Rams 1980 Yearbook. A strong offensive unit and a defense that led the league in sacks. That being said, the defending NFC champs underachieved this season as they should've won more games but there was inner turmoil between players and owner and their wc playoff loss to the Cowboys was anti-climactic.
Sorry for the watermark. When I get a program without one I'll re-upload.

The LA Rams had a nice season once again. The surprising Falcons stole away with what could have been an 8th straight division title.

+Luke Enno Bounced back nicely from an unexpected 0-2 start. They had the Falcons in third-and-38 before it slipped away at Fulton County Stadium (I cringe at that thought). On the whole, however, an enjoyable season.

The Rams had 56 sacks in 1980, still a really good pass rush and could force turnovers. But there hadn't been a team since before George Allen got to the Rams(pre-1966) that was so dreadful vs the run. They weren't a great running team either, it would be an RB by committee situation until they drafted Dickerson in 1983. So it was obvious they needed to open things up, Ferragamo had 30 td passes that season. Dallas exposed the weaknesses in the WC round that year
@howardcosell2022
@howardcosell2022 2 года назад
Elvis Peacock was supposed to be the main RB but injuries ended his career. First round pick Johnnie Johnson was way out of position starting at SS. He was more of a CB/FS trying to replace linebacker-like Dave Elmendorf and Fred Dryer continued to slim down a la Alan Page to play a 16 game schedule

What a thing to say, that you were happy when Haden got hurt. Pat Haden had a 35 - 19 -1 record as a starter with the Rams. He didn't win the big one but he got the Rams into the playoffs 3 of his 4 seasons as a starter not counting 79 and 80 when he missed most of those games due to injuries. Haden didn't have the natural gifts Vince was born with but he was a smart, scrappy, gutsy and tough player. at 5' 11" -180 he took hits from D-lineman (especially Fred Dean who as a Charger and Niner, seemed to have Pat's number) that make you shudder. He got right back up every single time. He was a winner everywhere he played from High School on. Check out USC's 75 Rose Bowl win over Ohio State where he had a game winning clutch performance and led USC to 2 national championships. I think Vince had flashes of greatness but he never played in a Pro Bowl as Haden did after the 76 season voted in by players in the league.

I recall being very happy that the Rams were finally going to have a passing game and was going to be the start of a run of titles after years of being only a run team with strong D and not being able to compete with Dal/Minn because of poor QB play. Sadly, Georgia wouldn't pay Ferragamo who left for the CFL. Huge mistake. Yes, Vince came back, but it wasn't the same.This 1980 team only had one weakness. The run D at times was poor and the team would yield very high runs-per-carry for the other teams. I think LA could have taken Philly in the NFC title game, but never made it as they lost to Dal as usual. A healthy Tyler for the entire season may have made the Rams unbeatable. Also recall being excited about Elvis Peacock. Not only one of the great names of all-time, but he came out of the 70s Oklahoma running back machine and was set to be in the class of Simms, Kenny King and Pruitt.

The move to St. Louis . won a Super Bowl. . Moved back to LA not to long ago. Lost to the Patriots.Hopefully there new stadium they play in this coming 2020 season. Brings in revenue to keep the team in LA . The Rams and Chargers have the nicest Stadium in the NFL. Brand new . Should be the number 1 and 2 biggest market teams to shop for good players to win Super Bowls. Good thing that Stadium got built. Will make money for the Rams and Chargers.

I'm assuming this was made after Vince Ferragamo signed with Montreal because they don't mention him by name all. Pat Haden was awful had they kept Ron Jaworski they easily would have won a couple super bowls
@MGAF688
@MGAF688 5 лет назад
The Rams were not the best judge of QB talent. They would stockpile QBs and then make odd decisions like starting Namath for several games. Going with Haden over Jaws was a mistake. Ferragamo came and went and then came back. In between, there was the badly damaged Bert Jones. Kemp and Dieter then each got a chance during Dickerson's prime. Had the Rams actually had some meaningful QB plan that worked, they might have found Super Bowl success. Everett was the first step to having consistent QB play and he was a steady performer for several seasons. I loved those Rams but a lot of elite talent (Ellard, Slater, Hill, Dickerson, Saul, Youngblood, Dryer, etc.) was wasted on inconsistent and ever-changing QB play.
@howardcosell2022
@howardcosell2022 2 года назад
@@MGAF688 Along with Bert Jones, the Rams also employed Dan Pastorini, Steve Bartkowski, and any other flavor of the month they can get their hands on. Unfortunately, they could only get Everett and Dickerson on the field together for only a short time

@@MGAF688 you are forgetting about Dan Pastorini who was supposed to make Rams forget about Ferragamo. At least in Georgia Frontiere's mind
@davidroberts7282
@davidroberts7282 5 месяцев назад
If a QB of Everett's caliber had been drafted maybe 1-2 years before he was, and perhaps Rams FO and ownership werent so cheap under Georgia Frontierre during the 1980's not meeting and poor-mouthing on Eric Dickerson's contract demands, Eric mightve never left southern California. Former Rams GM said on Dickerson's Football Life episode that eventually Dickerson got his huge contract but went and played for the wrong team in a much smaller market (Indy). 1980 always strikes me as sort of the last gasp of an aging, older bunch of players in L.A. who had been great and achieved so much during the 1970's that it was their last hurrah, before major changes happened in every aspect of the organization and I'm not even a Rams fan (Saints fan, in fact).
