These commercials aired on local CBS affiliate KMST on April 9th, 1985. Thanks to my Aunt & Uncle for recording these.
1. Crisco (Yuck! I'll stick with good old fashioned butter, thanks. With Loretta Lynn)
2. Promo for "Double Dare" and "Stark" (Now imagine Billy Dee Williams hosting the game show "Double Dare" while wearing the Lando cape)
3. CBS Special Movie Bumper
4. Promo for "The CBS Evening News"
5. Promo for "Christopher Columbus"
6. CBS Station ID
7. Monterey Ford/Salinas Datsun (Get a 10 oz Silver Bar free! ZOMG)
8. Safeway WinningWay Bingo II (Clones? What's Safeway up to, I wonder?)
9. Promo for "M*A*S*H*"
10. Roman Meal Bread (Is it strange I've never heard of this brand?)
11. Pontiac Trans Am
12. Carmel Plaza (Hasn't changed much)
13. Santa Cruz Lumber Co. (Lumberjack jingle FTW)
14. Blue Cross (Scary, especially "Aunt Edna")
15. BMW 3 Series
16. Bank Of America Home Loan Centers
17. Roman Light
18. State Farm
19. Volkswagen Vanagon
20. Kilpatrick's (I can't wait to see their new recipes! The suspense is killing me!)
21. Denny's (That general looks completely insane)
22. Love Chevrolet (My Dad had a red truck bought from here affectionately known as "The Love Truck")
23. Promo for "The News At Noon"

"Bet you have a short Christmas card list!" Excellent dialogue.

Wow. It's fun identifying some of the folks in these old ads. That's Jack Dodson (Howard on "The Andy Griffith Show") as the moustachioed gent in the Denny's ad.

They didn't record JUST the commercials...most of this stuff is from movies or football games they recorded.

1:08--Wow; I remember that electronic theme music for the "CBS Evening News." I think just a few years later they switched to the first version of the current theme music. 7:54--I haven't seen a band with horns and cymbals (or any kind of live band, for that matter) when i've eaten at Denny's.

My grandpa used to always buy Roman Meal. I probably haven't eaten it since the very early 90s.

The woman at 4:42 is definitely the woman who played poker with coupons at the table with the others in the movie Mr. Mom.

Hoyt Axton voicing the Roman Meal commercial at 2:37. Well, the voicing starts at 2:55.

Wow, I seriously want that Vanagon. Sexy. It is kind of strange that you haven't heard of Roman Meal. It's probably just a regional thing. I live and grew up in So Cal and I'm not too much older than you and since the 80's i've seen it sold at Stater Bros. which is a strictly So Cal chain. It's pretty yummy bread.

The only people with southern accents around here are car dealers. No idea why.

Do any recipes actually call for margarine? Silver is around $33 an ounce right now, so Hillbilly Car Dealer was right! Roman Meal was my mom's bread of choice. Since I don't inspect the bread box when I visit these days, I have no idea if she still buys it. Double Dare managed to last just 6 episodes. CBS apparently gave up on the title after that, since there was a 70s game show hosted by Alex Trebek that also didn't last long. Luckily, Nick was able to have a hit with it.

0:00--I think there are actually quite a few recipes that call for margarine! A lot of prepackaged dinner kits and dessert mixes do as well. 0:30--I remember the Nickelodeon version of "Double Dare." That is the one I usually think of when that title is mentioned. I haven't had cable since I've been living on my own (1996), but my family had it in the mid-80's because at that time we lived in a town far enough from the transmitters that we only got one station clearly with an antenna.
