long as you don't open it every 5 minutes and if you add more water on the bottom so the humidity will go back up quickly.

I also do the butterflies especially when i have grandchildren here staying with me. No better way to teach the about nature, about science and how to be conscious of what we do outside and avoiding killing these beautiful creatures. Also, it teaches a child to be sensitive. Love the chicks.. great job guys.

Just catching up on my RU-vid videos. So glad to see all your new baby chicks. You're living the life I had always wished for when I was young. Now I'm medically retired, in my 60s and can't put forth that kind of hard work. So thanks for sharing your lives with the world.

They look like nice big healthy chicks. Well done guys! I miss having chicks to raise they are so cute! I don't miss the mess and dust though haha :) Next year planning on replacement chicks for my older layers. Unless miracle of miracles one of my hens finally decides to go broody. I'm not holding my breath on that one. They are a more into foraging than sitting.

The children looked so happy about all of the baby chicks. It's great that they all helped move them to their new home. Birghton's reaction and "one finger" approach were priceless. Is the milkweed poisonous to the animals? It is neat how you have a hatching station in your house. Chick, butterflies, what next? (in the house)

Yes, milkweed is poisonous to our goats. We are picking the milkweed out of our pasture, but making sure that if there are caterpillars then we will relocate them.

Love how gentle your children are in handling the baby chicks... even your youngest can hardly control his joy but touches and caresses them with one gentle finger. Way to go guys. May I suggest you check out Justin Rhodes setup for chicks... he puts the waterer and food on top of a screen platform to prevent any dirt (wood chips and debris) from clogging the water and food supply.

Your kids are amazing. To be so young and the know all this animal care. I just love how they take care of eachother. When Joy put the jacket hat on him in the rain it was precious. It shows that they really love each other which is nice to see. Y'all as parents keep up all the hard work. I live in Mocksville NC. I've watched you for a while. Since you are getting a cow are you still keeping your goats. If you decide you want to rehome them please let me know. We live on a farm and we are very familiar with farm animals. No worries! I wouldn't care if you were being mean. I'm used to people trying to trigger me! I raised three boys! Hahaa! I've had chickens all my life. Personally, I was guilty of using a heat lamp, as well. I just used paper. There were alarming stories in the forums. I wouldn't have said anything, but with folks as sweet as this, I'd hate to...not...say anything and something bad happen. I could never live with myself. Children, occasionally, like to push their boundaries to touch things, in secret, that they were asked not to touch. Even the sweet ones do it.

A sad story about some of my monarch larvae. I had counted as many as 125 on my milkweed plants. I collected and brought inside about 20, including those I took to the Art and Bri children. But I'm not sure what happened to all the rest. I have found two chewed up ones. And I saw one wasp eating another. The other day I moved 15 on the potted plants near some trees so they could climb when they were ready to pupate. We had a heavy rain for about two days. One drowned, I know when it fell off the plant. The others just vanished, poof. They couldn't have all been far enough along to pupate. I think a bird ate them all, maybe a wild turkey. Maybe a female cardinal I saw hanging around the garden. Right now I have about 14 chrysalises at our house and five or so larvae. Some of the chrysalises have parasites and will die, I'm afraid. But I'll probably get a dozen healthy adults before it's all over. -Art's Dad

Off topic...but If you didn't see Brad the other day on Big Family Homestead, he said to remove a tick without breaking it apart, put one drop on peppermint essential oil on it and it will automatically back out. I think I remember Art saying that you have a tick problem there in the summer. Hope this works for y'all. Have a Blessed day and you really did have a good hatch.
@amandabrewood4587
@amandabrewood4587 7 лет назад
Margaret Bedwell no, that is a very very bad idea. it causes the tick to expell the contents of their stomach inside the bite which leads to higher amounts of infection.
