These commercials aired during the 1984 Olympics on ABC on July 30th and August 12th, 1984. These are from a 24 year old beta tape that my Aunt and Uncle recorded, so the quality isn't the best.
1. Diet Coke (With Kim Carnes, Weird Al Yankovich, James Coco, Henry Thomas and probably some others)
2. Promo for "Hotel" (With James Brolin!)
3. Sears Craftsman Electronic Power Tools
4. Olympic Commercial Bumpers for Wrigley's Gum, AT&T and Beatrice Foods
5. Tab
6. Nissan ("Yeah...for trout! Hehehehehe!")
7. McDonald's (I love these commercials so much)
8. Lowenbrau Beer
9. Wrigley's Spearmint Gum (What odd jobs)
10. Stanley Tools (We test our tape measures for endurance!)
11. AT&T
12. First Jersey Securities
13. Sprint
14. Stanley Tools
15. Kodak Kodacolor VR Film
16. Sears (One of the few things in my town that has remained relatively unchanged all my life is the Sears at the mall. It even smells the same. It's like my own personal time machine back to the 80's)
17. UnicapM (What an oddly shaped bottle to put pills in)
18. Atari 2600
19. ABC News Brief (The Russkies knew what was up with Afghanistan)

Wow; I commented a couple volumes ago on how much I love that Diet Coke jingle, and here's another version of it--complete with "Weird Al" Yankovic! 1:58--Ironically, a commercial for Diet Coke's forerunner, Tab. I was wondering what was "new" about Tab in 1984? My guess is the use of aspartame (Nutra-Sweet), which was in vogue at that time. 4:00--Wrigley's has produced a lot of great commercials over the years, and this is probably my favorite ad for their Spearmint gum. 7:01--I remember that Kodak "As Time Goes By" jingle, although the specific version that sticks in my mind featured a little boy and his dog.

It looks red to me, with a little pink chroma noise from the beta tape.

Well for those who get depressed at all the old grocery comericals, its always nice to see a old computer ad and its prices isn't it.

- This was probably the beginning of the end for the 2600. - Sears Business Systems? Do those even exist anymore? - Lowenbrau Beer commercial had no point. - I love the Diet Coke/McD's commercial.

I like how the original 1984 MacIntosh (and IBM for that matter) were at prices in the $2500s where even the newest MacBooks and Windows computers would go about $2000 tops with avg prices still only in the hundreds. Then you also consider today's currency inflation. Incredible.

Did nobody at the ad agency think "Let's Taste" in the Tab commercial might sound like "less taste"? Probably not their smartest move. ;)

Yeah, it's a parody of what actually happened during these Olympic games. Because the countries that typically compete with the U.S. in many events boycotted the games, tons of Big Macs were given away when the U.S. won the gold in an event they otherwise wouldn't have won.

Mmmm, can't tell you the last tim I had a Lowenbrau. Kodak Disc Film...who's brilliant idea WAS that? My step-mom had one. Sure, it was hip to have one, but you only got, like, 12 exposures on the thing, it cost more to develop, and the pictures weren't any better than those 110 insta-matic cameras we'd had for 15 years. Atari 2600. :-)

That McDonald's commercial sounds like it's voiced over by Larry Brantley, the voice of Wishbone in the 90's. I doubt it's him, but the voice sure does sound similar.

@hagiadzo Atari's biggest mistake was screwing up the deal they were negotiating with Nintendo. Throughout 1983, Atari was set to be the North American distributor of the NES system. After the rapid success of the Famicom system in Japan, Nintendo decided to handle NA distribution themselves. After that, Atari was officially toast.

@80sCommercialVault Then they were forced to try and keep up with Nintendo and Sega as the focus of the industry shifted from the U.S. to Japan. I predominantly used a Commodore 64 throughout the '80s, so I was playing video games despite the downturn in the console market.

By the summer of '84, Atari and others were feeling the effects of the video game crash. Apparently, they were trying to squeeze all the money they could from those woodgrained 2600's.

@saibasabu but your talking new technology then to old tech today.... its like comparing a VHS player in the late 80's, to a VHS recorder in the mid 90's..... sure the technology was way better.... but it was old news and new and cheaper parts readily available. compare a top of the line VCR then, to a top of the line DVD player today..... see what i mean?
