These commercials aired on ABC on July 13th, 1985
1. "We'll Return After These Messages" Commercial Bumper
2. Rainbow Brite Murky Dismal and Color Kids
3. Cap'n Crunch (I really like the animation style in the Wolfman/Mummy segment. With coupon for free pack of Tidal Wave Bubble Gum!)
4. "We'll Return After These Messages" Commercial Bumper
5. Oreo (With Jaleel White)
6. Alpha Bits
7. Big Wheel Car Wash (OMG AMAZING)
8. Promo for "Droids"
9. Cap’n O. G. Readmore PSA
10. "Rubik, The Amazing Cube" Commercial Bumper
11. "Rubik, The Amazing Cube" (As strange as a cartoon about a talking Rubik's cube sounds already, I think this short clip will perfectly demonstrate how crazy weird this show REALLY was)
12. "We'll Return After These Messages" Commercial Bumper
13. Rice Krispies (With free Wendy's Frosty coupon!)
14. "Rubik, The Amazing Cube" End Credits (The concert being promoted is Live Aid, still the most-watched televised concert in history...viewed by 1.9 billion people globally)
15. "Schoolhouse Rock": "Elbow Room" (A questionably positive interpretation of manifest destiny/westward expansion, but I still can't help but feel slightly emotional and proud of my country while watching some of these Schoolhouse Rock videos. "No More Kings" does a similar thing to me)
16. "We'll Return After These Messages" Commercial Bumper
17. Hugga Bunch (In the wake of the runaway success of the Cabbage Patch Dolls, it seems as though every rival toy company struggled to make their own ripoffs that were just as terrifying)
18. "Schoolhouse Rock" End Credits
19. ABC Station ID (This block appears to be from a network aircheck, so that part about "#NSDM-6-R3" would have had a local ad played over it)
20. Closed Captioning Bumper
21. "We'll Return After These Messages" Commercial Bumper
22. Cocoa Pebbles (Buying your own freaking box of cereal is a lot easier than some elaborate trick played on your best friend that involves cross-dressing)
23. Rainbow Brite (With Heather O'Rourke from "Poltergeist")
24. "We'll Return After These Messages" Commercial Bumper
25. Honey Nut Cheerios
26. TV Spot for "E.T." (I'm not sure if I really enjoyed or appreciated this as a kid, but now I think that no other movie encapsulates the culture of the early 80's better, especially from a child's perspective. The scene where Elliot shows E.T. all of his Star Wars action figures...the teens playing Dungeons & Dragons at the dinner table. There's something about all of it that feels very real despite the fantastic premise. I can see now why it was such a huge movie then)
27. Fruit Chewy Newtons
28. Cap’n O. G. Readmore PSA
29. "We'll Return After These Messages" Commercial Bumper
30. She-Ra Princess Of Power
31. Hi-C (With Jason Hervey)

These commercials make you feel all warm and happy inside. Especially that Fig Newton cookie one.

I forgot how Rainbow Brite toys were marketed with a Wizard of Oz music theme. I only remembered the theme song from the cartoon. Thanks for all the hard work on these videos, they mean a lot to us.

Rainbow Brite seems to be one of the few 80s properties that didn't get a modern remake.

It's best that they didn't. If they brought Rainbow Brite back, it should stay like it was in the 80s. The remake of Strawberry Shortcake, however, was unnecessary.

I think she stayed that size right up until she died. I also notice her eyes look blue when in fact one was brown and the other was blue.

Kids these days really can't appreciate how long we had to wait for a movie to get on home video. E.T. was released in 1982, rereleased here in 1985, and finally got on VHS in 1988. I remember when we got the tape, and how it had a bright green 'tape guard' on it. I really should watch it again sometime! Thanks again for the great videos!

I remember being frustrated as a kid that certain Disney movies were not on VHS, my only exposure to some of them was through clip shows or those sing-along videos. It was a big deal when movies like The Jungle Book, Peter Pan, Snow White etc. came out on home video.

Jeff Hughes, I saw E.T. over five times, and NIMH at least four. Movies were around a lot longer in theatres than they are now.

I practically lived on my big wheel. I had the Night Rider version. I would have loved that car wash! These commercials are a warm hug from the past. 😊

July 13, 1985, 1 day before my 6th birthday, I saw E.T. (My favorite movie from childhood, and today is a close second to Vertigo as my favorite movie of all time) in theaters in '85 for the re-release. I don't remember for sure, but I assume my mom took me to see E.T. as a birthday present; she knew I was obsessed with the movie (still am). Thanks mom.

Holy crap, I totally forgot about the Rubik's show. And how cool was Cap'n OG Readmore! There is something so nostalgic about hearing that Oreo song with the "Nabisco" jingle at the end. "Na-bis-co"... "ding!" Gotta love it.

Summer between kindergarten and first grade. And wow, this would have been when I saw E.T. in a theater. Nice quality. Thanks!

4:39 One of my earliest Saturday Morning memories (and I mean when it was originally shown in the '70s!). As a little kid I was back then, I didn't know what that elbow room song was about. Now I would know. 5:34 It's been clarified that the *real* Napoleon wasn't short. 8:48 "Next The New Scooby-Doo Mysteries Number NSDM Dash 6 Dash R3." Well, at least, there's no Scrappy-Doo!

Love them all, but this one was especially cool. I was 9 days old when these aired. Pretty cool to see some from (pretty much) the week I was born.

This looks like it came from the satellite feed of the ABC Network because I don't see any local ads. I could also tell because of the announcer talking on the blank part of the clip.

Man, all that Schoolhouse Rock video makes me think of is "lebensraum" and my jaw dropped the whole time.

I'm not going to go out of my way to defend a cartoon with a charmingly outdated view of American history, but I do think there's a slight difference between the colonization of North America and say, the invasion of Poland by the Nazis.

did ABC show the entire Live-Aid concert,or just highlights..?
@80sCommercialVault
@80sCommercialVault 9 лет назад
No, just highlights. ABC's prime-time broadcast was just three hours. Based on the description in the promo here it consisted of select performances from both the London and Philadelphia concerts. The entire concert from both venues was 16 hours in total, which MTV aired in full.

Are you sure these arent from 82-83? ET and Rubix are not from 85.
@80sCommercialVault
@80sCommercialVault 9 лет назад
Am I sure? Yes, I'm sure. The "E.T." Trailer is for the 1985 re-release (this is obvious from watching it as well as the text at the end of it stating "a Universal re-release"). Also "Droids" premiered in the fall of '85 and Live Aid only happened once, on July 13th, 1985.

80sCommercialVault I thought i had stated the question in my comment so idk why you felt the need to ask it again other than maybe smugness. I watched Rubix at release and didnt remember it still being on in 85.. I shoulda known you were on point. But ya, love ur channel for years was just a question I live in SC too :)

Also i use all ur commercials for noise music mashups, collages and retro techno songs so ty for that.

Arkham Trailer Park Sorry if that seemed rude, but it frustrates me when people question the info I provide without doing some basic research of their own. Movies were re-released often back then, and cartoons stayed on the air even after they were done making new episodes.

80sCommercialVault Im into retro TV history to a large degree, I asked b4 I read, sorry. I have see every one of ur volums and like I said used about 3000 commercials from it for sound collages so i owe you a debt

How do you have all these commercials? They look to all be in the same resolution and quality. Did you compile them all from online, did you record them yourself, or...?
@80sCommercialVault
@80sCommercialVault 9 лет назад
Even a cursory glance at my channel will show that what I post comes from a variety of sources that are not all the same quality. I do try to color correct things to look as good (to me) as possible. I get most of my stuff from torrents, but the early stuff was mostly from tapes recorded by me and my family, and many things I've posted are from tapes/discs other people have sent me.

80sCommercialVault Ah I see. Interesting. I've been fortunate enough to have parents that loosely knew how to work a VCR, and ripped commercials off old home recordings of TV shows. Mostly from 1986, to 1990. And only a handful. Been contemplating buying a lot of used recordable VHS on eBay that have shows taped on them and gambling if they have any commercials.
