Heh, Christmas 89. I was six--good times. This was the year I woke up at 3AM and opened all the presents (including those of my baby sister--I put pretty much everything she got in and around her crib). I didn't live that down for years. My dad guarded my room every Christmas Eve after this until I was about ten thanks to that little stunt. My sister seemed to appreciate all the new toys magically appearing in her crib though. Anyway, on topic... This batch was especially great. LOVED the Kellogg's commercial. I don't remember it either--they must have only played it a few times or not at all in my region (I lived in Florida, and I know that some of these ad campaigns were region specific). Either way, it's a shame it wasn't used for subsequent years like the McDonald's Ice Skating commercial or the Fruity Pebbles Christmas one. Also--the Muppet Family Christmas Special is about the best thing EVER. A shame copyrights are such a pain in the @$$--I'd love to have this on bluray. I'm sure it's on the internet somewhere, but still. I haven't seen it since it aired in 89'. I used to confuse it all the time as a kid for the Muppet Movie for some reason. It's like they blurred together in my brain. That commercial of the kid dodging the commercial to make those microwave fries made me laugh. How were we to know back then that we'd someday seek these commercials out in our spare time? LOL Anyway, great as always man. I'm sad I didn't have a chance go to through these before Christmas, but at least I can enjoy them now. :)
How many other people sang along to the Juicy Fruit commercial 'cause they can still remember all the words? My brain has had 'em in a dusty filing cabinet for 25 years and 80scommercialvault opened it up for me.
This is just incredible...I'd imagine Disney was asking for actual FILM from folks who'd used 8mm cameras, because even by 1989, video cameras were still pretty expensive and bulky. Actually I don't remember my mom getting a camcorder until the mid-90's because of the price and size.
It wasn't actually the ad seen here, but another skiing themed ad from earlier in the 80's: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-X_a4mCRIPRY.html
I did a quick search and it turns out that "The Eighties" special is actually on RU-vid. Just search for "NBC SPECIAL: The Eighties". Definitely going to be watching this.
If it's the special that I think you're talking about, I did see it listed at one point on the with the other related videos but didn't watch it yet. I will look it up later, though.
That Juicy Fruit commercial always reminded of two movies: Hot Dog... The Movie and Better Off Dead. I had such a huge crush on Ann Jillian especially when she was in Mr. Mom. Also, does anyone recall the name of the gum that had a liquid center? I think it was square-shaped with rounded corner. It didn't seem powerful in flavor. I remember Velamints but that wasn't gum. It had an indented center on both sides and I think Cathy Crosby did the commercials with the sleigh riding. Oh, Merry Christmas everyone!
"Chameleons" was to have been a ongoing series but the pilot was never picked up.. Directed(and created) by none other than Glen A.Larson(R.I.P) That "The Eighties" special was nothing like VH1's "I Love The.." shows..
